December 2012. Wheemers writes a FanPost, entitled, "Into a dark and lonely night." I described the decline and fall of the Longhorn Nation. The Barbarians were at the gates. The Emperor had no clothes, but so many refused to acknowledge the stark and awful truth. It was over. It was over a long time ago. It was over when Colt McCoy went down in the 1st Quarter of the National Championship Game. The dream died on a Rose Bowl field that night, and it's gotten progressively worse. That was the final high point of the Mack Brown era.
Now, we have missed our chance to move quickly. The damage will not now be repaired. The right coaches don't want to come to coach Texas now. Not after the mess we have created here. Urban Meyer is locked down, Muschamp is at Florida, the great jobs are filled, and Gary Patterson would be a fool to come here. The next guy won't fix it. It might be two or three guys down the road. Think how long it took Alabama to get from Gene Stallings to Nick Saban. It was more than a decade of mediocrity. Welcome back to the eighties ladies and gentlemen. Hallelujah Land? Not for a very, very, long time. The final indignity, is that our decline isn't even watchable, because its on a channel that no one watches or even cares about.
The Wheemers isn't always an idiot. Sometimes he's serious, and when he's serious, he's right. Texas is over. We are drowning in a sea of maroon, crimson and cream, and yes, green and gold, purple, and pretty much every other color we play. IT'S OVER. And you know who's at fault? The fans. We are entitled. We are selfish, and we are weak. We forget how special and unique it is to win college football games with consistency. We missed one of the great eras of Longhorn football. With the exception of 2005, we just complained through the whole thing. Old Greg Davis doesn't look so bad now.
Hope you enjoyed it, Longhorn fans. I know I did, and regardless of what some of you think, Mack Brown will go down as one of our great ones. The comfort is that someday, we will be back. The lows can only be so low.
Good night & Good bye. This is the FINAL WHEEMERS POST Until Texas beats OU again.
Will there be blood? There has been blood shed this season, and there will be much, much, more blood before we see 2014. No jump required.
WHEEMERS OUT FOR A LONG LONG TIME. Thank you, Peter Bean, for running one of the greatest sites on the WEB.
I LOVE ALL Y'ALL GUYS.
