3 Years On...QB Controversy Continues (Poll)

First, I'm happy to hear that David Ash is up and throwing, which sounds like he's recovered well enough from his melon bounce to participate. No matter what happens, I'm happy for the young man that he's recovering and hopefully not sustaining lasting injury.

Yet the potential of Ash's return to the lineup revives a controversy we've toiled with for 3 years now: which quarterback is best suited to lead the Horns?

David has a more Adonis athletic presence, and has a better arm, but not a great one. The knock on McCoy, aside from his sidewinder (not to be confused with the missile) arm, is that he's so loopy in the head that he can't be counted on to not make stupid mistakes. Or is he?

According to the Stats, Ash is clearly ranked higher based on his 3 games played this season: RAT 156.3, with a 2-1 record. McCoy on the other hand has a much lower RAT of 122.3, yet a record of 5-1 when he is at the helm. Ash's victories came against New Mexico State and a then beleaguered Kansas State. Ash's wins included hostile, emotional challenges against O-Who and WVU.

Their completion percentages are nearly a dead lock: 60.9 v 59.5, favoring Ash. And, interceptions have certainly plagued McCoy moreso than Ash, 6-2, though that discrepancy seems much less of a gap when you consider games played: Ash participated in 3 games, McCoy in 9.

The one intangible that doesn't fit in the stat sheets is McCoy's Moxie. It can come at a price when the young man panics, but it seems he is panicking far less in the last 2-3 games and playing within himself. He simply seems more coachable now.

So, stats aside: given where both quarterbacks are right now, whom would you rather see under center now?
