I usually don't watch football games in their entirety unless it is a Longhorns game. Today, I decided to watch the Bama @ Auburn game to see how Malzahn might work out as HC on the Forty based on his playcalls. I was nothing short of impressed. Bama made some uncharacteristic mistakes but it is easy to see that this Auburn team is very well coached in all areas of the game.
The most impressive part of his coaching job today was that he called the only game that could beat Bama. He stuck to the run, while throwing in jet sweeps to open up the middle of the D for interior runs. Rarely was there a play called by Malzahn that wasn't within the flow of the offense or didn't have a purpose for softening the Bama D.
I don't think it would take our players long to buy into his system. It is very efficient and features some of the plays we already run. Daje, for example, would have had a huge year within Malzahn's offense. He knows how to use his weapons and is an excellent game planner/play caller. If he had been our coach the past few years there is a high probability that we would have gone to consecutive BCS bowls.
I liked Malzahn before this game. After watching him and his team beat Bama I don't think there is a better fit for our program. We need Malzahn!
