For the past week or so I've read about several possible candidates for the next Head Coach and to me the only ones I see even slightly interested in coming are Larry Fedora of UNC, James Frankline of Vandy and Mike Gundy of Okie St(and I pray we don't hire him). Everyone else seem to be locked in where they are. Malzahn is in the Championship, has a nice contract, and a top 10 recruiting class set for the future. Same with Jimbo Fisher. Saban is a God in Bama and is set to compete for years to come. I wanted Briles to come but thats not happening with everything going on in Waco and not even the NFL can pull Shaw from Stanford. And I know we can basically buy of them but why bother if we're gonna get shot down. So i say all that to say this. Maybe we should shift our focus from Head Coaches to Coordinators.
One I really like is Chad Morris of Clemson. Although he's an A&M grad, he's one of the best coordinators out there. He's had success everywhere he's been and he know the state of Texas. Two time state champion at Lake Travis High School. He gave Tulsa an offense ranked in the Top 15 in passing and rushing yards and a 10 win season. He also helped turn Clemson into a force in the ACC. Some call the offense "gimmicky" but its really an effective, up-tempo, run first offense that sets up the pass. And its proven to work with the right personnel. Imagine what he could with Swoopes, Gray, Bergeron, Jaxon and so on. The offense has a lot of weapons just no one to really unleash them.
Or if we want to go Defense then someone like Kirby Smart from Alabama. The man has been the mastermind been the best defense in the NCAA for 7 years. Grant it he's been able to replace draft picks with future draft picks, I don't think anyone could do it as consistently as he does. And with the potential we have on D, I'd like to think he could turn it around.
The turn around for this team may take longer than we'd like whether we get current Head Coach or a Coordinator but as long as it's the right guy the future will be bright. Thanks for reading my first post tell me what you think...
