The second NFL preseason week is in the books, and as I did last week I am bringing you all the stats and news about the former Longhorns. Again, thank you for all your nice comments on the first chapter of this series.

Earl Thomas was chosen by you as the best former Longhorn currently in the NFL. He racked up the 49% of the votes. Second place was for my favourite, RB Jamaal Charles (29%). Orakpo completed the last podium spot with 12%. The poll got a total of 164 votes. DJ Johnson (4%), Justin Blalock (2%) and Henry Melton (1%) also received votes.

  • QBs:

#13 Vince Young (Green Bay Packers): QB#4

In his second game as a Packer, Young participated in three offensive series, coming off the bench as the third QB (behind Rodgers and Graham Harrell). He started the second half. On Young’s first drive the Packers got the ball at the 29 STL yard line, and after 5 plays (1 of 3 in passes for 5 yards) and just one first down, GB scored a FG. On his second series Young failed to move the chains (1 of 2 for 4 yards), and the Packers had to punt. He went 3 for 4 on passes for a gain of 17 yards on his final drive. He also had a scramble of 7 yards, and after two first downs, his team had to punt again.

Graham Harrell didn’t do much better (5/10 for 44 yards), and 4th stringer BJ Coleman was the best Packers backup QB after completing 8 of his 13 attempts for a gain of 86 yards and one score. Starter Aaron Rodgers went 10/12 for 134 yards.

Next game: vs Seattle, Friday 23rd August (7:00 PM CT).

#2 Colt McCoy (San Francisco 49ers): QB#2

McCoy recovered in time to play the second 49ers preseason game. He hasn’t been able to confirm himself as the backup QB. He alternated series with Scott Tolzien when Kaepernick left the game. Colt completed 50% of his passes (3/6) for 35 yards. He was picked off once (Video) on an awful throw, in his first series on the field. He showed his mobility by running for 37 yards on 4 rushes. Tolzien didn’t perform any better, being the 7th round pick, and BJ Daniels was the best QB for the 49ers, in their win over Kansas City, with (6/9, 72 yards and 1 TD).

Next game: vs Minnesota, Sunday 25th (7:00 PM CT).

  • RBs:

#25 Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs): RB#1

The star RB for the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t play in their loss against Colt McCoy’s 49ers. He strained his foot last week in practice and the Chiefs Andy Reid doesn’t want to take any risks with him. The X-ray results were negative and his status is day-to-day, as he said himself on the sidelines during the game. The Chiefs cannot afford to lose him.

Next game: @ Pittsburgh, Saturday 24th August (8:30 PM CT).

#34 Fozzy Whittaker (San Diego Chargers): 4th stringer & KR #3

Fozzy continues to receive a good amount of carries. In his second game in the NFL he carried the ball 9 times (tied with starter Ryan Matthews as the RB with the most carries), good for 33 yards and one TD (Video), his first as a pro. He also made a catch for 15 yards. Whittaker returned two kickoffs for 15 and 17 yards, something he needs to improve to be able to make the final roster. Danny Woodhead is still being held out for an injury allowing the Houston product to contribute as the 3rd RB, behind Matthews and Edwin Baker.

Before last week, Fozzy hadn’t played in any game since November 2011 (21 months ago), when he injured his knee during the game between the Longhons and Missouri. As you can read in this article,he is working hard and the Chargers HC, Mike McCoy, had nice words for him.

Next game: @ Arizona, Saturday 24th August (9:00 PM CT)

#25 Chris Ogbonnaya (Cleveland Browns): FB #1

Ogbonnaya did not make the starting lineup for the Browns this time, but he is still being used as FB #1, even with the presence of Owen Marecic. The new Browns staff really likes his versatility, and Ogbonnaya is always the first option when the Browns show a two RB set. He ran twice for 7 yards and made one catch for a loss of 1 yard.

Dion Lewis, one of the Browns RBs, was injured in the game and he will miss the season, something that could end with Ogbonnaya receiving more snaps as a pure tailback.

  • WRs:

#88 Marquise Goodwin (Buffalo Bills): WR2 #2 (behind TJ Graham)

The speedster who scored a TD on a 107 yard KO return in his first NFL appeareance, caught two passes for 14 yards during the Bills second preseason game vs the Vikings, in which Goodwin made the start. Goodwin was the intended target for Kevin Kolb’s pass that ended up as an INT early in the first quarter. Kolb was also the QB from whom Goodwin received his two catches. He also returned a kickoff for 26 yards.

