I have seen a number of comments here and on Barking Carnival calling for Art Briles as our next head coach. This got me to thinking about just what is most important to The University of Texas and to us a a fan base. Most of us are disappointed in this year's results, to say the least. My concern is that too many of us are ready to throw the baby out with the bath water. And, as much as I respect Mack for what he has accomplished, I was absolutely livid with him for his support of Mike Davis after the cheap shot in Ames. That is not Texas Football. Which brings us to my point.
I have seen the scores of Baylor's games this year. While I, like most observers, am impressed with their offense, I look beyond that and see a coach that loves to run up the score on overmatched opponents. Is this what we want our school to be known for? Lache Seastrunk is an impressive running back. Considering what Oregon had to pay for his services, is there anyone who truly believes he transferred to Baylor just for the opportunity to play football in Waco?
If Art Briles is your choice for the next Head Coach at Texas, then I have to ask, why not Barry Switzer? A proven winner, as long as you don't care how he wins. Sounds a lot like Briles, with a much better resume.
Rather than hire Briles, I would much rather try to hire someone who could beat Briles. Even if they couldn't, I would prefer to have a coach that continued to give us a team we could be proud of.
