Big 12 pipe dream
Coming back and winning the Big12 south would be a nice end to a tumultous first half of the season. But even though several pundits and players have suggested that we're not out of it, let's not get our hopes up. Most likely, Texas will end up as the 3rd or 4th Big 12 team which means we should expect a Holiday Bowl matchup vs Oregon.
Still, here's a look at the remaining schedules for the south and what would have to happen assuming Texas wins out:
Texas: W @Iowa St, W @Baylor, W Nebraska, W @OSU, W Tech, W @A&M
Win those game, and we're 10-2, 6-2 Big 12
A&M: L @Tech, W @Nebraska, L Kansas, L @OU, L @Missouri, L UT
I expect A&M will drop 5 of these. The probably split the Nebraska/Kansas games. 3-5 big 12
Tech: W A&M, L Missouri, W CU, W @ Baylor, L @UT, L OU
4-4 Big 12
OSU: L @ Nebraska, W KSU, L UT, L Kansas, W @Baylor, L @OU
3-5 Big 12
OU: W Missouri, W @ISU, W A&M, W Baylor, W @ Tech, @ OSU
7-1 Big 12
Therefore, for Texas to miraculously win the south OU will need to drop 2 of their last 6 or really what amounts to 2 of 4 vs Missouri, Tech, A&M, & OSU. Missouri would seem to have the best shot of any of these to win one in Norman, and coming immediately after the RRS game you can't rule out a let down for OU. This is clearly unlikely though, so plan on OU capturing yet another Big12 title and then dropping yet another BCS bowl game.
Oh, and OU still sucks.

what a tease
When you said pipe dream, I thought you were going to play out the Oklahoma 2-loss scenario, as unlikely as it seems. So I did that myself. That would have to come in the form of a loss to Missouri and a loss to either Tech or Oklahoma State. Let's assume that Oklahoma loses to Missouri, since that doesn't affect any other Big 12 South school's chances. So, if Tech also beats Oklahoma and UT beats Tech, UT wins the Big 12 South over Tech in a tiebreaker. If Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma and Texas beats Oklahoma State, Oklahoma State still has to lose to Nebraska, Kansas State or Kansas. If so, Texas would win the tiebreaker over OKlahoma State.
That said, the chances of this scenario are best captured by a modified line from the TV series "Frasier."
"There's an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the Tunneling Electron Microscope. Now this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesmally minute building block of our universe. If I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to detect Oklahoma's odds of losing two more conference games."
They lost to Colorado
it's not that hard to imagine that they lose another game or two.
UT 2006
Though I also think we're being overly optimistic and should be happy going to the Holiday Bowl.

agreed
I'm not expecting Texas to make it to the Big 12 Championship game, just saying it's not as unlikely as the electron microscope example would indicate.
At this point, I'd be happy with the Holiday Bowl, too.
Agreed
I would be happy with the Holiday Bowl at this point or even the Cotton Bowl. However, Missouri could just be a serious buzz saw for the Sooners right now coming out of this game... and never underestimate the confusion Tech can sow/bring in Lubbock (Texas and OU have both fallen to that one), or the game the Okies refer to as Bedlam.
I am not saying it will happen but it could. It happened to us last year.
I guess I am just a cock-eyed optimist.
and just to shcw how dumb aggies are...
they were cheering everytime OU took the lead against us not realizing that if the south came down to them and the RRS winner, they would be better off facing us at kyle field than facing OU in Norman.
From an Ags perspective...
The Aggies realize it is easier to be the horns at Kyle Field than OU in Norman. However, it is difficult for the Ags to cheer for the horns. The same reason the horns find it hard to cheer for the sooners, the Ags have a hard time cheering for the longhorns.

total agreement...
I've been getting hazed by an Aggie friend who in his short-sighted dumbass Aggieness thought I'd find it amusing to be included on an email that he sent to all his Marooned Out buddies. It was allegedly a picture of a nearly empty UT stadium with two minutes to go in the K.State game and the implication that we have no spirit as compared to them...
I countered to his entire 'CC' list that if he wants to make a little wager we can bet on whether UT or A&M will have a better conference record. Loser has to wear the winner gear all day the Sunday after Thanksgiving+1 game. We both go to a huge local church that is replete with Aggies who routinely "Whoop!" in service when a pastor mentions A&M in passing so this would be, to quote the immortal Peter Griffin, "SO Freakin' SWEET!" to have him take this bet since I'm convince the Ags will be lucky to be bowl eligible much less compete for the Big XII South Title.
Stoops
will deliver a pounding to Gary Pinkel's Missouri team. They'll win by 2 TD's or more.
Re
From a Longhorn perspective, I'd rather see A&M take the Big XII South title than OU.
Consider...
A) How insufferable OU fans will be crowing that they've made yet ANOTHER National Championship game (which they will assuredly lose...again.)
and 2) The chance that Fran might return for another season.
Best case scenario for me is that the Aggies beat OU but lose Thanksgiving. In that scenario, they can also afford to lose another game and still come out as champions (assuming, of course, we lose another and Tech and OSU finish with 3 losses, or 2 losses but a loss to A&M). This also works if they win out (other than UT) as well.
