Nick Saban's agent: Texas only job Saban would consider

Dave Martin

Another chapter in the story that just won't die.

More news emerged from the Associated Press on Tuesday about the phone conversation between the agent for Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, former Texas Regent Tom Hicks, and current Regent Wallace Hall.

According to an email obtained through an FOIA request, Hicks wrote the following to his brother, current Regent Steve Hicks, in September:

Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him.

Speculating about what type of "special pressure" Saban faces is just as difficult as attempting to decipher the legitimacy of interest between Saban and Texas based on that 45-minute conversation between the three principals.

Sexton, along with virtually every other successful agent out there, has a reputation for using every amount of leverage possible to set up the best situation for his client -- that's his job.

But the comments also help explain why Hicks then went to current Texas head coach Mack Brown to broach the possibility of retiring.

The revelation from the Hicks email adds another dimension to a story that also includes reports of Saban's wife looking for houses in the Austin area.

How many more twists and turns are there to the Saban-to-Texas rumors before there is some resolution?
