Biggest storylines of the offseason?
What's on your mind as a Longhorn fan?
- A more dependable running game?
- Finding a pass defense?
- Akina taking over?
- Offensive line woes?
- Grades, transfers and shenanigans?
- The lack of interesting hairdos on Longhorn players, who can carry on the Ricky dread style tradition? (In the spring game I noticed a complete absence of dreads, cornrows, ponytails, etc.) Does M. Griffin still sport the dreads? Is that enough...one guy?

Definitely Defense
Every team on our schedule knows that our weakest area last year was overall pass defense. They also know that we lost three of the four guys back there. So, this season looks on paper to be the weakest Texas pass defense in many a year.
I am not worried about finding a running game. We will run the ball better because opponents will know that they can't ignore the pass.
I am not worried about Coach Akina at all. He's great. He's the reason we were good all along (not Chizik).
The OLine will be good, maybe great. We have two great tackles and a great center. There are a bunch of great players competing for the guard slots.
The lack of crazy hairdos doesn't bother me. It might even be a good thing. I would like to see a little more of the wacky dancing around and just plain exuberance of Vince, though. Vince was loose and he made other people smile and stay loose too.

Chizik won a NC....
What he was forced to run last year looked NOTHING like his prior defenses. That wasn't his doing.
How much of the Double-Eagle Flex will we implement this season?
um...
please explain to me how the guy calling the defensive plays was "forced" to run anything? akina was forced to operate within chizik's system, in reality, because akina wasn't calling the plays. chizik ran the same damn defense he ran every other year, we just didn't have the talent in the front 7 (on DL because of injuries and at LB because of inexperience and general poor play) to be as successful with it.
I know you haven't had a real job yet....
but in the real word (not academia)when the boss tells you to sell out the pass to stop the run, then that's exactly what you do. And then you take the first train out of town.
As I said before, compare his defenses at Auburn and the NC season to that of the '06 season and you'll find the back-7 play are not close to similar.
Wow
You know, there are other readers here that can see your comments, so, uh, you might want to beware the rational readership that is currently working in the real world who can call you on your b#llsh#t.
You may rationalize that a student is not a worthy opponent with whom to argue, but it is alone not a legitimate response to his point.
Why would The University choose to hire an excellent coordinator, allow him to do his thing during the most crucial season of this era, and then tighten his leash the next year when virtually nothing is at stake?

oh yeah...
If there's one thing Mack Brown is, it's a micromanager! That's exactly his personality....
For those of us with at least one foot in the land of rational thought, if you can criticize Mack Brown for anything, it's for the exact opposite! His trust of his coordinators is blind, sometimes to a fault. He is absolutely not a meddler. He's a CEO. And I'm fine with that. But to say that Mack meddled with Chizik's defense and told him what plays to call is utterly ridiculous.
I know it's tough for you to blame anything that goes wrong with the football team on anyone other than Mack because you hate him and want to fire him and bring in someone who can finish 7-5 every year, but sometimes, problems just are not Mack's doing. Ultimate blame lies with him, obviously, because he's the head coach, but can you at least one time in your life admit that not everything he does is wrong, and not everything that goes wrong was his doing?
And for the love of god, no one cares that I'm 25 and you're god knows how old. We're people who love Texas football. Can we have a rational conversation without you berating us because we're younger than you? What exactly about being younger makes us less qualified to speak intelligently? Age is not directly proportional to intelligence. If you persist in thinking that we're all idiots because many of us are young, then GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. No one here likes you anyway. And it has nothing to do with the fact that you're old. It has everything to do with the fact that you're an asshole. But guess what? I have the remarkable ability to realize that not all old people are assholes just because you are! Wow, look at that....rational thought! Look into it.
Hornschamps
Is the biggest hater ever (on this site) of the Texas coaching staff. He has some good insight but I presume he --doesn't-- have a copy of One Heartbeat on his mantle. He is our token SEC Bama-type fan or Arkansas-type fan who is never satisfied with the coach or anyone running the team in a non-MNC year. I admire his passion, but damn, cut Mack and the boys some slack. At least he isn't Les Miles.

One aspect of little Billy's
Your naivety is typical of those far-removed from the program. If you ever get back to Austin, tap into some sources, then maybe you'll get it. Until then, you are simply to be ignored.
wait, what?
So basically what you're saying is that unless I'm currently living in Austin, I can have no insight into any aspect of Texas football? I essentially lose any ability to comment on my team at all? That's an interesting and typically irrational theory.
So, then, when PB moves to South Bend to go to law school in the fall and becomes both a student (gasp!) and a non-Austin resident (double gasp!), you'll stop visiting this site, right? Because it will no longer hold any value to you as a fan blog if the insight doesn't come from a non-student Austin resident? That's true, right? Please say that's true. Pretty please? We can start another countdown: Days until HornsChamps stops ruining this site for everyone else!
something about a pot and kettle
"Your naivety is typical of those far-removed from the program"
Again with the stereotypes. The world is not so simple, not from my observations anyway.
Who here can say BZ is removed from the program? He's one of the most prolific commenters on this site, he researches (or just flat out knows) statistics and facts about the program that most people have to pull out of their asses, and his continuing commentary throughout the dolldrums of the offseason suggest a passion that is far beyond most fans that I know of.
"Removed from the program," to me, would be someone who lives in Travis County, takes the program for granted, shows up on Saturday, and then disappears for the entire offseason only to return just in time to brag about the Horns' position in the August preseason poll. There are about 100,000 of those guys, so why don't you go bother them.

