Texas 12 seed in latest ESPN Bracketology projections
Following a week that included a win on the road over Texas A&M and a comeback victory against Kansas State, the Longhorns moved up to a 12 seed in ESPN's Bracketology projections.
So, is that projection too high, too low, or just right?

We went from a bubble team to a 12 seed that fast?
I mean, I’ll take it, but color me surprised.
Oh. Aggies, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now.

Thinking it over a bit...
…perhaps a 12 seed is still a bubble team. Still surprised though that there are 16 teams deemed <= than Texas yet still making the dance.

Seeds
Well, most of the seeds below 12 will be mid-major conference winners, not at-large teams like Texas. And I’m curious what happens with the 4 play-in teams. I always thought it should be major conference bubble teams, but I guess it is a mix.
It should be bubble teams imo
It would suck to win your conference but still have to do the play-in game.
the first four is...
the worst four at large teams play against each other for two 12 seeds (or around that depending on how the bracket plays out) and the four conference winners from the worst one bid conferences playing against each other for the last two 16 seeds

Yes, historically 12 has been about the lowest seed for at large teams
Most of the 13-16 seeds go to automatic qualifiers for teams from the minor conferences, like the Patriot league.

Ah gotcha that somehow slipped my mind (i.e. I didn't know that!)
Nor was I aware of a Patriot League, and Colgate University is right in my backyard (nor was I aware of Colgate as anything but a toothpaste until I moved up North; turns out I’m a pretty ignorant Texan).
I recall you mentioning that KenPom really liked Texas at one point this season not long ago, maybe a 12 seed is actually about right then, especially given the way we’ve been playing lately.

Kenpom, Patriot league, etc...
Kenpom still likes the Horns. Has had them at the fringe the top 20 for some time. Texas could win some more games and bump that seed up past 12. Keep end mind that guys like Lunardi aren’t projecting the rest of the season. Bracketology takes sort of an “if the season stopped right now,” look.
As for the Patriot league: If you want to learn more about it, you should read the book titled The Last Amateurs by John Feinstein. At the time of that book, I don’t think the Patriot league was allowed to offer scholarships, but I think that has now changed, making the teams a bit better. I also like that book for personal reasons; I grew up playing ball against many of the players described in the book either in high school or on the upstate/western New York AAU circuit.

I like the match ups we have
Playing a 5 seed Gonzaga team in the first round and then (if we win) a 4 seed Wisconsin team in the second round? Two very winnable games.

Not saying we make a final four run or anything, but I think we have a shot to win a couple of games.

Not shot at a final 4 run
UK and Ohio State in the region?!?!?!?! Brutal!
With that being said, we would be a dangerous 12 seed and quite possibly the 12 seed to upset a 5. If Chappy and Wangmene can play really well together we can win that game and it wouldn’t even necessarily be an upset. Though I think we lost to the Zags in a scrimmage during the preseason.
I think 12 is perfect for us, but we could work our way up to a 10 seed. Though 12 might be the best scenario, as if we can get by the 5 its only a 4 or 13 waiting. As opposed to a 2. Even though, with the way we played KU, Baylor and Mizzou we could give a 2 ( not Ohio State) a run for its money

We were saying the same thing!
I don’t think we are going anywhere near the final 4 haha…

Hey, anything can happen
That’s why we watch. And if Wingman keeps playing like he did against KSU and Chappy keeps playing like he did against ISU and J’Covan keeps on keeping on, then maybe just maybe …

I don't really want to play Wisconsin.
It is always sort of like getting a root canal. Also, the advanced metric systems love them. Kenpom has them as the #5 team in all of college basketball!

SRS has them at #8
and SRS doesn’t adjust for tempo. Wisconsin plays at such a slow pace, and they always will look better when you adjust for tempo.
If Texas plays Wisconsin, it will be the battle of teams that the AP poll grossly underrates. Texas still isn’t even getting votes in the poll. Seriously, given how they are playing right now it is hard to argue that they aren’t one of the 25 best teams in the NCAA. Even if they are still outside the top 25 in the poll, someone should be giving them votes.
This is why no one should pay attention to the AP poll. The voters don’t really keep very good tabs on what is going on.

I love the fact
That in aggys last year in the big 12, they aren’t even going to make the tourny!

Accurate, for now...
I agree with a 12 for now, but if we can knock off Baylor at home and make a decent Big XII tournament run I could see us becoming an 8/9 seed.

Too high
I have grown increasingly pessimistic about Texas basketball. 12 seed seems too high and regardless of seed I cannot see the Horns getting to the second round.
I understand the pessimism
There wasn’t much expected from this team during a “rebuilding” year. Losing a lot of games they easily could have won doesn’t help either. But a 12 seed (or possibly even higher depending on how the rest of the season plays out) would be well earned after the brutal stretch of games this team went through to start conference play. They’ve gained some valuable experience along the way. And I like to think that a 5-seed would rather not play Texas in the first round.
I don't get
How one can be increasingly pessimistic. The last 2 seasons have huge disappointments ,but not this season in general. Texas took 2 1 seeds ( according to lunardi) to the end of games they should’ve won. This is a rebuilding year as well. Next season will be much better. No team would want to play Texas right now, especially if we are finally getting the end game down. I think this team could do better than the past in March as now would be the time we’d typically fizz out, instead I think we are peaking at the perfect time to win a game or two in the tourney. Or at least scare a top 4 seed

"No team would want to play Texas right now"
Exactly how I feel. All of the freshman now have a lot of playing experience. When Texas defends like they did against K-State, they are not fun to play.
Still have to win some tough ones down the stretch in the conference, but I like what I see with this team.

Right
Plus, a victory or two in the tourny would feel way better than the last couple of years when we have underperformed because there is no doubt that this year we are overachieving. Well, IMO anyways.

It still would've been nice
To win in the tournament the last couple seasons though, don’t get me wrong. I was so incredibly frustrated when we didn’t.

As long as we keep the streak alive...
I could couldn’t careless ;)

+1
March Madness is my fav sporting event of the year… To miss it would hurt pretty bad
+1 for "couldn't"
Pet peeve.
And I agree. Just keep the streak going. Barnes getting this group to the tourny would be pretty dang impressive.
No more LHN to deal with?
The official schedule lists the rest of the games on either an ESPN station or the Big 12 Network.

I don't think so
That will give them 2 wins over KU and Mizzou. And one less loss over the course of conference play. Our best bet is to finish 5th in the regular season and beat ISU, and hopefully beat baylor at home. Right now
ISU beat KU
Kstate beat Mizzou
Their top wins crush ours. Kstate winning will only hurt us
"There's more to it than just winning games" - Rick Barnes
We need KState and IowaState to keep losing
We can pass Kstate and Iowa State. Finishing 4th will put us firmly in the tournament
The 12 seed is appropriate
We’re off the bubble for now, but we need to keep winning. The team is a double digit seed unless we win the big 12 tournament.
hopefully...
we can be that 12 seed that makes a run (seemingly every tourney)…i know this, whoever that 5 seed is will have a game on their hands…hook em
