Don't buy tickets

I bleed burnt orange. I've been a Longhorn since birth, and my future first-born will be wrapped in burnt orange as soon as he or she emerges from the womb. All my family went to UT. I graduated not long ago. You know my type. I always support the Horns no matter what, and usually look down my nose at the fickle T-shirt fans who tuck tail and run at the first sign of hardship within the program.

But this shit is ridiculous. Do you realize the amount of potential talent on this team that is being completely wasted? And that is true with so many teams of the Mack Brown era. I won't go into more detail because there are countless articles in the past few years explaining the flaws of the current coaches and program in general. But I do want to say that, after the 2012 OU game (which is, by far, the worst sporting event I have ever witnessed, including little league games, middle school football games, etc.) and the loss to BYU last night, I won't buy another Texas Longhorn football ticket until Mack is gone or we win a Big XII title (which won't be this year).

I'm not being mean-spirited or defeatist. I'm not abandoning my team, and I do not wish Mack Brown any ill-will. I promise, I will actually weep when Mack does leave the program. It's just that I'm not sure how to voice my frustration any other way than hitting this leadership where it hurts most: money. It may be true that Bellmont will not even notice or care if ticket / merchandise sales decline, but something has to be done by average fans to combat this bull shit complacency with horrible, horrible athletic teams. I won't give my hard-earned money to watch a product like this. To make it worse is the bureaucratic, pussy comments after the games: "Not sure what happened," "We'll have to go back and watch the tape," "We'll have to regroup, learn, and come back stronger," "We are constantly evaluating coaches performances and will continue to do so." Give me a break. We're fucking Texas. Own up to it, say we suck and there's no excuse, and if players / coaches don't produce then find others who do.

Bottom line: I support the Horns and always will. I'll watch every game. I'll root for the Horns no matter what. I'll go to the OU game because I promised myself I would go every year until I die. But, other than my Time Warner bill and OU ticket, I'm not contributing money to the UT athletic program in the form of ticket sales until Mack Brown is fired or resigns, or unless he somehow, inexplicably wins a Big XII title.

I encourage others to do the same.
