Winning Fixes Everything

Vince Young strolled into the right corner of the end zone on a fourth and five to seal a win versus the mighty Trojans of Southern Cal. The Longhorns capped off an incredible undefeated season and a satisfaction that hasnt been felt since the days of Darrell Royal was sweeping through our mighty state. Austin went off like a rocket and the Tower was lit orange for the first time in 35 years. Now, the coach of that Championship team has been raked over the coals in recent years due to a seemingly inept performance. Mack Brown never has been and never will be a disciplinarian or a X's and O's coach. Mack Brown is a CEO and recruiting genius that hasn't been seen before in the landscape of college football history. He has constucted a cash cow football program, pulling in a $100,000,000 sum per year, and even writes a check to the University for $25 million dollars a year. His football program alone is paying for every other sports program at the University as well as furnishing the best facilities in the entire conference. Mack Brown from 97-09 has been praised for his ability to run a program and for his ability to constantly bring in top five recruiting classes. His team meanwhile was winning and winning big. People were calling him the savior of Texas football and were willing to give him the key to the State of Texas. Now all of a sudden people are attacking this man and calling for his head. Where has he gone wrong? We still bring in top 5 recruiting classes. We still have a football program that is second to none as far as bringing in money is concerned. So why are people calling for Macks head? Because he isnt winning. Mack Brown is still doing what he has always been praised for, being a respected and classy man, recruiting, and managing. But with the football team struggling no one cares what he has or is doing currently. All the fans care about is winning, and if you arent winning they are going to turn on you 50 times faster than it takes for you to earn their support. It really is sad though that it has come to the point that fans are ripping this man who has not done anything that he hasnt been doing. A man who has always looked out for the best interests of this program and has led it to a place and heights that anyone here could think when he took over. Mack Brown has always been a manager. He managed this team to two national titles and three Big Xll titles. The same people that are ripping him now were not ripping him in 2005 for his lack of football knowledge, or his soft attitude or even about his managerial approach. Mack Brown has not changed his style at all. If anything his own success has led to his demise, because of the sky high expectations he built for himself.

Its amazing what happens when you win for a long time, you almost forget what it feels like to be human. The University of Texas and its fans were blessed with two of the best quarterbacks college football has seen. Truly once in a generation players that were a joy to watch and root for. But even those teams werent flawless, but having those two quarterbacks could make up for those flaws and provide a blanket for the weaknesses surronding the team. Only when these quarterbacks leave did it reveal the soft underbelly of the glaring flaws and weaknesses that surronded this program. But alas like anything in this world. If Tyrone Swoopes turns into the next Vince Young. No one will have a problem with Macks lack of hands on coaching, but rather will see him again as the kind, loyal man that he is. Instead of attacking him for the flaws that he has always had but were only just recently brought to light.
