Big XII admits miss-call on Bennett's late hit on McCoy

Big 12: 'We missed calls'
SAN ANTONIO - The Longhorns had a reason to complain, after all.
So did Texas Tech.
The Big 12 showed members of the media a video Tuesday that covered various aspects of officiating. During the part on quarterback safety, the Big 12 admitted missing two roughing the quarterback calls last season, both involving the Longhorns.
The first involved the late hit by Texas A&M defensive end Michael Bennett on Texas quarterback Colt McCoy in the fourth quarter of last season's regular-season finale.
The other was a no-call on a facemask penalty by UT defensive end Brian Robison on Tech quarterback Graham Harrell.
The league also said it incorrectly penalized an Alabama-Birmingham player for retaliating, when the penalty should have gone against an Oklahoma player for a late shove out of bounds.

Is that
Is that Bennett hit the one that essentially ended the game because Colt threw an int? I remember screaming bloody hell about a missed late hit call that would have given us the ball back with a shot at making a drive for the win, but I can't remember much else about the play.
I don't think we'd get the ball back.
Possession had changed is my understanding. Pay-Back must happen this year, that's a given if I have to go down on the field to do it. Wait, the games an away game, I don't spend $$$$ in aggieland.
I guess someone on the team will be given that assignment..............Lucky dude.....
Heard I Mean...............
Remember Kellen Heard?
Officials also have admitted that his "late hit" was made prior to a whistle and that he shouldn't have been ejected. They also pointed out that Colt was removing his helmet while still on the field - also warrant of a penalty. Calls get missed. We deal with it.

In the age of Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ3-eNxBimI&NR=1
He didn't have his helmet off and he was not removing it, he unbuckled his chin straps. Something half the players on the field were in the process of doing. Big difference.
Second, it was after the whistle. It was flagrant. The officials use it as a textbook example of flagrant fouls.
"Aggie and Longhorn fans have debated throughout the winter about Kellen Heard's hit on Colt McCoy after the Texas quarterback threw an interception during the Aggies' victory in Austin. Heard was ejected from the game.
Big 12 officials, in a seminar for the media on officiating, used that play as an example of a flagrant hit. "These three plays were plays that were flagrant in nature and the players were correctly ejected from the game," the officiating video said."

Even if Heard didn't hear the whistle, he saw Colt removing his chinstraps and half the team walking off the field.
You can go back to your self loathing and genital mutilation now.
Moving off the field?
Unless Colt was going to join the Aggie team, he was moving to the wrong side of the field. Also, if you look at the bottom of the screen, you see other players still running and making tackles. Colt was running - I'll give you that. But He was not running to the right sideline.

Wow
YouDontKnowMe represents the powerful combination of selfish narrow-mindedness, weak-minded rationalization, and general stupidity that has nearly destroyed the well-intended fabrics of politic debate, academics, and economic or legal discourse.
What an asshole. I hate you.

Football minutes
You should know to go back and look at the time on the clock. With 1:26 left, Colt throw. With 1:25 left on the clock, Dodge intercepted the throw. At 1:24, Dodge goes down. With 1:22 left on the clock, they flash to McCoy who is down on the ground - obviously in pain. When you look at the second by second breakdown of the game, you find that the hit by Heard occurred with 1:23 left on the clock. His back was to the action. He never saw Dodge go down. If the clock is on 1:22, guess what time the whistle blew. Did you ever play football? I'm guessing no because if you had, you would know that every defensemen is taught that the QB is the final line of defense in the case of an interception. Once the interception happens, the QB is on defense and is able to make a tackle. It is for this reason that the defense is taught to tackle the QB to keep him from tackling the interceptor.
Let's address the Colt chinstrap/helmet move. If he wasn't removing his helmet, your argument that Heard should have seen this and not tackled him is moot. If he was removing it (as you would guess by the chin strap being taken off, then that is warrant of a penalty. YOU CANNOT REMOVE YOUR HELMET WHILE STILL ON THE FIELD. If you still contest he wasn't removing it, seeing as how the clock was still moving and no whistle had sounded, He was a free target.
If you want to contest this, please feel free to talk to your precious Mack Brown. He was the one who discussed this while in my hometown talking to fans.
And genital mutilation? That would offend more if it wasn't coming from someone whose screen name comes from a castrated cow.

