Calvin Howell left team following 1/29 POM arrest

The surprising departure of sophomore defensive tackle Calvin Howell from Texas following what appeared to be a breakout season may finally have a cause -- a January 29th arrest in San Marcos for possession less than two ounces of marijuana. Mack Brown and the Longhorn program have declined to specify the reason or reasons for Howell's exit, but this doesn't exactly seem like a coincidence, does it? If the arrest was the cause, it's a disappointing way to derail a promising career, but at this point, moralizing doesn't do much good, so it's probably best just to wish the young man good luck in the future and hope that he gets a second chance somewhere and can take advantage of it.
