Big 12 Conference
With the release of the Big 12 Conference schedules on Wednesday, the picture of how the 2015 season will unfold is now more clear for the Texas Longhorns.
There's no easing into the season, either, as the Longhorns open on the road in South Bend against the Fighting Irish, a team that has now fallen out of the rankings after losses in three of the last four games. The contest will pit two of the most successful programs in college football history -- Notre Dame ranks second in all-time wins.
Texas and Notre Dame haven't played since 1996, a 27-24 loss for Texas when both teams were ranked in the top 10, and the Horns have only won two of the 10 contests played against the Fighting Irish.
The rest of the conference slate will include an extremely winnable game against Rice and an intriguing home match up against a rising California program that runs a version of the Air Raid offense.
Then it's on to the conference season against an Oklahoma State team that will be rebuilding and what could be a critical early-season tilt on the road against TCU.
That game will mark what could be the start of a season-defining stretch for the Longhorns, as they travel to the Cotton Bowl to face off against Oklahoma the next week and then host Kansas State the week after that.
The lone full bye week of the season will come before the game against the Wildcats.
The season closes with winnable games against Iowa State and Kansas before Texas ends the regular season with what should be another critical game on the road against Baylor that will mark the first trip to new McClane Stadium for the Horns.