Your a moron
Watch the video clip above, the clock stops at 1:22 because of the turnover, then about five seconds later they switch to the shot of colt on the ground, plenty of time passes before they show Colt on the ground. You cant determine when the hit by Heard occurred because their is no clock on the replay that shows him hitting Colt. But judging by the circumstantial evidence, Colt stopping and beginning to unbuckle his chin strap, the other players that around the late hit that you can see have stopped playing and the fact that the refs through Heard out of the game point to the fact that it was after the play.
As for the helmet, it seems pretty obvious to be that he was just un-buckling his chin straps, but I guess we will never know because Heard's flagrant late hit stopped him from completing what he was doing. Bottom line is the helmet never came off, so no flag was warranted.
Moron
First of all, it is you're. Your shows possession. You're is a contraction that means "you are".
I'm having a hard time trusting your judgment now.

Nice try
We all know that you screwed up and are trying to cover now. No really, it was a good attempt.

Gotta defend Wells here
"Your a moron" is a pretty common internet phrase. Sometimes it is used inadvertently. But, in most cases, it is intentional.
We have the dumbest rocket scientists here
Maybe I'm just a sucker for grammar jokes, but I thought the 'your' was funny.
Thanks for the all caps
He still isn't removing his helmet, just the straps. That much is undeniable, because of visual proof. His helmet is on.
The rules do not leave it open for refs to interpret whether or not a player is about to remove his helmet.
Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area
(Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment;
through play; between periods; and during a measurement
for a first down).
Let's revisit your intial post.
Officials also have admitted that his "late hit" was made prior to a whistle and that he shouldn't have been ejected
They didn't at all and in fact, point out to the contrary in this article I posted. Did you even read it or are you just making things up?
Big 12 officials, in a seminar for the media on officiating, used that play as an example of a flagrant hit.
And Mackie
went on to say that the officials made a mistake and admitted it. Take it up with him. The point I am trying to make is that calls get missed in every game. Sometimes they get missed in your favor and other times they get missed against you. It sucks, yes. But we have to deal with it.

What????????????
It is for this reason that the defense is taught to tackle the QB to keep him from tackling the interceptor.
Don't you mean BLOCK the QB ...........
Regardless, totally unsportsman like conduct no matter what "second" it occured.
It was in my second post
In the one I went into detail. I said that Mack was the one talking about the refs admittance of a mistake. But nice try in trying to discredit me.

How is going from
Arguing that Heard hit was legal and Colt should have been the one penalized to "calls get missed, deal with it" not backtracking?
Losing Focus
Grammer smack is not a good way to argue a point.
Calm down folks...
or neither one of you gets dessert.
Regardless of what anyone says, most can probably agree that the Heard hit was outside the lines of good sportsmanship, and the Bennett hit was just hard-nosed football (according to Selvin Young, atleast).
AGGRESSIVE AGRO ALERT!

gotta give it to ya...
props to atm who must resort to cheap shots and late hits in order to keep this "so-called rivalry game" interesting!!
I almost forgot that the aggies consider us their rivals...lol
Question of the day: which UT LB or DL is going to knock the crap out of McGee this year??
Sergio Kindel would be my guess...........
Are you kidding me????
It's gonna be Kelson. No question about it. Ask Joel Klatt.

LOL
I thought we were after Kellen Heard anyway.........
Which means if he's still at A&M an offensive person will take him out. If so, have Colt throw a INT to Heard, then tackle the man with the ball.
the question should be
which UT defensive player won't give McGee a lickin?
If I'm not mistaken...
...This was the hit that knocked Colt out of the game. I remember from the replay that there was helmet to helmet, despite what Selvin said. The next pass was by Snead, and it was an INT, so that may be what you were talking about BigTexBD.
Bennett's hit is what knocked him out of play
But it was not helmet to helmet. Bennett's helmet hit Colt's shoulder resulting in the reinjuring of the stinger. The pass was incomplete. Sneed came in and threw the final interception.

Well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRTfztaioQ0
Watch McCoy's head crack backwards, also notice that Bennett's head goes down as soon as Colt throws it. I don't know if helmet-to-facemask counts, but it seems about as dangerous. The game was basically over at this point, so I don't know why this kind of thing is necessary, or even desirable. I hope that there is no retaliation in CS beyond a hard-hitting game a-la 2nd half of the RRS last year, and of course, on the scoreboard.
