Recruiting any Indication of Things to Come for Big XII Defectors?

I was checking out Scout.com to see how Nebraska did in recruiting in its first full year out of the Big XII and without the strong Texas pipeline. It doesn't look to good for them in my opinion. Nebraska went from having the 2nd best class in the Big Ten for 2011 (19th nationally thanks in part to Aaron Green from Madison HS) to having the 7th best class in the Big Ten for 2012 and being ranked 50th nationally.

When I started comparing A&M and Mizzou, who had relatively good recruiting classes for 2012, I realized that things don't look to good for them either if you put any stock in recruiting predicting future success. I used Scout.com because I their format the best and it is user friendly.

The ags already have like 14 junior commits for 2013. So recruiting is already doing well for the Aggies next year. So your theory isn’t right

irrelevant.

it matters how many actually sign, not how many recruits will “commit” to using ATM as a placeholder. somewhere between 4-8 of these won’t make it to signing day. believe that

True but it does give you an idea that 2013 class will be good because of the hard recruiting
Texas only has like6 commits and that’s commits not signees. So ags are doing much better than Texas right now for 2013 recruiting

You have obviously never taken statistics

As this statement indicates that you have no idea what quantifiable data is.

This is a perfect example of the difference between our two fanbases.

The Texas posters are being thoughtful in their analysis and giving reasons that stem beyond what the raw data suggest at a very early point in the process, including CoachEtch’s dabble into statistics in his point (albeit a bit condescendingly, but we’re Longhorns, what do you expect?). Our friend from College Station takes the “We have more now. Suck it” approach and calls the Longhorn a "dousche (sic). Figures.

One conference to rule them all. One conference to bore them.
One conference to annoy them all, and have ESPN whore them.

There is something so wrong

about cussing someone with a bunch of typos and misspelled words. Poor aggie, that SEC education already catching them.

They have 13 commits and a total of 13 stars in total. Texas has 6 commits and 22 stars in total. Just sayin’.

I’m not sure what Aggies are doing with the 13 early commits, but they may be practicing the $EC oversigning and trap door techniques.

Recruiting classes aren't official until signing day

Anyone who says otherwise knows absolutely nothing about recruiting. Plus comparing your class this year to ours makes no sense. We have limited scholarships this year and will have a smaller class. This is why you see the slow plays on our part. No room for misses. However, even if aggie finishes with a larger class, it does NOT mean it will be ranked higher…circa last year, FSU finished #2 while we were #3 despite having more signees. To say a theory isn’t right without actually allowing the process to play out is fitting since you’re an aggie. Win 8 or more in the SEC and we will talk…if not, have fun being a sure W for other teams on their calenders every year.

Not only are ags 8th in SEC!

but 5th in SEC! west & basically in a tie with Arkansa for that spot. For 2013 class Sumlin & staff are doing very well however. It will be interesting to follow the ags recruiting. Right now they’re selling blue skies but if they don’t win the “playing in the best division of the best conference” becomes “cannon fodder for the best teams”. Personally I think the difference in 2013 vs 2012 is more about the new staff than the SEC!. They have all their chips on the table.

by ole tnhorn on Feb 22, 2012 7:28 AM CST reply actions

Oh and by the way

Nebraska, Colorado and Missouri surrendered ties to Texas, The aggies did not. The first three are forced to build a new base.

by ole tnhorn on Feb 22, 2012 7:35 AM CST reply actions

I don't think Missouri's ever really been a force in recruiting

Like Oklahoma State now and Tech under Leach, they were a scheme-driven team that did the best they could in recruiting, but ultimately needed to find ways to overcome talent deficiencies. Granted, the talent levels gradually improved at various points, which is why OSU was in the BCS championship picture this year, Tech was in conference contention in the Harrell/Crabtree years, and Missouri was relevant at various points with Daniel or Gabbert, but scheme was their key to winning. Better talent just meant better execution of those schemes.

