Who's Your Longhorn Piñata?
But beyond the obvious scapegoats, most fans find a guy each season who they can't watch without seeing the bad in his play. Your piñata scores a touchdown? The defender obviously left him wide open. Hits the clutch three? "About frackin' time."
This is your thread to share with the rest of us your Longhorn piñatas over the years.
I'll give you a personal example to start this fiesta: Dusty Mangum. Strike one: his name was Dusty, which is fine for one of the Three Amigos but wholly inappropriate for a football player. Strike two: the girls who knew nothing about football absolutely loved him. Strike three: he celebrated like a damn Grammatica after hitting a 2nd quarter field goal against... Kansas. You're out, pal.
My contempt was so pronounced, in fact, that as Dusty Mangum's Rose Bowl-winning kick fluttered through to beat Michigan, I jumped around in celebration, then bad-mouthed our kicker for barely getting the damn ball through the uprights. Piñata!
Now it's your turn. Who are your Longhorn piñatas?

This year I had three...
...they all played the same position, or some form there of. Every time one of our starting LBs made a tackle something to the effect of "Finally!" or "Try doing that BEHIND the line of scrimmage next time," would come flying out of my mouth.
Easy, Robert Killebrew
easy choice
For me, it's Robert Killebrew the last two years. No question that I dread his unnecessary roughness call each game that keeps drives alive. What's worse is that I grew to expect it. Combine that with his general suckiness, and I cringed the last two seasons each time he came into the game....
Charles/McCoy
Up until the Nebraska game it was Jamaal Charles, but after it was Colt McCoy because before every snap I was nervous he was going to turn the ball over.

It's the simplest, worst application ever. Which puts it in my wheelhouse. If the program were good at all, it'd be beyond my pay grade.
Last Year
it was Big Henry. I would scream every time we got near the goal line and he would pussy-foot into the hole or try to bust it outside. I think he cost me a week of my life due to high blood pressure. This years was Mr. Jackson. Every time someone threw a deep ball I just closed my eyes and prayed.
Melton
I agree. I knew right after the first ohio state game he would be a waste of time and space in the backfield. During the 06 season, I yelled from my seat to get him out of the game every time he came on the field. During the A&M game when he came on to convert the 4th and 1 deep in Aggie terrtory, I was about to bust my fucking jugular with rage. I screamed out in disappointment that he was in, and then someone yelled at me to shut up (to be honest I was probably annoying, but I knew I was right). I said "he's gonna bounce it outside and get tackled for no gain." And voila. It happened. I've never been so pissed at Mack than that moment.
Melton always made me angry for the way he thought he was a 170-lb speed back. He just couldn't accept the fact that he was a fat back who's supposed to run up the middle. Dumb. Ass. I'm glad he was moved to DE. Now he can't kill our momentum anymore.
Colt/Jamaal
Everytime Colt had the ball and was flushed out of the pocket it seemed like just a matter of time before you saw the ball stripped or one of his now infamous deep ball to the defense. After Jamaal pretty much fumbled away our chance at beating them POS Sooners i was nervous everytime he touched the ball waiting to hear fumble. Chris Simms will obviously always be the favorite. I have never seen someone choke in big games like that kid did.

LBs a-plenty!
Bobino. I've never seen anybody blitz that much, miss so many people, and record absolutely no sacks.
Honorable Mention to Joey Wright, who never met a jumper he couldn't miss and was terminally allergic to defense. But, of course, that dates me, and I'm sure to hear it from Shake and BigTexBD.

