WVU, Big East Near Resolution
From the article:
"West Virginia is close to reaching a settlement with the Big East.
The Mountaineers will pay the conference an $11 million cash settlement to join the Big 12 for the upcoming football season, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The settlement is expected to bring to an end more than three months of litigation between the school and the conference since the Mountaineers announced in late October that it planned to join the Big 12 in time for the 2012 football season."

I've been reading that WVU would be here for sure, but nice to see it'll be a done deal so we can see an official schedule!
Everything I’ve read has both TCU and WVU in Austin in 2012. Sweet…..
On Twitter @bilski2000
Makes the most sense
Since A&M and Mizzou would have both been in Austin this year.
Having them fill in the A&M and Mizzou schedules would keep from having to change the existing schedules for every other Big 12 team.
So... are A&M and Mizzou paying for WVU's exit fees?
With all of the money needed to refurbish Kyle, do the Ags have dough to pony-up for their SEC exodus?
I just hope the Big 12 plays a harder line on aggie and Mizzou
The Big 12’s media contracts are much bigger, and therefore involve larger potential damages, I should think. Colorado had to pay $6.86M and Nebraska $9.25M, but that was what Beebe negotiated with them when instructed to avoid a court case.
he amounts were based on projected revenue each school would’ve collected for 2010-11 had they stayed. However, the penalties were substantially less than they could’ve been because both Colorado and Nebraska challenged whether they legally had to pay an exit fee.
Collectively, the Big 12 “thought it would be closer to $30 (million), and they thought zero,” said commissioner Dan Beebe.
Beebe said there aren’t any plans, as yet, as to how to divide the $16.11 million between the 10 remaining schools. He said that would be decided next month.
What ultimately happened was aggie saw a lot of dollar signs that kept them around an extra year to get their disproportionate share of that $16.11M. They did, but then left. I would think the Big 12 could emphasize that and force a much larger payment than what Nebraska had to pay.

This has been covered
so much on this blog and others, but the Big 12 bylaws are a steaming pile of crap. The odds are that the Aggie and Mizzou payouts will be almost identical to the Nebraska and Colorado payouts (as a percentage of contractual obligation, so about 12 million or so). Heck, West Virginia is breaking a contract that doesn’t even have a PROVISION for leaving early, and they’re only paying $11-16 million.
For a decent write up on it check out

This is because the Big 12 bylaws state that

I can't believe we're really going to be playing WVU every year.
It’s almost too good to be true. I’ve always liked WVU. They’re a strong competitor with a crazy fan base. They’re going to be tough to beat. But if we get WVU and TCU at home, that’s going to be extremely favorable to us; especially with our cupcake non-conference schedule this season. Still, it’s hard for me to say we’re going to be favored in either of those games. Both have much better quarterbacks than we do.

Favorable for next season, but obviously tougher in '13 when we face both on the road!

Dear UT Athletic Department...
…someone hasn’t received the memo yet that there are a couple of schools still listed on our future schedules which shouldn’t be there anymore.