My point

was that Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri, while members of the Big 12, could more easily recruit Texas high school players because they would play games in the state of Texas that family and friends could afforably attend. Missouri lost some 2012 verbal commit Texas kids after they announced their move to the SEC! As I recall the number of Texas kids signing with Missouri was significantly less than past years. An article on their blog discussed the need to relace Texas recruits with kids from Atlanta & other SEC! geography.

Colorado actually improved a bit

and probably has more appeal to Pac 10 markets than Texas.

It's too soon to make any conclusions

Remember that when Aggie and Mizzou began recruiting their 2012 class they were still in be Big 12. Let’s check back next year to see how things shake out. And let’s give Aggie their due, they pulled in a bunch of 2013 commits of late. That’s probably as much to do with a new, energized coaching staff as it does the SEC move.

placeholders...

when the wins don’t come, they will start losing some recruits

by STLaw on Feb 22, 2012 10:31 AM CST up reply actions

This year they will have the "new coaches, new system, new conference" excuses

Which to some extent are legitimate (although I think they’d have been bad in either conference this year with the players they lost). The real question will be how many recruits are willing to buy into the excuses while the play on the field and W/L record is poor.

In the meantime, look for other schools (Big 12 and SEC) to be negatively recruiting against them and pointing out that Bama and LSU (and to a lesser extent Auburn, Arkansas and Georgia) aren’t going anywhere for awhile.

by Horncasting on Feb 22, 2012 11:06 AM CST up reply actions

Two thoughts

1) It does us no harm for these kids — most of them at least — to keep their commitments to A&M. Let me remind the court, we don’t play the Aggies any more. Do I wish them ill? Yes I do. But…

2) Every recruit that other SEC schools poach from the Aggies is another inroad for those programs into the state of Texas. And that’s a bad thing. I don’t buy into the “UT is afraid of the SEC” BS that’s floating around — but I do think the staff doesn’t like the way the SEC plays the recruiting game and wants to keep things the way they’ve been in Texas.

Am I wrong on this?

Completely correct

A&M gave $EC a clean path to Texas recruits. Why do you think $EC took them? It is the only reason. The move really helps LSU and ARK the most.

The aggies are too stupid to know what they did. They think if they hurt Texas it helps them because they only focus on one thing, Austin, Texas.

Big XII teams will not encourage them at all. They and SEC teams will get NO new games scheduled with TCU, Baylor, Tech or Texas. We will ice Aggies and $EC out of our state. It is war now. Aggies are persona non gratis. They will have to play UH, Ric or SMU, and I won’t be surprised if Big XII teams don’t match up with those schools to really ice out the ags and $EC (and I’m not just talking football). The Baylor women’s basketball coach said she will never play them again except in a tournament. They really “shit in the punchbowl”.

We're Texas, We're not OK.

Well said, Wrangler!!

A&M either didn’t care or had to engage their pathological inferiority complex demons against big brother in deciding to let the SEC hoard through the front (recruiting) door of Texas.

Pathetic and self destructive are the only appropriate adjectives for such a stupid move…but our delusional A&M boys still think they got invited to the SEC Ho-down (sic) dance because of how pretty they look.

Just trying to get us off this ball of rock...

I guess you might want to lay for Nebraska if you grew up hearing about their Black Shirts and whatnot

But honestly, I don’t know why anyone would want to play for them in 2012. I mean, the idea of living in Nebraska, then playing for that psycho of a coach… BRRR.

Because we're Texas and we're evil. DUH.

About A&M and Missouri....but especially A&M:
When I started comparing A&M and Mizzou, who had relatively good recruiting classes for 2012, I realized that things don’t look to good for them either if you put any stock in recruiting predicting future success.

If A&M remained in the Big X!!, their 20th ranked recruiting class would be good for 3rd in that conference. So even though they would likely fare better in the BigX!! than in the SEC!, would that same ranking translate into a BigX!! championship? Maybe, but probably not.

Basically, they haven’t won football championships in the Big X!!, and they probably won’t in the SEC in the near future, but taking a few extra losses in the SEC now along with more national exposure will be worth it to them and Missouri in the long run.