Mangum
As a K-State fan, I know I'm not allowed to participate in a UT pinata-fest, but I wanted to make a comment on Peter's selection of Dusty Mangum. There has never been a Longhorn player I hated more than Mangum. At the game in Manhattan in 2002, he came out of the locker room early (practically alone) at halftime, went to his sideline, and started kicking field goals over our band. Damnedest thing I ever saw.
Then of course the little bastard had to go and make a big GD FG to win the game.
Jason Klotz
He hit one big shot (OU in 2003) his entire career and went 10-25 with 10 turnovers against Nevada in his last game.
Mine too...
hard to root for such a complete liability. Shea Morenz ranks up there.
True story
One night a couple of friends and I were at Taco C on mlk after a night of drinking, and in walks Jason Klotz. Earlier this particular week Bobby Knight mentioned that if he could have one player from the big twelve he would take Klotz because of his work ethic (Klotz was also arrested for domestic violence that same week). One of my friends decided to go mention what Bobby Knight had said about him, and Klotz responded with a straight face "Yeah that was pretty cool. I'm probably one of the best power forwards in the nation now. I'm at least a second round, maybe first round pick." Then they proceeded to get into an argument about Chris Mihm and Vlade Divac. Ever since that night I've always hated Klotz.
Mack Brown
I don't think any changes would have been made had not all the message boards exploded beginning with the 2007 Arkansas State game.
No, not Mack.
It was reported during the 2007 season that there is an athletic department staff person earning $35K whose job description includes monitoring message boards. It seems Mack got the message.
Shit, gettin' paid to read BON...
for real. I earn a lot more than that, but reading BON at work is not part of my job description. I'd (and many more who read this daily) would be a top performers during review time.
You'd have to underbid me
I'm willing to do it for only $30K.
Yes
He listens to what is being posted on the boards, not the big boosters who have Delos' personal cellphone number.
You're absolutely right
so why would they waste $35K monitoring message boards?
They just gave Davis a $75,000 raise.
Do you think $35,000 is even a blip on the budget? Someone's buddy needed a job and the only thing he was good at was surfing the internet.
Mike Williams..
...yes, that Mike Williams from the basketball team.
I was one of his biggest supporters, helped lead the "Free Mike Williams" chants in the O-zone, and told everyone how much I thought he could contribute to the team...
One night, I was going to play an IM basketball game in Gregory, and Mike Williams comes up from behind me and tries to take my gym bag from me. After I wouldn't let go of it, he started walking around me in circles as I kept trying to move forward. Really annoyed, I stopped moving, put my bag down, and said, "Mike, what the hell are you doing? What do you want? I'm just trying to get to an IM game."
Ignoring my query, he kept walking around me, cocking his head, making strange noises, and essentially gave an impression highly similar to the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park. Next, he made a few pokes at my bag, got down in a duckwalk, and started waving his arms around. After a few more seconds, he walked away, and I turned to see him give LaMarcus Aldridge a high-five. I picked up my bag and went into the gym...
After that, I refused to cheer for him the rest of his pathetic career...my parents said there was a video clip in one game of the entire student section going berserk after he scored a lay-up, while I was standing there with my arms crossed and rolling my eyes.
I was really glad he left Texas...
Mike was weird
I had a friend who lived on his floor in Jester and he reported similar encounters. One time he walked into the elevator at the same time as my friend, hugged him and wouldn't let go until they got to their floor.
Funny that you were so jaded by that experience.
Remember how well he was coming on in the tournament before he left?
not exactly a person...
but the Horns' incredibly aggravating tendency over the last few years to give up 1st downs on 3rd and 12 - 3rd and 20. It always happens the same way. Opposing QB takes a few steps to avoid some pressure, then throws to some wide open receiver on the sideline. It's like the DBs decide beforehand to give up after 4-5 seconds, figuring the QB must have been sacked by then. I'd honestly rather have our D facing 3rd and 4 than 3rd and 14.

Scott Derry...
truth is, it's not even his fault, just that every time he (or Killebrew/Bobino, to be honest) didn't do something, I was screaming about how Sergio/Norton/Much would have made the play.
I became insufferable to watch a game with, constantly checking to see which linebackers were in the game, and if I saw the vets, I'd start with the old - "oh, yeah, you watch, they're definitely going to score here then... do we not even WANT to win this game!!!"
Finally, late in the lamentable effort vs. the agroids, the young guys are in, and McGee completes a big pass, I think it was the touchdown to a wide-open, nobody within 10 yards of him Goodson. So... my first reaction is: "well, if they'd been playing these young linebackers like they should, they'd have been improved in coverage and never would have allowed that!!!!!"
bottom line- even when he made a play, I'd be all over the - 'Sergio would have done it 5 yards back - and harder!' bandwagon...

