The 4 Dudes 30-second mid-season reaction from 2010 seems awfully apropos today, so we run it in partial jest.
That said, the Dudes and I are awfully patient Texas football fan. And we like to keep it all in perspective. Life is complex and there are many things more important than football. But games do carry a lot of influence over fans state-of-mind, for better or worse, and when a program spends the kind of money Texas does on football, it has to be prepared for constant-selfjustification. Mack Brown has done a great deal to restore pride and excitement to Texas football, something we should all be grateful for. But not turning the team over to Will Muschamp after the 2009 season is proving to be a fateful mistake. It if was calculated to but a little more shine on Mack's legacy, that has failed badly. That is sad. And it reveals that without a rare VY, or McCoy, or Cosby, or Shipley to motivate their teammates, Texas appears short on leadership for the most critical games. And we all know what that means.
