Mack's kindness to my father

I will always have a warm spot in my heart for Coach Brown. A few months before my dad passed away from cancer, I contacted Mack's office and asked if he could possibly send my dad a message or note of encouragement. Dad had always been a big Longhorn supporter, but was certainly not a "Big Wig". But he was a big fan of Mack and had met him briefly many years before at some event in Amarillo.

Mack arranged to call him at the nursing home and spoke to him for about 15 minutes. It was way above and beyond what I expected and it really lifted my dad's spirits. He was already quite sick, so a call from his favorite coach was truly the best medicine. Again, my dad was just a regular person, but Mack treated him with kindness, compassion, and respect.

I'll let everyone else sort out Mack's legacy as a coach, but he really is a good and decent man.