Roughing the Kicker
Phillip mutherfucking Geiggar
Also "pulling up on a fast break from 45ft out" Runnin' Horns Legend: Brandy Perriman
Huge play in Texas football history.
Completely devasting play, but I blame it more on Mack and going for the block kick instead of setting up a return for Vasher and letting Major drive us down the field and into the Rose Bowl against the 'Canes. We probably lose that game but still I wanted to see how we would have matched up against that great Miami squad. Imagine the build up for that game and Mack's decision as to who starts that game at qb.
Man, I always have wondered how we would have faired against that Miami team. I think we would have had a shot against them. Our secondary was a beast that year and Quentin Jammer would not have let Andre Johnson run wild like Nebraska did. We also would have given that Miami secondary alot of problems because of the size and speed that we had at wideout. Also, we had a pretty decent running game that year as well and Ced Benson would have given us a balanced offense something that Miami, never really saw that year.
I, still, think that we would have lost but it would have been a competitive game and gone to the final minute. The difference is that Miami's qb was better than Applewhite or Simms and whoever would have started would make a mistake against Reed and Co.
Who knows what would have happened if Geiggar didn't get that roughing the kicker call. Devastating call. Probably the most devastating penalty in the MB era.

Still Simms
I still blame him for everything bad in every game. It really is his fault. All of it.
Brilliant.
No matter what football game I'm watching, it somehow comes back to how Chris Simms sucks and "isn't it wonderful retribution how his NFL career is sucking?" Something like, "well, at least we don't have to listen to Simms talk about how the game was lost by his teammates and he played perfectly."

but my pick is Joe Walker. For those who don't know he was a CB in the mid to late 90's. I was in high school, and all I remember is that his man always wide open. That guy got burnt consistently. Very frustrating.
Gotta be Killebrew
I remember his first 15 yard penalty as a freshman...it was late in a blowout, and I remember thinking, "there is some intensity! Can't wait to see that kid in 3 years."
Damn Killebrew made me hate myself for the last 3 years. Never been so happy to see a player graduate, cooking skills or no.
Kwame Cavil
Was Major's great hope before anyone had even heard of Roy Williams... and he just plain pissed me off. I've had a few cocktails between the time he played and 2008 and most of his instances of stupidity elude me. However, getting suspended before the 2000 Cotton Bowl and watching us lose to Arkansas was AWESOME.
Watching Kwame become the first under Mack to declare early for the Draft... and not get drafted: Awesomer.
Kwame
I'm pretty sure he was encouraged to leave early after his positive steroids test. It was him and a DE that got caught.
Brian Boddicker
i have no idea why. completely irrational. if i had to pinpoint when it happened, i think it was when i was standing next to him at Sonic and realized that there was no way he was 6'10" (his listed height). this pissed me off for some reason. i have no idea why. i wasn't even drunk.
Good call
I was going to go a different direction with this but you reminded me of Boddicker. I was kinda young and I just hated a "6'10" center that just shot 3-pointers.
Jason Klotz was up there too. I hated him wearing the face mask so long after getting injurd. I hate Richard Hamilton for the same reason.
Brian "The Bod" Boddicker
I dont remember anyone ever calling Him that during his playing days, but Im trying to get it to catch on posthumously.
The Bod deserves no ire for these things listed here, for as close to God as he was, even The Bod cannot question The BodFathers plan.
It was not in His design to allow The Bod the skills of rebound, dribbling or defense. Boxing out, pick and rolls, or running upright were not His strong suits. But The Bod could shoot, and He could shoot in the clutch.
Its been a while since my UT days, and my memory fades, but I do know this, the well coifed, awkwardly framed shooting machine known as The Bod, won no less than 57 games with last second three point shots. That was His plan, and that was His purpose.
If you can listen closely you can still hear His legacy echo in the drum. 5... 4... OMG DONT DRIBBLE WHAT ARE YOU DOING 3... 2... GASP 1... 0... (swish).