Hopefully you have already read the latest write up about him in SBN, if not, it’s time to do it: Gridiron Olympians.

Next game: @ Washington, Saturday 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#15 Jordan Shipley (Jacksonville Jaguars): WR2 #3 (behind Justin Blackmon & Ace Sanders)

Shipley caught every pass he was thrown during last Saturday’s game against the New York Jets. His final stat says 2 catches for 20 yards (LG 16), but the truth is that he had one more catch nulified because of an offensive penalty. All his catches came in the same drive (first quarter) and were thrown by starter Blaine Gabbert. He also returned a punt for 7 yards.

Next game: vs Philadelphia, Saturday 24th August (6:30 PM CT).

  • TE:

#88 Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers): TE #1

Finley was the leading receiver during the Packers win over the Rams (19-7). He caught 4 passes for 78 yards, including a 34 yarder (Video). All of his catches came in the first quarter of the game with Rodgers as the Packers QB. He was the favourite target for Rodgers. Finley was also called for a holding penalty during the game.

Next game: vs Seattle, Friday 23rd August (7:00 PM CT).

  • OLs:

#76 Tony Hills (Buffalo Bills): LT #2

Tony Hills played on Friday against the Vikings, but he didn’t start. Before the game, Chris Brown (Bills reporter for buffalobills.com) reported that Hills was the new second LT of the team.

Next game: @ Washington, Saturday 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#61 David Snow (Buffalo Bills): OC #2

Snow participated in the second Bills preseason game. There was no positive news about him, and it now looks like Ryan Turnley is ahead of him in the OC rotation. Since Turnley is getting more and more second teams reps, Snow is running with the third unit.

Next game: @ Washington, Saturday 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#64 Kasey Studdard (Tennessee Titans): LG #3

Studdard played in the second Titans preseason game, but he didn’t start. He is a candidate to be one of the first Titans cut.

Next game: vs Atlanta, Saturday 24th August (7:00 PM CT).

#72 Jonathan Scott (Chicago Bears): LT #2

Scott didn’t play against the Chargers as a result of a strain injury. In the words of his HC, Marc Trestman, Scott, the 7th year NFL veteran hopes to return to practice this coming week. He will have an opportunity as the swing tackle.

Next game: @ Oakland, Friday 23rd August (9:00 PM CT)

#63 Justin Blalock (Atlanta Falcons): LG #1

Justin Blalock made his second start of the preseason during the Falcons loss against the Ravens.

Next game: @ Tennessee, Saturday 24th August (7:00 PM CT)

#63 Lyle Sendlein (Arizona Cardinals): C #1

Once he has recovered from his knee injury, Sendlein will be back in the starting line up. He recovered a fumble (WR Michael Floyd) during the Cardinals game vs the Cowboys (W, 12-7).

Next game: San Diego, Saturday 24th Agust (9:00 PM CT).

  • DLs:

#97 Kheeston Randall (Miami Dolphins): DT #2

During Dolphins third game of the preseaon (L, 17-24), Randall tackled Texans RB, Dennis Johnson for a loss of two yards in a 2nd down and 1. According to the Miami Dolphins SBN blog projection, The Phinsider, Randall will make the final roster as a DT backup.

Next game: Tampa Bay, Saturday, 24th August (6:30 PM CT).

#91 Cory Redding (Indianapolis Colts): LDE #1

The 11 year veteran didn’t play in the Colts second preseason game vs the Giants.

Next game: vs Cleveland, Saturday 24th August (6:00 PM CT).

#97 Roy Miller (Jacksonville Jaguars): RDT #1

In his second start as a Jaguar, Miller made the first tackle of the game. The DT is more a space-eater than a pass rusher.

Next game: vs Philadelphia, Saturday 24th August (6:30 PM CT).

#99 Lamarr Houston (Oakland Raiders): RE #1

Houston missed the second Oakland Raiders preseason game due to an undisclosed injury. The Raiders showed no pass rush against the Saints as three of their 3 DL starters missed the game. Drew Brees completed 14 of his 18 pass attempts for 202 yards and one score. The TD play (Kenny Stills) clearly shows the lack of rushing by the Raiders defense (Video).

