Texas CB Quandre Diggs Named Freshman All-America
Texas freshman cornerback Quandre Diggs capped off an enormously productive first season on the 40 Acres when he was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America on Monday.
The younger brother of longtime San Diego Charger cornerback Quentin Jammer, the Angleton native parlayed those bloodlines and hard work into a team-leading four interceptions on the season and emerged late as the best punt returner for the Longhorns, highlighted by an 81-yard return against Texas A&M that helped change the game and turn momentum against the Aggies.
Known as Quandre the Giant to his teammates, Diggs proved wrong any doubters who considered him undersized at 5-9 by recording 49 tackles, three tackles for loss, 15 passes broken up, and two forced fumbles in addition to those four interceptions.

It's still crazy
to think that we almost didn’t get him.
Congrats on your well-deserved recognition Quandre!
Had to keep myself
from mentioning that. Still boggles the mind. Thank goodness for the Major stepping up and repping for his boy.

Diggs deserves this. He was lights-out all-season.
How close did Jax come to making this team? I wonder if he was just a strained knee away.
Didn't see who the receivers were,
but have to think that Shipley would have been under strong consideration without the injury.

Seems like all the way back to Ricky's 1st year in Austin ...
… UT seems to have always had a freshman on this list. Would be interesting to see ’em year-by-year.
9 in 11 years.
Not sure of the names off the top of my head.

Love the Giant!!
I will change my legal name to "I. M. Harsin" if Texas scores on a Statue of Liberty or Hook-and-Ladder vs. OU."

Congrats, QD
Just got it in under the wire. He’ll be a sophomore next week (since he was an early enrollee last January).
I wish they’d do these things in two parts, though — a RS freshman and a TRUE frosh, as Diggs was, are very different.
'Tis a good point.
RS freshman need to have a “Newcomer All-American” team.
Congrats to Diggs
This kid works his tail off and deserves everything he gets. I can see him stepping up as the leader of the D next year along with Kenny V.
DBU!

Can u shoot me an email please. I have a question about your longhorn memorabilia.
THanks!
I am not sorry LSU!
UT = DBU.
And I really hope the attitude is fierce this off-season in the Defensive backfield, because if these kids do not get complacent, it has a chance to be a very special group.
Byndom and Diggs as the corners. Vaccaro and Phillips as the nickel corner/safety combo,
And the other safety spot when we go nickel comes down to a battle between Evans and M. Thompson.
Depth with Josh Turner (who I think will be the best DB in the Big 12 next year that doesn’t play) and LeRoy Scott.
This should be among the best backfields in the country, and to be that good and that young at the same time is just sick!

ASJ made the list. Wonder what this last season would have been like him. All we had to say was he would have been a TE and he was on board.
He featured prominently in their offensive explosion against Baylor
He’s going to be a key component in their offense the next two (three if they’re lucky) seasons. One that got away…