Has anyone else pointed out that you capitalize His & Him when referring to Boddicker, as is usually reserved for God?
How's the golden statue coming?
Geiggar to Selvin Young to Melton to.... this
might be shocking but its... MARCUS GRIFFIN.
I have never seen a guy take so many bad angles on tackles. Really, he would overrun so many plays and always get caught trying to chase down a guy and he just didn't have the speed to do that.
That coupled with the fact that his brother was one of my all-time favorite players and Marcus looked like Michael, just absent the total dominance.
- Geigger for "Roughing the Kicker"
- Selvin for just never making a big play, and always running into his blockers and piles of defenders.. and then for kicking ass in the pro's and showing us that he was actually good even though we only saw it in his first year before the ACL Tear.
- Melton for obvious reasons. Mainly for not being able to ever get a third or fourth and one. I blame him for not getting the first down in the K-State game where Colt wend down the next play. I also blame him for not getting the fourth and one in the 12-7 A&M game on the opening drive. Can somebody please tell me that his eligibility is done?
My 2007 Pinatas
- The offensive Offensive Line. No matter what they did, "Could that hole have been any WIDER?" and "try protecting the damn QB!" My personal favorite, "did you remember what color uniform you're wearing today?" If they actually made a play, I usually scoffed and regarded it as a fluke or, "yeah, don't be impressed, that's what they're supposed to be doing. They should do it better and more often."
- Greg Davis. When I can start calling the plays (keep in mind, I'm a hardcore football fan, but I'm still a chick), I know we're in trouble. And no matter what play he ran, it was the wrong one.
- Jamaal Charles. So what if he ran 100000 yards in the 4th quarter, why wasn't he playing the whole game like that?!? We could have won easily, won by halftime, and won by a billion points if he'd played every quarter like that. And my God, put some stick'em on that ball, boy!
Great idea for a comment board, I'm loving reading them all!
~Katie
Not a Texas Pinata...
But I do need to add Reggie Bush to my list of pinatas. His illegal Heisman is the reason VY, who proved he really deserved it, didn't receive it. Additionally, Reggie-mania was making me so ill by about week 2 of the 2005 season that it eventually drove me to writing hate-email to Ivan Maisel (yeah, the ESPN guy) for ass-kissing Reggie once again. The funny part is that not only did he vehemently respond and try to prove me wrong, he had to eat his words after the Rose Bowl, especially when I sent another email, "Reggie who?" I freakin' hate that db (not the defensive kind) and am so glad he's sucking ass with the Saints (and managed to rank 15 spots below VY on ESPN's top 25 all-time best college players).
by Katie McBeast on Jan 25, 2008 12:03 AM CST up reply actions
Reggie Deserved it in the Regular Season
I wanted VY to win the Heisman as much as anybody, but, lets be realistic, Reggie Bush deserved the Heisman that year. If the voting was done after the bowls than VY definitely wins it but Reggie had a better season. He had a way more higlight reel plays than VY. VY had two while Reggie had at least 5 or 6 big time plays. The only VY play's that people remember from that regular season were the throw to Limas Sweed and the 80 yard TD run against Oklahoma State. Reggie had the Bush push, the two memorable TD's against Notre Dame, that TD against Fresno St. and the reverse field TD against Oregon.