No one
is going undefeated in this conference in 2012. For years, when the SWC was competitive, no 2 loss team won the title. In 2012, 7-2 may be as good as it gets for the best teams in this conference, including the ’Horns. Does OU travel to Morgantown?
WV up there will be a very tough one every time. Maybe we should get a neutral site deal.
I guess Dallas is out…
I think OU plays both TCU and WVU at their place.
After seeing WVU put up points on LSU this year it is a concern, but it’s not like the Big 12 hasn’t seen the Holgo spread offense before. A win up there would be a very good win.
TCU
has a history of doing OK at that sardine box in Norman, so we will see.
by 40A on Feb 9, 2012 4:37 PM CST up reply actions
I wasn't discounting TCU
Before the disaster that was TTU in Norman last year that ended the home winning streak, I think it was TCU who was the last to win in Norman. Oh…sardine box…nice one 40A
Yeah it was,
which is why I brought them up. I was actually at that game, and have been to a couple others at Owen. It’s terrible. Tradition is fun but there’s just no room for that many people.
Lets Be Real...
WVU is going to be in the big12 next season along with TCU…Both of those teams scare the hell out of me honestly. TCU HAS a QB with an always solid defense. They can run the ball on anyone with their spread running attack. And the worst part is, you can say the exact same thing about WVU. They have been the elite school in the Big East year-in and year-out. Now they can recruit in Texas. Listen, Were Texas. We shouldn’t be “scared” of anyone, and honestly, Im not. But the Big12 just got a helluva lot better guys. TCU is much better than the Aggies, and with that stadium taking shape there, they can only get better. WVU is in a similar situation, in that they will now only recruit better athletes….TCU/WVU is way better that Aggie/Missou.
I see your point, but you still make me laugh
Both of those teams scare the hell out of me honestly.
We shouldn’t be "scared" of anyone, and honestly, Im not.
Which is it?
hahaha...
thats me GoHorns…one minute im nervous, the next I’m feel in confident…oh how i miss the VY/Colt days when i was just blind with cockiness
Did anyone see this report about comments by Dodds?
http://lufkindailynews.com/news/local/article_c7f11fa0-4eeb-11e1-9dcf-0019bb2963f4.html
The most interesting part for me is the following:
“There was talk of Oklahoma and Texas going to the PAC-12 last year, but Dodds said that if UT ever had to change conferences, the school would look east, not west, for its new home.”
WVU AND TCU are going to find.....
….lit’s a helluva lot different in the Big XII than the MWC and The Big East. I mean, come on, Cincinnati and UNLV? Yeah, right! They’ll be looking at K-State and Okie Lite instead – and every week as well.
"Statistics are for losers, I like winning games!" Will Muschamp
Point taken, but Utah, BYU, and BSU weren't exactly creampuffs
I don’t think anyone at TCU harbors the illusion that the Big XII will be the same as the MWC. Patterson knows what they are in for, and he isn’t one who allows for complacency. On the flip side, any team that expects TCU to fail in the Big XII because they were in the MWC does so at their own peril.
I think the team will be ready, but depth – particularly on the O Line – will be a key challenge. Regardless, it will be great to see UT and TCU on the same field again.
Not to worry,
there are plenty here who view TCU as an upgrade from A&M, which means that we expect some in-state defeats in our near future. I suspect TCU will adjust as necessary.
We're not nearly as annoying as A&M
So if nothing else, that’s a key upgrade right there.

I agree that the B12 just got a lot better
One good thing is we dont catch either at the first part of conference play. Hopefully both will be a little beat up by the time they get to UT. I expect both schools to get up to speed real quick but next year will be the first time through and could be tough. My opinon is that going to WVU is going to be a bear for the members of the B12
"When I came off the mound the hairs were standing up on my arm. I know there's not much"
/Holland.
The coaching and the front line skill players are on a par with the teams of the Big 12
The problem will be depth. This is really what hurt UT last year – our skill position players had no decent back ups on offense. And neither of our QB’s should have been playing at all – both should have shirted.
If TCU adn WVU can stay healthy, they will be more than competitive, but health is key here.
TCU is a huge upgrade over aggy and there is no comparison between Misery and WVU. I don’t klnow how long TCU will remain in UT’s Thanksgtiving slot, however. I think ND will eventually take this one from them.
"Statistics are for losers, I like winning games!" Will Muschamp
Agreed.
We will see how TCU and WVU will fare playing in the gauntlet. As we learned last year, there are no easy games in the Big 12 and it just got tougher.

and I promise we’re not NEARLY as stuck up as Mizzou fans. ;)

And I agree. The WVU fans are light years ahead of tAMU and Misery fans.
Both of the aforementioned teams are historical whiners and complainers and WVU appears to be populated with actual grownups!
While I am at it – tell me where some good golf courses are at Morgtantown – never been there before.

Well
Gotta be honest, WVU fans have a sense of entitlement that can’t be denied. We got used to some winning ways in the Big East and there will be some growing pains getting used to the increased competition. But I think we’ll adapt just fine.
Sadly, I just picked up golf about a year ago. I didn’t play while I was in Morgantown, but I have friends that do. I’ll touch base with them and I’ll be back to let you know. :)

UT fans are pretty familiar with the term "entitlement".
As we have a “little” ourselves! This projects to a helluva rivalry it would seem.

Aggie friend story ...
I asked my Aggie friend what they were gonna do with that fight song. He said they won’t change it because they’ll be playing us soon. He thinks we’re gonna miss them so much because WVU and TCU are downgrades and that we will cave and play them on Turkey Day in the future. I just noded my head and fought the urge to burst out laughing.

Shoot
WVU may not have the history that aTm does (but what kind of history is getting dominated by UT anyway…)
TCU is definitely an upgrade to aTm in terms of competition, and WVU is at LEAST a lateral move to Missouri in terms of everything (except academics, and market.) but probably a step up in coaching in competition.

I would say more than a lateral move.
You guys are a good program, and much like the Frogs, you have been steadily consistent in that respect for at least the past 10 years. I’m excited to play some new teams … Teams that could make our existence a miserable one if we aren’t ready.

While there's undoubtedly a rivalry of some sort between UT and aggie...
…the fact remains that it’s been quite lopsided. To wit, the aggie winning percentage vs. Baylor about 1% better than the Longhorns’ record vs. aggie.
