Oklahoma, as winners of the conference's lone game so far, climb to the top of our leaderboard. Meanwhile, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech all went Big 12 throwback and threw for 6 million yards each.

Oklahoma! West Virginia! High flying offenses in a rematch of the 1400 yard 50-49 OU win in 2012! Sadly, there was no Landry Jones to throw for 550+ yards, and no Tavon Austin to run for 340+ yards, and the new look Mountaineer and Sooner offenses struggled. Oklahoma's emphasis on the ground game continued, accumulating 316 yards on 57 carries. West Virginia QB Paul Millard struggled to put up 218 yards on 21-41 passing with an INT, and the Mountaineers were unable to lean on RBs Dreamius Smith and Charles Sims for production. OU QB Trevor Knight didn't finish the game, and is out for the upcoming Tulsa game. Blake Bell will take the reigns, and Kendall Thompson has returned to practice and will be available.
Crimson and Cream Machine with how the OU defense was able to seal a victory....
Where this game was won for Oklahoma and lost for West Virginia was on third down where the Sooners held the Mountaineers to a 3-for-13 conversion rate. Where the WVU offense experienced a limited amount of success through the game, the OU defensive players were absolute drive killers.
Smoking Musket on what WVU needs to be contenders in the Big 12...
This is a team that will be able to compete in the Big 12, but not with the way the offense performed tonight. This offense has a ways to go to be even serviceable. If WVU is to have a respectable season this year, it will be due to the defense. Now that's a sentence not many people would expect to be reading tonight.
Baylor
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | F | |
Buffalo | 13 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 13 |
Baylor | 28 | 28 | 7 | 7 | 70 |
Baylor is doing (new) Baylor things. Art Briles has set his copy of NCAA Football 2014 to Recruit difficulty and throws bombs all game long. Bryce Petty went 13-16 for 338 yards and 2 TDs, while Lache Seastrunk added 17 carries and 150 yards for 3 TDs (what a slouch). Fortunately for Baylor, they get a bye week to work out the kinks on offense this week.
Our Daily Bears is dropping big grades on the offense...
QB: A+ -- I don't know if I've ever given this grade out before, but I'm doing it now. Bryce Petty has been amazing in the short season thus far, and all he did on Saturday was post a 99.7 on ESPN's scale of 1-100. He had three incomplete passes, two of which went to the boundary and should have been caught in bounds. The other was a bit short but could still have been caught. What I'm saying is, Petty was very nearly perfect against a FBS team.
I don't know how you could look at Petty's performance this season and not be extremely excited. He's done exactly what you hope to see against inferior competition: dominated. The only negative, and it doesn't have anything to do with him, is that he hasn't gotten the reps I would have hoped to see because of the blowouts. When he's played, he's been Griffin-esque.
Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State | 14 | 21 | 7 | 14 | 56 |
UTSA | 7 | 0 | 0 | 28 | 35 |
After showing off his running ability against Mississippi State, JW Walsh went out and showed off his throwing ability against Larry Coker's upstart Roadrunners. Walsh completed his first 10 passes and finished the night 24-27 for 326 yards and 4 TDs in about 2 and half quarters of work. The running game wasn't nearly as effective, going 32 carries for 87 yards and 2 TDs.
Cowboys Ride for Free has some scattershot thoughts on the game...
For everyone getting all gaga over J.W. Walsh's passing performance...take a chill.
For everyone getting all worked up over the defense...take a chill.
The only other team that may display a worse pass defense than UTSA will come to Stillwater next week. Walsh did make some really good throws, twice had 10 completions in a row, and broke Brandon Weeden's single game completion % record.
Texas Tech
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | F | |
Stephen F. Austin | 7 | 0 | 0 | 6 | 13 |

Baker Mayfield continues to acclimate to Kliff Kingsbury's Air Raid, tossing 21-30 for 367 yards and 3 TDs, and added 9 carries for 66 yards, in about a half of work. The blowout let the Tech rush game get some work, where 9 ball carriers combined for 37 carries and 237 yards.
Viva The Matadors has game balls to distribute....
OFFENSIVE STAR OF THE GAME | TE Jace Amaro was the difference maker in this game with 8 catches for 142 yards and 1 touchdown. He just transforms the offense.
DEFENSIVE STAR OF THE GAME | Really pretty tough with such a short time period to evaluate as it didn't seem like these guys were on the field all that much. I'll give this to S Tre' Porter who finished the game with 6 solo tackles, but there were a lot of moving parts to the defense
Kansas

South Dakota | 7 | 0 | 0 | 7 | 14 |
Kansas | 0 | 14 | 7 | 10 | 31 |
Kansas played football this weekend, apparently. BYU transfer Jake Heaps (how badly would Texas have liked to play against him instead of Taysom Hill???) threw for 10-20 for 110 yards and a TD, and RB James Sims carried the load with 16 carries for 94 yards and 2 TDs.
Rock Chalk Talk with the biggest news of the weekend, regarding Kansas ending a long standing streak...
We had a wide receiver catch a touchdown!
Kansas State

Louisiana-Lafayette | 3 | 0 | 21 | 3 | 27 |
Kansas State | 10 | 10 | 27 | 7 | 48 |
Bill Snyder exacted his revenge against the Ragin Cajuns, in typical K-State fashion: Tramaine Thompson scored on a 94 kickoff return TD, safety Ty Zimmerman returned a 32 yard INT for a TD, and QBs Jake Waters and Daniel Sams split time with Waters taking passing duties and Sams getting action in the run game.
Bring on the Cats with more on the QB situation...
Let's be clear. Both quarterbacks on this team are very good in their own way. They both bring a different skill set that can move the football. The major difference between the two in this game was that of the (by my count) 70 offensive plays the Wildcats ran, Jake Waters took 58 of the snaps while Daniel Sams took only 12. Sams made his limited time count, scoring on a big 13 yard run and setting up the John Hubert touchdown that effectively shut the door on the Ragin' Cajuns.
A discerning and objective look at the game can determine that Waters had a pretty decent outing as well. He completed 71% of his passes for 278 yards. But of the 58 snaps he took, the most memorable are the interception that bounced off the hands of Torell Miller, the failed fourth down run, the under thrown interception and the three passes on the ensuing drive that were aimed at the ground. Not to mention spiking the ball with 15 seconds left in the first half and giving Louisiana-Lafayette a chance to touch the ball that should have never been.
TCU
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | F | |
SE Louisiana | 0 | 14 | 0 | 3 | 17 |
TCU | 7 | 10 | 14 | 7 | 38 |
Trevone Boykin stepped in and led the offense for TCU, notching an easy win against a Louisiana directional school. The biggest news coming out of the game is the broken forearm suffered by previous starter Casey Pachall, who had surgery to repair the left arm injury and may be out the next 8 weeks.
Frogs O' War on the offense's secret motivation...
I've got a question: why does the Horned Frog offense play so much better when it knows Devonte Fields will be in on defense? Or is something else to account for the difference in performance in the two halves of today's game? Whatever the difference, I like seeing TCU spread the ball around, and make shots downfield, and generally play like a ranked Big12 team. And if the Frogs continue to do so, I'll not mention the first half of this game. (Which was... utterly awful.)