I watched every Texas game the past 10 years and I watched like three USC games that year and I just feel like Reggie had more memorable plays that regular season and performances.
To your comment about the illegal Heisman. I think people are too riled up about Reggie taking illegal benefits. I'm pretty sure he is not the first Heisman winner to do that and he definitely won't be the last. Don't get me wrong, it is terrible that he cheated but it still won't diminish the guy as a great football player. VY is obviously better but Reggie was a great player. That is big time college football and thats what guys do.
Once again, if the Heisman was given out after the bowls VY wins in a landslide. I, personally, would not want the Heisman commitee to do that because it would sometimes make people completely forget about a player's regular season. Too many guys, not including VY, would win the Heisman based on their bowl performances and I don't think thats right.
by FNJ on Jan 25, 2008 12:17 AM CST up reply actions
Don't agree, Reggie had some highlights but
not a more complete season than VY. Reggie's best game that season was hands down his effort againt Fresno State who lost 4-5 games that season and didn't even win the WAC title. VY took the Horns into the Horseshoe and beat a defense with Hawk and Carpenter. He smoked Oklahoma and only "struggled" in one game against A&M. His performance in the Big 12 Title game was insane.
He led the nation in passing efficiency while rushing for over a 1000 yards. It makes me nauseous that Tim Tebow has a Heisman and VY doesn't as well.
If Reggie played at LSU or any other school not in the LA media market, VY has the trophy.
VY performance against tOSU.
His performance against the Buckeyes, statistically speaking, was not that great. He threw, either one or two picks, and did not have that great of a game. It was still a great performance because he threw a beautiful TD to Limas and we came out of there with the best win in the regular season of the Mack Brown era. VY, I feel, just didn't have that razzle dazzle and flash that Bush had and that was the difference.
Reggie did not win the Heisman by one of the largest margins in the history of the trophy for no reason. He was a great player and voters felt that he was the best player in the country and I at that time did not disagree with that decision. VY showed them at the Rose Bowl.
What also hurt VY was the fact that we blew pretty much every team out except tOSU and A&M and so he did not have as many great "Heisman moments" as Reggie Bush. He did not have as many clutch moments and playes as he had when he was a sophmore. He rarely played deep into the fourth quarter. That was the difference in the end result. I think voters did not really look at the statistics but more of the candidates moment's and big play's. I thought, personally that Reggie in the regular season was more deserving. Also, the fact that Reggie had a great season the previous year and was a finalist kind of helped him, as well, because he already was established on the national scene for a couple of years where as VY was only on the national scene for one year.

