Not even remotely worried...
about this game; very worried about next Saturday in Kansas City. Stephen Mcgee is a worse passer than Drew Tate, so Im not real worried about his ability to exploit the pass defense; run D should be solid, plus they're at home. Next week however they face an experienced, smart fairly accurate qb, good but not great receiving corps, and cold weather-a bad combination for this team. The two times this year that they've played in cold weather, they've looked like htey haven't wanted to hit, block, cover or tackle anyone.

Agree on next week
And while I'm not terribly concerned about today should Texas come out at full strength, I'm a little concerned by what happens if the team gets off to a slow start. And, of course, Colt's stinger. Is he fully healed? Both physically and psychologically?

by Peter Bean on Nov 24, 2006 10:02 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe a little premature
PB - if Texas can come out and absolutely dominate, in OK State fashion, how does that change your opinion toward next week?

And for the record, I'm at work.  I'll be incognito for the remainder of the day.  I'm recording it at home.

If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

F*cking Nevermind!

A lil bit concerned
Yeah I am a bit worried about Colt's stinger too. I dont want to rely on Okla St pulling an upset tomorrow to punch our ticket to KC. We need to take the anger and embarrassment from that horrific loss to KSU and channel it towards our enemies from the east. The offense needs to establish dominance early and our defense needs to stop the QB option since thats the only thing the Aggies do well. I am scared as hell about the game next week. Its hard to beat an opponent twice but as long as the weather is decent, they got a chance. We dont need the crap that happened in Lincoln to happen again. We need calm winds, no snow and mild temperatures to pull it out. And,as always, dont fall for the halfback pass ever again.

by kansashornsfan on Nov 24, 2006 10:39 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

we forget too easily....
You know its funny that no one seems concerned about this game just like no one was concerned about KSU. I just hope the players and coaches are taking this one seriously. They cant lay an egg twice in a row.

I'm not worried
Stephen McGee waxes his eyebrows.  Metrosexual men do not belong on the gridiron.  Most especially metrosexual AGGY men.

the real kay for next week's game...
is the weather. The d line was great in the first half at Lilncoln, but for long stretches of the second half, they were invisible. The o line was not terrible, but only marginally effective. Then in the kstate game both lines looked like a group of hibernating bears. ON weather.com  game-time temp forecast in the mid t high 30's with very low chance of precip-very much llike the conditions at k state

I am
a little worried.  In rivalry games, especially UT-TAMU, you never can tell.  Atleast Undrae Wear isnt calling the game today!

In fiction
a static character is one that never changes his behavior no matter what the plot brings.  That description fits our coaches' desire to keep giving Melton the ball.

The forward pass
As bad as our pass D is, we've got to make McGee win this game by himself with his arm.

As I speak, they let him pick up 28 on a scramble.

The only reason
we have the "#1 rush defense in country" is because nobody has bothered to run on us.  They were successful enouh passing that they didn't even try.

In the End Zone
When the ball is coming to him in the end zone he is going to push off to create space. First time I've seen him not get away with it.

by MattH on Nov 24, 2006 12:26 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He can push all he wants
before the ball is thrown and SHOULD be pushing.

Both players were fighting for the ball in the air. How do you determine who is more liable for the penalty? Aggie at one point was grabbing Sweed's throat.

It was a non-call and silly.

They missed that completion call in the 1st qtr and the refs continue lazy officiating.

As bad as that offensive PI call was, we had a false start against us the first time we were in the red zone that we ended up paying for as well.

Bad call
but still, this team is just not playing. K-St. took more out of them than they were willing to admit.  And half these guys weren't born the last time A&M beat us.  There's absolutely no intensity whatsoever.

by burntorangenance on Nov 24, 2006 12:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I can't believe
A&M was content to leave the field with a 6 point lead.  I would have thrown the ball on this secondary with 2 minutes left.  13 to 0 at the half would have been big.  Its a good thing that we're playing coach Fran instead of Stoops or Carroll.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 24, 2006 12:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Hell
We don't even look like a Top 25 team right now and we haven't since the OSU game.  I'm gonna go out and drink, it's Friday night here and it's slippin away.

by AMB on Nov 24, 2006 12:27 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

One more thing
that first half took only an hour and 20 minutes.  Wow.  This is a different game this year.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 24, 2006 12:27 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Haven't been on...
but why in the world do our coaches still have faith in Henry Melton?  I don't think anyone else that has been watching these games still does.

As soon as I saw him line up on that 4th and 1, I knew that we were doomed.

Still, only down by 6 at half, we should be OK.

by Brandon 97 on Nov 24, 2006 12:28 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'd be curious to know
the actual statistics, but has Melton actually carried the ball over the line of scrimmage in the past 6 weeks?  I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that he has no positive yards since N. Texas.  But our coaching staff has a long history of sticking with something after it hasn't worked the first 600 times.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 24, 2006 12:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

How big was Kansas State loss?
It appears the team is playing for consolation prize now that the MNC is off the table.  It will be interesting to see how they come out of the gate with legacy rights on the line.  This is where the coach earns his keep...motivating the guys.

by TXStampede on Nov 24, 2006 12:30 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

embarrased
unless we can run the ball w/ power it's going to be a struggle. W/ Colt it appears we are afraid to throw a true deep pass. I know Colt is consistent but it is always w. short to intermediate passes.

by burntorange81 on Nov 24, 2006 12:43 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe, just maybe
Maybe it isn't a massive hangover from Kansas State, and the haunting fact that they blew their title defense.

Maybe it isn't the inexplicable love affair that Greg Davis has with Henry Melton (which is actually really disgusting to think about).

Maybe it isn't that A&M is exposing a run defense that's never really been tested (seriously, what was the last team that played Texas whose primary game plan was to RUN every play and not pass against this secondary).

Maybe its not any of those things.  maybe, just maybe the guys all had a team meeting last night and decided that they just really really really don't want to play Boise St. in the Fiesta Bowl.

I don't think I'd blame them.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 24, 2006 12:47 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Defense
It is pretty quiet in DKR. It's up to the defense to get it going. This is going to be a quick game as long as atm is able to move the ball w/ success.

Second half keys
*Colt doesn't look totally comfortable yet. Not sure if it's rust or if he's still hurting a bit.

*The -contain- defense was pretty lousy, especially in the first quarter. Scott Derry, Marcus Griffin, Brian Robison, and Mike Griffin each had serious breakdowns on contain.

*Bobino's got to play better, though he improved after the first quarter.

*The running game is still just awful, and today it's a scheme problem. The running backs have no opportunity to get going.

*Red Zone offense. Obviously.

Colt
Well, one of the two picks he's got should have never happened, thanks to the refs (the Sweed "TD").  It hasn't helped that we are not running the ball well today.  Even so, he's been very average today, but not terrible, horrendous, or whatever other adjectives you have for his performance.

Cotton Bowl
It's still possible for us to get a Cotton Bowl berth, we did beat Nebraska once already.  That's up in the air though and this loss will make the bowl picture very murky.

The refs should at least kiss us
before they fuck us.

Terrible officiating, but to A&M's credit they came out inspired and Texas waiting until it was too late.

This throws the QB situation in to doubt. I think the door has just creaked open, just a hair, for Snead and others to compete.

The Big 12 has got to review this game and educate its officials (replay and field).  They can't be allowed to effect the outcome of the game like they did today.

A&M got every call today except for the obvious ones.  A phantom PI on Sweed, cost us 7 points and possibly the win.  The no call on Sweed getting his head ripped off.  Guy drilling McCoy just now in the face after the ball was gone.  Watching the linesman throughout the game A&M has gotten a hell of a lot of healthy spots.
