Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Open GameDay Thread: Texas at Nebraska

Well, it's go time, folks. As noted below, the weather is pretty nasty in Lincoln. I'm optimistically speculating that this works to our advantage, thoguh I couldd just be grasping here. I really don't know.

I do think Texas has the (slightly) better defensive line and the (significantly) better offensive line. That makes me think we'll win today, but it's no sure thing.

Texas taking its 18 game conference and 15 game road winning streak to Lincoln for a great test. Your own comments, questions, criticisms, and so forth go here.

Thats what...
we needed right off the bat!  HOOK EM!!!

Good Start
Excellent.  Too bad he didn't get to the end zone.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:15 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well
Its better than not scoring at all on the first drive.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:16 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well
We should have made a better attempt at the end zone than that.

Greg Davis
Hope this isn't a sign of things to come.  Three straight running plays.  Would have thought a fade pass to Sweed against an injury riddled secondary would have been a nice call.

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:17 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I hear that
I thought for sure they would throw it to him.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 11:18 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good stop...
Always nice to score on the first drive and hold on their first.  Hopefully Greg doesnt hold back.

Shadow of own goal post
GD's actually forced to attempt to get a few first downs.

Need to have....
Colt line up under center.  Plays are taking too long to develop.

Quan wide open
Colt needs to settle down.

Wind
Seems to be a factor, and neither team has been able to run so far. I can't watch the game, so I really can't tell.

Runing Game
I know UT has a great running game but beginning to believe they might have to rely on it more than I first thought...

Bad tackling in the UT secondary...That hurt...

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:33 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Big play
They've had a problem giving up big plays on 3rd down for quite some time.  Given the weather, that hurts.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 11:35 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Can we go for a tackle
instead of an INT???

Just ONCE??

Weather the Storm
Curious to see if UT can weather the storm of emotion in the first quarter.  No pun intended.

Can we actually get some yardage on 1st or 2nd down?

I admit I do not follow the UT game's all that much.  Living in Dallas all I heard about was Sergio Kindle.  Has he played much and if so how has he done?  Thanks.

by sportsfan on Oct 21, 2006 11:43 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We need...
to get out of the spread and run the ball right down their throat.  I could call Nebraska's Defense against the spread!  McCoy IS NOT going to keep the ball.  Tackle the running back everytime no matter what happens.

12 plays, 20 yards.  This cannot continue.

Need some quick hitting runs
The sloww developing run plays aren't particularly helpful in a game like this. You've got to hit the line quickly

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:49 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Y/A
Usually a good indicator of GD's game plan.   Why we are still throwing the ball more than we are running it is beyond me?

talking about!  Line up under center with a lead block and we have more yards on that run play than we have in all the pass plays combined

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 11:53 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How does
Colt throw so much better on the run?  Oh yeah, he can barely see over the line when he is in the pocket.

Why does
ABC insist on showcasing Colt McCoy every week.  I might be have a bias because I played Jim Ned in high school and they always kicked our asses.  Lets see something on Sweed or Charles.  I am tired of seeing the same map every week from ABC showing where Tuscola is.

Overall Great First Half
Gotta be happy with that first half. Could have been better, sure, but bounced back from that unfortunate mistake with Griffin and Beasley to dominate.

Especially pleased with Miller, Lokey, Lewis, and Crowder, who are DOMINATING this game. Just dominating.

Colt doing a really nice job of adjusting to his early mistakes; Greg doing a good job of easing him into the comfort zone.

Should be 20-7 right now (probably 20-3), but we'll take it.

by kansashornsfan on Oct 21, 2006 1:43 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If we lose
There will be 2 reasons why:
  1. Poor kicking
  2. Poor tackling on the TDs

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 1:45 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Flanker screen?  What is that? 0-5 for the game?

by PB @ BON on Oct 21, 2006 1:51 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

trying to duplicate...
the throw back that worked, but you can only do a counter thing like that once

Negative yards
on a pass play again.  When is GD gonna realize they know that play?

Another 3rd and long in the red zone.

by Jason Mayer on Oct 21, 2006 1:54 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 1:54 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Four down territory?
Hope it doesn't come to that

I did not like the play calling those last three plays.

by JohnsonUT on Oct 21, 2006 1:56 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

TD
We should get a TD from the 2 every freaking time.  That's 4 more on the lost points count.

by AMB on Oct 21, 2006 1:57 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Does anyone else want Greg Davis gone?
What is up with this play calling my little sister could call a better game this.  How many 3rd and 6+ have we thrown a bubble screen.
GO HORNS!!!!

by grimy on Oct 21, 2006 1:57 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We should have
put in a fullback and tailback on all three plays and run it right between the tackles.  GD needs to get his head out of his ass and think like a normal person.  Not someone trying to outsmart the other team with stupid play calling.

by kirk1005 on Oct 21, 2006 1:58 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

this is embarrassing. horrible play calls in the red zone. Is bill parcells calling these plays. you cant settle for fields goals on the road

Mike Griffin
Burned on the deep ball again. He's so great in run support. But good offensive coaches are exposing it.

We put ourselves in this position, though, with the shitty kicking and the lousy red zone play.