The 2nd rule of BON Club is,

Seriously, I dont know where to start with your wrong-ness.
VY, I feel, just didn't have that razzle dazzle and flash that Bush had and that was the difference
That razzle dazzle was just smoke and mirrors. All he did was run east/west against a pathetic assortment of run defenses.
Reggie did not win the Heisman by one of the largest margins in the history of the trophy for no reason
Yes, and that reason was that he got pumped by the LA hype machine, not because he was the best Heisman winner in history. Voters are dumb and easily swayed by talking heads, all of whom are based in LA or NY/Connecticut, and none of whom watched VY play.
Reggie Wasnt Even the Starting Tail Back
If he was the best player in college football, dont you think he should be the starter?
He was good, and in any other year, he would be the hands down favorite. But Vince was unstoppable.

Undefeated season, leading the nation in passing efficiency, and running like he did, its a havishamockery that he didnt win the heisman.
If Bush doesnt mount up hundreds of return yards against Fresno State, the week before the balloting, Vince wins. Most votes were cast before Colorado. Excuse me, before 70-3 Colorado.

Hahahahahahaahahahaahhahhahhaahahahah...
...ha!
everyone's entitled to their own opinion...
... but yours is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!
but Reggie had a better season.
Wrong!
Bush had a good season, maybe even a great one. But other than setting airtime records on ESPN, it was in now way a historic season. VY's season was. And the statistics are skewed because he sat for so much of the second half in every game. Bottom line, he was the best college football player that year, and probably any other year you'd care to throw in...
He had a way more higlight reel plays than VY.
Wrong!
They just played his highlights that much more. Vince had way more big plays throughout the year. He basically accounted for most of the points scored that year, and in case you don't recall - his team set a record for points scored. They just didn't play every VY touchdown pass a thousand times a week...
... Reggie had more memorable plays that regular season and performances.
Wrong!
Just because every exciting play of his was rerun a thousand times did not mean he made a thousand memorable plays. If you don't remember all of VY's memorable plays, you just weren't paying attention. Every week VY did something that basically nobody had ever done quite like him. You watch a highlight reel of VY and you see a combination of speed, strength, skill and grace that you've never seen before. You watch a highlight reel of Bush and you can compare it to highlight reels of Rocket Ismael, or Eric Metcalf, Dave Meggett, Marshall Faulk, or Barry Sanders (although, Sanders was so far better than he that you'd never mistake the two.) Nothing you've never quite seen before. Nothing all that truly extraordinary.
You want extraordinary? Once in a lifetime types? Guys you still have clear in your mind 30 years later? Then you're talking about guys like OJ Simpson. Or Herschel Walker. Or Earl. Or Bo.
Or Vince Young...
by agent orange on Jan 25, 2008 7:51 PM CST up reply actions
Damn, well done, agent
You established all points well. You're spot on about how VY did as much and more than Reggie, it was just a matter of media hype.
One play that comes to mind was during the beat down of Kansas when he threw something like a 45 yard TD pass off his back foot. He didn't step into the throw at all. But since it wasn't a long-developing broken play, it wasn't as "memorable".
All hail Vince Young.
For basketball it had to be... Daniel Gibson.
After TJ, there was so much hype about this new guard from Houston who was this insane scorer and great player. I never saw it. I saw a kid who stunk it up against Nevada and then had the audacity to get announce that he wasn't going pro.
He would disappear for chunks of time. He had like one monstrous game against Baylor. That was it.
I'm happy he's doing so well in the pro's, but his game just never translated to college ball to me.

Tom Penders and the Runnin' Horns are the reason I am a die hard Horns fan in everything but basketball. That man ripped my heart out with that freakin system at such a young age in my Horns loving career.

Talk about a sorry set of linebackers...
Watching the LBs this year reminded me of that group.
I knew a guy that had a huge beef with Tyson King, too. The guy always seemed to put up 100+ tackles a season, but seemed to miss a lot more than he made. This guy also thought that Peter Gardere was a d-bag and wanted to kick his ass.

Brad Buckman seemed to get on my nerves for whatever reason. I don't even remember if it was true, but was he really a McDonald's All-American?
For a guy with that label, he really didn't do a lot of shit his first couple of years. Then finally he stepped it up the year that Tucker was ruled academically ineligible and Aldridge went down with hip surgery. He really didn't have a choice. It was him and Gibson to carry the load.
And every game, the commentators had to keep mentioning that his daddy was a great golfer. I mean seriously, am I supposed to give a flying fuck?

It seemed like every freshman mistake he made his first year, I noticed. He would make up for every one with a pick six, but in my eyes, they were all handed to him by terrible passes.
During his junior year, I finally realized how terribly wrong I was about the guy. And thank god I was.
I kinda went through the same thing with Benson on offense. I chocked every great play he made up to, "anyone can run with this o-line."
Selvin Young
Everytime he fumbled you could see it coming before it even happened. He use to make me so mad!