HornsChamps
only you can create such animosity. Really, just look at your old comments and see how many times your comments have led to people posting to tell you that you are being an ass.
As some asshat once said:
Guess what sport. You could be collecting DC's garbage or be President George Bush himself and in neither case would your occupation buy you any credibility. Though I'm not surprised you're shallow enough to believe the contrary.
Oh wait, that was you:

In response to your.....
....wise-ass comment.
I'm sorry that I can't understand (none / 0)
I am too busy designing spacecraft for a living. What is it that you do?
Your parents must have done a poor job. Try some respect some day.
I've tried to stay out of this
But really, HC, you are being a total ass here. Your disdain of the coaches is legendary, and you constantly belittle those who happen to be born later than you. Seriously! You're schtick is tired.
Your parents must have done a poor job.
Really?! You want to bring parents into your little game? If my kids wind up being half as smart as Wells, I'll be a happy man. If you bothered reading some of the historical threads here, you would know that Wells is pretty much a genious (though you wouldn't know it by his spelling).
Try some respect some day.
Try that yourself, old-timer. You've been nothing but a crotchety old man since you arrived. Take a freakin' vacation.
If feel sorry for any
neighborhood kids who happened to venture onto Hornschamps lawn yesterday. Seriously though, HC is making this whole thing personal. Although I don't personally know Wells, I would never think to belittle his parents or his upbringing based on anything said on a Longhorn football blog. Irrational. Kind of like a lot of things that were said about BZ, which seem to be more of a personal vendetta that strayed way off the initial irrational topic of Mack Brown being the worst football coach of all time. I think we all know that being irrational and insulting around here doesn't pay much.
In conclusion, I have to say that my #1 concern is the running game and how GD plans on making it effective, especially in the red zone. No more 3rd down desperation QB sneaks would be a welcome relief.

And therein lies the problem
kicker, why can't you get it through your thick skull that it's the poor scheduling that has made Texas the doormat of the Big 12?
It's all you whippersnappers who didn't suffer through the 80's and 90's and think that Mack Brown is some sort of high-caliber coach that are the problem! It's not like he's the best Longhorn head coach since DKR or anything!
Seriously though, letting HC rant and rave may be the only excitement we get for the next month or two. At least it's interesting to watch him alienate the entire BON (or at least the part he didn't previously alienate)...
Try reading your own material..
Readers are required to avoid derogatory and hateful language. Demeaning a person.....is a great way to get censored.
We only censor hateful language or behavior that seeks only to disrupt the harmony of the community.
While I could care less what it is Wells and billyzane post to this blog, they shadow my every post and are incapable of controlling their obsessive-compulsive behavior. If they feel they need to attack me personally, perhaps they should visit the pharmacy or learn some manners. Step up and control/muzzle the attack dogs.
Duh....
no kidding. The quotes are from the rules of this blog. Not at all a surprise that you wouldn't recognize them Wells. Run along now shadow dog.
right....
He was referring to when you said, "try reading your own material" and then immediately quoted the rules of the blog. If you didn't mean to imply that those were "our own material" then you should really take some writing lessons.
Also, quit being a dick to everyone. Two tips for the price of one.
No I was kidding
But are you really trying to hide behind the rules of the blog?
Pot, this is kettle, you are black:
http://www.burntorangenation.com/use...
Show me one of your comments where you are not demeaning someone.
Chizik had it tough
all those NFL draft picks starting for him, and all. The talent of Griffin, Ross, Robison, et al was on par with the practice squad at Auburn.
That's an ok point,
but I always got the impression that the 2ndary simply underachieved on their own. I might accept the argument that it's the coaches fault for not getting them to play to their max potential, but I always felt that at some point it was up to them to make plays and they consistantly came up short.
You'll be happy to know...
Jamaal Charles is growing the dreads to carry on the rich legacy of Texas running backs with the dreads. I could not be more happy with this development.
Really
That's surprising to me for some reason. What's your source on this?
Although, I do remember his first couple of games his freshman year, he played with knee-high socks, which was, simply stated, AWESOME. It had an old-fashioned, badass feel to it. I remember thinking that he seemed pretty cocky for a freshman in the same backfield with Vince.

I saw a picture of him recently
I can't remember where I saw it (I'm obsessed with the football program so I visit a lot of sites). It may have been on Orangebloods.com at some point.
He looks like he's growing them out
In some of the track pictures from this outdoor season he looks like he's got some dreads growing out. They're little dreads, but they count. I remember him saying something about wanting to keep that tradition going.
I also really like his high socks. It just looks right.
Good call on the high socks
I've secretly thought they were pretty dope too, but never voiced my opinion.
I wonder if he can donate them to the alumni foundation next to Royal Ivey's white undershirts.
I dont know about biggest but the most refreshing
storyline of the offseason will be:
"Disgruntled fan asked not to return to blog."
