Fixing Longhorn Football

The great Darrell Royal was a smart and classy guy who knew when it was time to hang ‘em up. None of the above is true for Mr. Two-Conference-Titles-Brown. He will milk this for all he can. Partly because he is greedy, partly because he is out of touch with reality.

Reality hit most of us smack dab in the face when OU embarrassed us this year. Actually they did not embarrass us, they humiliated us.

But, like blowing out a birthday candle, we do not need to overthink this. The solution is simple. The transition will be flawless. Of course Bill Powers will have to grow a pair but, with the backing of key big-money alumni, I think he will.

First he needs to ask for a letter of resignation from all the current football staff including Brown - but not Applewhite. He then makes Applewhite head coach and tells him to decide which letters to tear up, if any. Diaz, Harsin and the line coaches have under performed so I am guessing Applewhite will let go most of the staff and bring in his own people.

There is so much dead wood in Belmont football - Madden and others - it will free up a ton of money for new coaches.

Personally I would like to see Dodds retire but we need him for a couple of more years to ease

the transition.

As if we need any additional motivation to make this change we need only look at what is going on in College Station. The recruiting wars are tilting strongly to TAMU, and they are the preeminent program in the state at the present time.

Sometimes complex problems have simple solutions and this is one of those times.
