Over on Barking Carnival, winsipedia put up a nice comparison of Texas and OU overall. This is just a little summary of the series between the 2 teams that I had been thinking of posting. Most of the numbers came from the texassports site. If I have made any mistakes, I'm sure someone will be happy to point them out.
Overall series record against OU: 59-43-5, or 57.5% (I count a tie as 1/2 a win, 1/2 a loss)
Series record as of 1997: 53-34-5, or 60.3%
Mack's record: 6-9, or 40% (5-9 against Stoops)
Series record of the widely derided coach who preceded Mack: 3-2-1, or 58.3%
Worst defeat of UT by OU in series history as of 1997: 45-0 in 1956. We finished 1-9, 0-6 in conference, and lost 46-0 to TCU that year. This was the last year of Ed Price's career here. Oh, and OU was ranked #1 at the time, so possibly the worst team in Texas history lost by 45 to the top team in the country.
Worst defeats in the Mack Brown era: (I really don't have to tell you these) 63-14, 65-13, 55-17, and 63-21. So, the top two, and four of the top five defeats in this series by total point differential belong to Mack. This stat may well need to be updated in a few days.
Ever the optimist, I decided to end this post on a positive note. At Mack's current rate of success against Stoops, it would take 56 years for OU to pull even in this series. I don't know about you, but I don't expect to live that long.
