5-Star QB Commit Jerrod Heard is the Future of the Texas Longhorns

Five Star recruit Quarterback and Texas native Jerrod Heard committing to Texas will completely change and Improve the Texas offense and will most likely change the way that Texas recruits Quarterbacks. If you were able to see any of Heard's highlights on hudl.com, the first thing that will come to your mind is that Jerrod Heard is the next Russell Wilson. There is a reason he is listed as a Five Star recruit on scout.com and many other sources agree.

During his High School Career at Denton Guyer, Heard led the Guyer Wildcats to two consecutive Texas Class 4A State Championships in his Junior and Senior year. Heard had been recruited by Baylor, TCU, and Texas A&M, but ultimately chose to play for the Longhorns. Heard is the top-rated Quarterback recruit in the state of Texas, and rightfully so considering that he had lead the Denton Guyer Wildcats to two back to back Texas State Championships.

Heard likes to lead with a sense that he is calm, cool, and collected which shows his players that they don't have to worry because they know that he's got this, which is a similar trait to Joe Montana with his composure in the huddle. His best asset with his arm is his ability to throw the deep ball accurately, if you have watched his highlight tapes, you can notice his ability to find the open receiver deep and is able to extend the play with his legs. Though Heard is a great passer, what separates him from the pack is his running ability. When I first saw his highlight tapes around a month ago the first thing that I thought was, he is just like Russell Wilson.

With new Head Coach Charlie Strong, theres no telling what kind of offense Texas will run next season. What Im curious about is if the Longhorns start throwing in the Read Option now since they now have the man to run it. And Since David Ash only has one more season left with Texas, it was a smart move to go after Heard. And who knows, maybe Heard will outplay Ash in August and win the Starting Job as a Freshman if he doesn't plan to Redshirt. But one thing I do know is that Texas fans are going to be pleased with their new Face of the Longhorns.