After Abe Lemons won the NIT and got COY in 1978, we were on a bit of a high. LaSalle Thompson, Johnny Goodman, Jim Krivacs, Ron Baxter, Gary Goodner and Mike Wacker...all under Lemons. Horns Hoops was a major event. Then Weltlich comes on board with a 32-0 run and NC under Bobby Knight at Indiana on his resume. He was like a cold, wet blanket over our program. We quit going to games my senior year, when they went 6-22. It was just too painful after the Lemons years. We weren't that great nationally during Abe's tenure, but he and the players made it fun. Weltlich's first year, not so much...
Also, I had already graduated, but who muffed the punt against the Dawgs in the 1983 (1/1/84) Cotton Bowl? I have successfully blocked him from my mind. That cost us the NC. I realize many of you were still in the womb/crib, but that was a devastating moment in Horn history.
Yeah, I was out a few years too, and I was
never so sick as I was after that muffed punt. The hapless soul was Craig Curry, if I remember correctly, a really pretty fair safety from the Kashmere Gardens in Houston. I don't remember whether he was our regular punt returner or not.
Horndude: I was
At that Cotton Bowl game against Georgia... yep it was devastating and probably cost us a NC that year when the bowl results from that evening came in. Don't remember who did it though. I was just stunned and sickened when it happened.
My player for pinata is probably Melton; when he got stuffed against tOSU, I was disgusted with him at that point. GLad to see he can contribute now at DE though. John Mackovic is up there as well... he killed me so many times with the losses he produced. It was truly painful for me as a diehard Horns fan during his tenure.
Lovell Pinkney
I was kicking around a few names that have already been mentioned: Shea Morenz, Henry Melton (I think I could bring him down at the goaline), etc. Then I remembered the one person from my time on the 40 Acres that really inspired contempt...Lovell Pinkney. Talk about a waste of talent. That guy was a beast, physically, but he couldn't stay on the field and couldn't stay out of trouble on the field. I've never been so happy for someone to leave school early.
BTW...
I did later read that he had turned his life around, so good on him. At the time, though, I couldn't stand the guy.
Also heard that he helped convince Durant to come to UT...
Agree on Lovell, but not my Pinata
I entered as a Freshman the same year as Pinkney. I can't remember a more hyped pre-Madonna recruit that never lived up to his billing. He even brought out the worst in his teammates as well. Mike Adams was immediately better after Lovell left campus. Somehow, I don't think that he qualifies as my Piñata though.
I probably won't win too many friends for my piñatas, but...
Besides the entire secondary for the last two years, probably Cedric Benson. He was handed the starting job his freshman year, despite Selvin Young performing better through the first few games (up until Selvin broke his leg). I considered him a slightly better Ron Dayne - a mediocre player whose career numbers benefited from 4 years as a starting running back.
And while I am bashing sacred cows - James Brown. Athletic wunderkind who was just as likely to make a highlight real play, as he would try to force a pass into triple coverage. I don't think that he every understood the concept of "taking a sack" or "throwing the ball away."
When James left, giving the reins to Applewhite (via an injury to R. Walton), my level of anxiety during a game decreased 50%. I wasn't on the edge of my seat wondering if/how the QB was going to screw up this drive by trying to do too much on every play.
Andre Jones
Dion Dowell
I was so excited because he oozed athleticism...only athleticism without basketball skill gets you nowhere. My friends called him the caged beast...you'd rattle his cage, send him on the court, and he'd run around like a deranged animal for 3 minute bursts, doing absolutely nothing.
Now he's developed a three-point shot on UH, and they all think he's amazing. Here's a hint: he's not.
3 big white guys playing b-ball + coverage
boddicker, klotz and buckman - all of them needed to grow some nads and play their height/position.
also quan but not quan. i hated that he was returning punts and kicks, whose bright idea was that! how did we go from vasher, ramonce, selvin and ross to freaking quan.
lastly our coverage teams both punt and kick.
Chrissy Simms
I hated that f***er, still do. Sorry if I'm ignoring the rules but I only have this one that I absolutely hated to see on the field/court. We play (not saying we win) for one more nat. champ in the last decade if he doesn't start against Co. in the Big XII champ and he might be the most pampered titty baby I've ever seen in college/pro sports, save Philip Rivers. And I'm obviously a Major Applewhite fan and that kid flat out got hosed - he wasn't perfect, but he had guts and brains. If you see Chrissy Simms, kick him in the nads for me and send me an invoice for $50...additional $$ if you render him sterile.

Simms
And additional $$ if you can give him gonorrhea and get him to rot in hell.
Dos Pinatas
Basketball: Brandy Perryman. The guy never met an awkward, ill-timed three point shot he didn't like. I was present the night he set a school mark for 3-point futility (something on the order of 1 for 14).
Football: I never miss an opportunity to slam Greg Davis, though I realize I'm not alone in that endeavor. On a related note, I think we just ran another bubble screen for minus 2 yards...

It has to be Boddicker
In the same way that Conner A. has the "missing-in-action" syndrome on occasion, so did Brian Boddicker. It's why I eventually began calling him big-eared Brian Boddicker, who can't do this/who misses that/who can't rebound/ who can't blah, blah, blah ...
