Under offensive coordinators Major Applewhite and Bryan Harsin, they want to emphasize on the TE position this offseason they said. Beau Sandland, a monster tight end who plays at Pierce Community College was paid a visit by Texas TE Coach Bruce Chambers on monday, suprising Sandland. In an interview, Sandland said, "It was kind of out of the blue. I hadn't heard much from Texas football wise, so it really suprised me. They usually take only Texas players, and the fact that i'm a JUCO player was a double whammy against me."
Yesterday was the first contract he received from Texas. Coach Chambers came to his Monday practice to watch him lift and condition a little bit. Things are in the very early stages now, and Sandland's motion towards Texas is uncertain. "I wish I could of give him a better show, we don't usually practice on Monday's." Sandland said when asked about if he thought Chambers left happy.
Sandland is no doubt a force on the line and with the ball, though. His 6'5, 250 pound frame is perfect for the hole the Horns need to fill on the offensive side of the ball. His performance has also attracted the attention of Oklahoma, Texas Tech and California. The latest offer was last night from Rutgers University, even though it is suspected that Sandland's top interests lie with Oklahoma, Cal or Texas. While the choice to move colleges is unknown, there is no doubt we'll be seeing more of Sandland in the future.
