Standing Firm In the Saddle - Thursday is for Wheemers

During the last few minutes of the KU game Wheemers predicted correctly a Case McCoy final drive for the win ending with a TD pass. I promised publicly the BON that I would indeed post a FanPost lauding myself publicly.

Here is the result, written last night and now pasted into the FanPost setting of BON.

I stand firm in the saddle. Some of you are probably thinking that there is something wrong with that picture - it is better to sit in the saddle. Essentially you are wrong about this, because when I grew up riding the people who broke into the Gardens of life have reacted to themselves again wrongly. You've got RICEFAN out there acting like he's all that. You've got Gary Patterson reaching for the stars but coming up empty with a handful of coke. You've got Bill Snyder whipping everybody with low rated recruits who prove that discipline, heart, energy, and togetherness make up for talent - but that you can get the talent in small doses and maximize it.

Don't think everybody understands yet just how good Kevin Sumlin is going to be at A&M. We are going to have to really work to match this thing, because Tech is gonna be waiting for us and Wheemers predicts a 30 point blowout with us on the losing margins. Tonight I had a bit of pineapple upside down cake. It was good, while I was eating it and sipping a bit of tea alongside said pineapple upside down cake. I said to myself (Wheemers), "Wheemers, what are you doing in this situation? Why do you care about the University of Texas Longhorns so much? You have friends and family at A&M. You have Baylor alums for parents; you have a parent who got a graduate degree from TCU, you have other family who went to SMU. You didn't even go to college in Texas - you went out of state (Virginia and Massachusetts). Why do you care so much? Why did you start being a Longhorn fan at such a young age when all your family around you cheered for A&M every Thanksgiving? Now that Texas is on a decline do you really want to go back to your early years of fandom when Texas had to rush the field for beating #3 Houston because it was such a shockingly rare occurrence?" Wheemers (myself) says back to me, "Because at the end of the day all the other schools have their thing that they do and that they are known for. But TEXAS is for every TEXAN everywhere. You don't have to be an alum. You just have to truly have the Longhorn love." So when I put my head down on my pillow tonight many time zones removed from the steam air, and fragrant sounds of God's country, I will say to myself again, "Wheemers you are a Longhorn wherever you may roam, and someday, yep someday you will have the privilege of being that wonderful thing - a season ticket holder at DKR."

It's the people like us that Mack Brown is letting down. In short, he is letting down Texas and her sons and daughters. It's time to dispense with him, and bring in a real person worthy of the Longhorn Stampede.

Here's the shortlist in no particular order - feel free to rearrange as you like. I'm not taking poll, and I don't care about y'alls opinions. Wheemers is always right - just like the customer.

1. Kevin Sumlin - what a coup against the Aggies. Would be really funny too.

2. June Jones - productive choice.

3. Mike Leach - fun choice.

4. Major Applewhite - nuff said.

5. James Franklin - Charismatic guy who did it at Vandy.

6. Ken Niumatalolo - Disciplined, aggressive, young coach who would do it with class.

One more thing.....I hope Texas wins out, and then gets the MNC next year. If we put Case in I predict that to happen. Either way, Mack Brown has earned one more year, but I don't care if we win it all next year - he still needs to go. It's time for him to become a legacy. Next year should be his transition, farewell tour - move to AD, and let Dodds go to the ranch.

Bury Me With My Boots On,

Wheemers

P.S. Do all y'all guys and gals think that I should start giving mine own self the nickname, "Wheems"??
