Major Applewhite officially named Texas playcaller

Brendan Maloney-US PRESSWIRE

In what was mostly a formality, the Longhorns announced that the former Texas quarterback will now be calling plays.

As former Texas Longhorns co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin was being announced as the next Arkansas State head coach, the school made the promotion of Major Applewhite official:

Also as expected, Applewhite will take over the job of coaching the quarterbacks, which was previously held by Harsin. And instead of moving Bruce Chambers back to running backs coach, head coach Mack Brown has opted to instead go after a new coach to handle the tutoring of the running backs.

The move also shook up a few other titles on the staff -- with Wyatt now the co-offensive coordinator, he is no longer the co-recruiting coordinator, with Chambers taking over that role completely. Meanwhile, offensive line coach Stacy Searels is now the assistant head coach.

New titles for everyone!

However, there is no word yet on whether or not the coaches all received trophies.
