Game 2: #21 TCU at #9 Texas

#21 TCU (1-0) vs #9 Texas Longhorns (1-0)

Saturday, September 8, 2007 · 6:00 p.m. CT

Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (85,123) · Austin, TX

Television: Fox Sports Net

Radio: 98.1 FM / 1300 AM (Austin)

Texas takes the field again with a chance to reassert itself as the team many of us thought were favorites for the Big 12 title this year. The Horned Frogs provide us with a real test to see just where this team stands.

I'm anxious, but excited. I want to see us at our best. Let's get after it...

Let's GO HORNS

they need to come out with a bang, start strong and finish strong.  Make an impression on the AP Voters.

screw the AP voters

once again, you guys are worrying way above your means.

win the damned game. Then worry about everything else. Don't worry about OU, A&M, worry about TCU.  They can beat you.

I don't think they will, and I don't want them to. I want you guys to win all your games before you lose to us. :)

beat frickin' TCU, dammit. Run the ball well. That's the key. you know this.

I'm sick of this.  I am going crazy.  Some of us "over"reacted last week because we saw the same old shit.

Guess what folks, this season is already in the shitter.  Did anyone else watch OU?  They looked unstoppable.  Think Bob Stoops is ready to tear Greg Davis apart?  Hell yes he is, and Mack will be hearing it for the entire season.

They're worse now than they were a year ago.  This is depressing.

10-0

10 points on two Texas turnovers - both Colt's fault.

We struggled last week because Colt played subpar. We're losing by 10 at half to TCU for the exact same reason.

Double check the last half, we moved the ball on one drive effectively, then killed ourselves with offensive pass interference penalties.  Have had absolutely nothing since.  There has not been even a glimmer that things were looking better.  Dinks and dunks under the defense to get rid of the ball before a sack?  They're just waiting for a mistake which we have been happy to provide.

OK, I take it back for this week..  I'll have to admit it, if Davis and Mack really figured they would wear them down in the long run, and thus no reason to panic, then I underestimated them.  I hesitate to say it with complete confidence, but what the hell.  The outcome was truly awesome.  I don't want to have to double my blood pressure dosage though to make it through the rest of the season.....

by tx beer hunter on Sep 8, 2007 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions

key player going to sustain some kind of injury before even half way into the season? This is getting ridiculous.  They need to take some shots deep and, I don't see any reason to stop running out of the Offset I, JC had a few solid 5-6 yard pickups through that.

by mvplonghorns on Sep 8, 2007 7:46 PM CDT reply actions

I see a reason not to...

by DreadedOne on Sep 8, 2007 7:49 PM CDT up reply actions

They dare us to do what we do best?

Actually, last year our deep attack was next to our running game as far as poor execution. And picking what we do best right now is embarrassing.

Of course, if you don't try, you don't know.

Your right; they're daring the Horns to go for it.

Maybe there will be a point where the Horns don't have a choice. Do we pull a Michigan or do we get mean, really mean, and dictate the game?

Look...

at halftime we're winning the TOTAL yardage game AND the rushing yardage game (suprising?). The only reason we're losing is the two bad passes by Colt. Davis needs to take some DEEP shots on this coming drive.

Defense is playing well, and we'd have a TD or FG if it weren't for the 2 Offensive PI's.

We can still win this game. TCU isnt taking anything from us, we're giving it to them. Goddamn fans, get your heads out of your asses. We ARE playing shitty, but it's not over yet.

Great run by Colt

but he's limping a little, too.

Now we'll see the goal line offense.

O for 1.

who has scored from one yard out this season.  Go figure

HELP

I just lost coverage (storm in the area) for the last 10 minutes - can someone give me a detailed response on what happened after we tied it 10-10?

Thanks

The situation

Texas recovered the ball on the ensuing kick off (TCU botched the squib(ish) kick).  Major play of the drive was a run by Colt for about 20ish yards to the 1.  Vondrell punched it in on the second try for 6.

TD

On kickoff they fumbled at about 25 yard line.  End of 3rd qrt.  McCoy with 20 yard unplanned run to 1.  McGee on first carry with Lokey And OBG as fullbacks. Stuffed.  Same thing on 2nd down.  Good Ppush.  TD!!!

Recovered fumble on KO at 26.

On 3rd and 8, colt ran to the one.

McGee scored on second played over rt. tackle.

TCU fumbled the kickoff

Texas took it into the endzone in 4 or 5 plays.  The key play was a long scramble by Colt to the 2 ydln.  That was sandwiched in between a couple of ineffective running plays.  We got stuffed on the goalline once, and took it in the second attempt.  Both attempts were with McGee.

pooch kickoff

fumbled by upback, reecovered by texas.

ran a few plays, including a colt draw for about 15 yards to the 1.  mcgee comes in for the goalline and gets in on the second try with great push from the line.

Slow Board

Is the board slow and unresponsive to others?  I am not seeing messages updated automatically and I am not able to see follow up messages?

by JohnsonUT on Sep 8, 2007 9:06 PM CDT reply actions

yes

we overloaded it, i think.

by billyzane on Sep 8, 2007 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions

3 and out

The TCU defense should be winded.  We should get good field position.  Time to put them away.

Defense

Really stepped up tonight.

Fuck yes.

Why is it that the....

Texas punter never gets off a punt like that?  I mean, think about it, we never, ever, have a good punter on this team.  I would be willing to give a schollie to a good punter.

Preaching to the choir

I've been arguing this for years.  Go out, find the best kicker/punter you can - and sacrifice those two scholarships.  They're a small cog that can make a big difference... especially in a tight game.

I'll always beat the drum for the kicker/punter.
