Longhorn Basketball Recruiting, A Comedy of Errors

USA TODAY Sports

At least we might be good at football this year.

Texas basketball is in the news again, and not for anything remotely positive. Gary Parrish of CBS Sports recently published a column on Longhorn basketball recruiting and essentially reiterated what most of us have already come to accept. Nobody wants to play basketball at Texas.

To date there have been 21 top-40 national prospects from Texas (according to Scout.com) commit from the past seven recruiting classes, and the Longhorns have landed just one -- Cameron Ridley in 2012.

His list focuses on the "Top 40" recruits because that number makes Longhorn recruiting look even more pathetic. 2014 does not look any better, as the Longhorns are not even in contention for the state's best talent.  Last April, in a serious procrastination haze, I put together this list of ESPN's top 100 recruits from Texas. The first number is their state ranking, the second number is their national ranking.

If anybody can think of a state where the flagship sports program is more blatantly ignored by it's top players, please leave it in the comments.

And thank God it's football season.