Next game: vs Chicago, Friday 23rd August (9:00 PM CT).

#73 Brandon Moore (San Diego Chargers): LDE #3

Despite making his debut last week against the Seahawks, Moore had not yet made a tackle. That came this week during the Chargers win over the Bears. The former JUCO player recorded one total stop (2 assisted).

Next game: @ Arizona, Saturday 24th August (9:00 PM CT)

#70 Frank Okam (New York Giants): RDT #4

The six year veteran DT made one tackle vs the Colts during last Sunday’s game. Listed at 350 lbs he hopes to find a roster spot, which is hardly likely.

Next game: vs New York Jets, Saturday 24th August (6:00 PM CT).

#95 Shaun Rogers (New York Giants): RDT #2

Rogers is entering his 13th in the League. After missing the whole 2012 season, the mammoth DT is fighting with 2nd year pro Marvin Austin, who was selected in the second round of 2011 NFL Draft and is 10 years younger than Rogers, for a roster spot.

Next game: vs New York Jets, Saturday 24th August (6:00 PM CT).

#69 Henry Melton (Chicago Bears): DT #1

The 2012 Pro Bowler sat out for the Bears vs the Chargers game with a concussion.

Next game: @ Oakland, Friday 23rd August (9:00 PM CT)

#90 Brian Robison (Minnesota Vikings): LDE #1

Robison looks totally recovered from the shoulder injury he battled all through last year and made the start in the second preseason Vikings game against the Bills (L, 16-20).

Next game: @ San Francisco, Sunday 25th August (7:00 PM CT).

  • LBs:

# 56 Derrick Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs): RILB #1

The Pro Bowler made his second start of the preseason. He recorded a tackle during his team’s loss vs the 49ers.

Next game: @ Pittsburgh, Saturday 24th August (8:30 PM CT).

#53 Emmanuel Acho (Philadelphia Eagles): ILB #3

Emmanuel Acho played his second game last Thursday as an Eagle. He recorded 4 tackles and looked good in the inside of the new Eagles 3-4 defensive formation. Casey Matthews is still out with a minor injury, so the younger Acho played more snaps than expected. He is likely to make the first cut and probably the final roster.

Next game: @ Jacksonville, Saturday 24th August (6:30 PM CT)

#55 Roddrick Muckelroy (Washington Redskins): ILB #2

Muckelroy, like the two others Redskins, didn’t play last Monday in the Redskins win over the Steelers (24-13). The 4 year veteran is out with a shoulder injury.

Next game: vs Buffalo, Saturday, 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#98 Brian Orakpo (Washington Redskins): OLB #1

The pass rusher was ruled out for Redskins game on Monday. He suffered a bruised thigh in last Thursday practice. He warmed out before the game but he was held out as a precaution. It’s supposed that he will be 100% recovered for this week of practice.

Next game: vs Buffalo, Saturday, 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#52 Keenan Robinson (Washington Redskins): IR

He is expected to miss the first 3 months of the football season.

#94 Sam Acho (Arizona Cardinals): SLB #1

Acho made the start in the second Cardinals preseason game, but he didn’t record any stat.

Next game: San Diego, Saturday 24th Agust (9:00 PM CT).

#57 Alex Okafor (Arizona Cardinals): SLB #2

The former Texas DE, now converted to an OLB, made his first NFL appearance after being sidelined last week for an ankle injury. He showed his pass rushing ability when he sacked Cowboys backup QB Alex Tanney for a loss of 5 yards during the third quarter of the game. It was his only stat for the game.

Next game: San Diego, Saturday 24th August (9:00 PM CT).

  • DBs:

#23 Aaron Williams (Buffalo Bills): SS #1

The 3 year veteran made his second start of the preseason as the Bills starter SS. He made 4 tackles (3 of them to the Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph). Williams is trying to rebound of two bad years as a CB, and he hopes the move to SS will help him. This is a worthwhile read about him.

Next game: @ Washington, Saturday 24th August (3:30 PM CT).

#23 Chykie Brown (Baltimore Ravens): RCB #2 (behind Corey Graham)

He made the start last Thursday vs the Falcons in the second Baltimore preseason game. Chykie recorded 1 tackle and 2 PBUs. He showed good coverage on Roddie White (Video), and eventually White was injured. Jimmy Smith had a bad night trying to cover Julio Jones. That could help Brown if he remains in a good shape.

Next game: vs Carolina Panthers, Thursday 22nd August (7:00 PM, CT).

#29 Michael Huff (Baltimore Ravens): FS #1

Again, Huff started the game at the Free Safety position for the Ravens. He made 3 tackles during the win over the Falcons.

Next game: vs Carolina Panthers, Thursday 22nd August (7:00 PM, CT)

#31 Curtis Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers): LCB #2

Brown returned to practice last Wednesday, after being held out for more than a week with an ankle injured. The CB made a tackle during his team loss vs the Redskins.

Next game: vs Kansas City, Saturday 24th (6:30 PM CT).

#33 Michael Griffin (Tennessee Titans): FS #1

Griffin led the Titans defense with 6.5 tackles on his team’s loss vs the Bengals (19-27).

Next game: vs Atlanta, Saturday 24th August (7:00 PM CT).

#34 Quentin Jammer (Denver Broncos): FS #3

The veteran made one tackle during the Broncos loss (40-10) vs the Seahawks. He didn’t make the start and his tackle came in the last quarter of the game. In Broncos’ beat writer Sam Farnsworth’s opinion is that Jammer will be cut before the final preseason game.

Next game: vs St Louis, Saturday, 24th August (7:00 PM CT).

#31 Aaron Ross (New York Giants): RCB #2

The two time Superbowl Champion started the game because Corey Webster was held out for an injury. He made two tackles and forced a fumble during the Giant’s loss vs the Colts. He was the protagonist of the most ridiculous play of the game when he muffed an easy intercepction on an Andrew Luck underthrown pass, the play ended with Reggie Wayne catching the ball on the End Zone for an Indianapolis TD (Video).

Next game: vs New York Jets, Saturday 24th August (6:00 PM CT).

#32 Kenny Vaccaro (New Orleans Saints): S #3

The rookie keeps making plays for the Saints. This time Vaccaro made 6 solo tackles and had a PBU. He didn’t make the starting line up, but one of his tackles came in the first Oakland Raiders offensive series. None of his tackles were made on Special Teams, which means he saw plenty of playing time .

Next game: @ Houston, Sunday 25th August (3:00 PM CT).

#25 Tarell Brown (San Francisco 49ers): RCB #1

Brown lost 2 million dollars for missing his team’s OTAs this summer. He didn’t know about the clause in his contract and immediately fired his agent. He is back with the team and has started in the two 49ers preseason games. He hasn’t recorded any stat yet.

Next game: vs Minnesota, Sunday 25th (7:00 PM CT).

#29 Earl Thomas (Seattle Seahawks): FS #1

Voted as best former Longhorn in the NFL (51%), he was once again the starting FS for the Seahawks. He had an assisted tackle on the first quarter. Thomas couldn’t stop Wes Welker on his TD when he tried to tackle the WR on the one yard line.

Next game: @ Green Bay, Friday, 23th August (7:00 PM CT).

  • STs:

#9 Justin Tucker (Baltimore Ravens): K #1

Tucker went 3/3 on his PAT attempts and did not attempt any FG.

Next game: vs Carolina Panthers, Thursday 22nd August (7:00 PM, CT).

#9 Phil Dawson (San Francisco 49ers): K #1

Dawson made all 3 FGs that he attempted (42, 55 and 55), but the Chiefs blocked his only PAT attempt in the fourth quarter. He scored 9 of the 15 points that gave his team the win over the Chiefs.

Next game: vs Minnesota, Sunday 25th (7:00 PM CT).

#46 Cullen Loeffler (Minnesota Vikings): LS #1

The Vikings long snapper played the second preseason game helping Pro Bowl kicker Blair Walsh to complete 1 of his 2 FG attempts (3/3 XPs) and German rookie punter, Jeff Locke to average (39.7 avg) on his 7 punts (LG 61).

Next game: @ San Francisco, Sunday 25th August (7:00 PM CT).

  • Bonus Track (Transfers):

#4 GJ Kinne (Philadelphia Eagles): QB #4

#85 Dan Buckner (Arizona Cardinals): WR2 #4
