Longhorn Volleyball Fans..

Does anyone have (or know anybody who does) any recorded footage of the team (via ESPN, Versus, etc) from this season (or even just sportscenter highlights)?  If not, does anyone know how I might go about getting some through one of these organizations?  Any source will work for me, even if it is just coming from the actual DVR.  If anyone could help me out I would be eternally grateful (and buy you a 12-pack). Thanks!

Texas: Thanks.

Having kids changes everything. There's a weird, almost-mutation that takes place when your world begins to revolve around the well-being of little people that are rich in their own little lives and yet, remind you of the simplicity you once knew before stuff got in the way. Just watching them will sub-consciously realign priorities for you. This is when parents quit being "cool" and pour out a big bucket of cheese to rehash the past or talk about what they're thankful for. The kids roll their eyes, anxious to get it over with, until they too pop out some shorties of their own, and on goes the cycle. So to those rolling your eyes: suck it - you'll get yours.

In this spirit of cheesy-ness, I cannot help but be thankful for sports. Specifically the blessings I had growing up, being ingrained with sports as a way of life in our home. The significance of sports in general is rather intricate and of great magnitude in a culture of perpetual bad news. But to my point, sports give us an understanding of loyalty, hard work, confidence, teamwork, etc. at a young age that stays with us as adults. Whether live or on the couch, a good game can leave a lasting impression in your mind for a lifetime and bring families together, many of which seem to happen during the holidays.

As Texas continues the drive in a remarkable football season, I am reminded of a few of my favorite memories as a Longhorn:

1996 Big XII Championship - I remember sitting in the living room, wondering if this is even possible, when James Brown whips out the roll left on 4th down to Derek Lewis. Priest Holmes drives it in and the whole fam goes nuts.

2001 Holiday Bowl vs. Washington - The controversy with the whole Simms vs Major debacle boiling up to a record performance by one of the most inspiring players in football history. Majors pulls off 473 yds in a huge 47-43 comeback. I remember the conversations with the old man about the "Cardiac Kids" and all the nail-biters they've put us through.

2005 Rose Bowl vs. Michigan - Crossing my fingers, squinting my eyes... oh, Dusty Mangum. Games that end with everyone yelling, "It's good!" have a different effect.

2006 National Championship - All kinds of screaming and going nuts. You've seen it. My kids were too young to remember that one (not anymore - hint, hint).

1969 Game of the Century, Texas vs. Arkansas - I wasn't even conceived yet, but the story in my dad's recollection is a good example of what I'm talking about. Jumping off his brother's couch and hitting his head on the ceiling.

I am thankful to have grown up in a house full of orange bleeding Longhorns and I am thankful to now be living it on the other end with my kids. Thank you to this Texas team for an already memorable season. Our family continues our weekly rituals with the kiddos frantically putting their mojo on in the mornings, the little man grabbing the big wooden Bevo from his wall and placing it directly under the projector screen, yelling and hugging at every touchdown - oftentimes startling little sister.

Then there's the possibility of my wife's family ties to Alabama coinciding with the Horns in a match-up we've been describing in our 8 years of marriage as, "How cool would that be?". Memories being made each week surrounding that whole mess.

So again, to this year's team and to the university as a whole, thank you for the memories had and those to come. Regardless of the outcome this season, I am thankful for the experiences I've had with my family thus far. This is the stuff that stays with you forever. And if you really want to make some memories, let's go out there and beat the crap out of some Aggies, take the Big XII in Dallas and drop some confetti in Pasadena!

Do it for the kids. Hook 'em Horns!

Is aTm aware that Thanksgiving is two days away?

I was browsing i am the 12th man and was hard pressed to find any mention of a game this Thursday...It seems aTm is happy to review the Baylor game over and over and over.  Is it possible the Aggies are looking past the Horns to their upcoming bowl game in Houston?  Also curious if they'll be taking a bus or taxi to the Texas Bowl? Hook'em Horns...it's 11:47 and OU still sucks!

Do not wish VY to be a Texan

Expect Merrill Hodge to call in sick tomorrow.

For those who watched MNF, there were so many moments that made Longhorn fans smile.  You were reminded why the CBS affiliate in Austin used to choose to air Titans games rather than Texans games when given the choice.  Who knows if Vince will ever be in a Super Bowl, but we do know that every time he plays the Texans IN HOUSTON, that might as well be his Super Bowl.  The icing on the cake tonight was to see the other Longhorns perform well and seemingly elevate their games and feed off of Vince.  (How did UT send a FULLBACK to the NFL again?)  ESPN's closing shot was VY hugging Studdard (a Texan) at midfield.

I'm happy to root for the Texans 14 games per season.  Tonight after the game I was curious how the SB Nation blogs for the Titans (musiccitymiracles.com) and the Texans (battleredblog.com) were reacting to the outcome.  It amazed me how many members on the Texans blog spoke negatively of VY and when comparing the two blogs, MCM mirrored BON in a way, in that their equivalent of Peter reached out to the Texans blog earlier this week, offering to answer any questions they may have about all things Titans this season.  I feel sorry for any BON members who are diehard Texans fans, because the SB Nation blog available to you (BRB) is a pretty poor option.  BRB mirrors more of an Aggie approach.  The thread which began as an olive branch of sorts was capped off with this Texans fan's statement:

Do you find...

the symmetry between what the Texans can do to the Titans’ season and what Steve McNair’s girlfriend did to his nap frighteningly similar?

Yay, sports.

Notice it received 7 recs and has yet to be moderated.  In fact, the site's moderator endorses the statement.

Be thankful for what we have here at BON.  And that VY is not a Texan.

There's plenty more.  Here's the whole thread:

A Quick Look at Pitt

Bumped. Thanks, KH.  --PB--

Pitt's current team (picked to finish 9th in the Big East) is certainly not the squad most of us last saw in last year's Elite 8.  Starters such as Levance Fields, Dejuan Blair, and Sam Young are all gone, taking with them sixty-something percent of last year's scoring.  Factor in Jermain Dixon's absence due to a foot injury and Gilbert Brown's suspension, and Pitt is missing eighty-something percent of last year's offensive production.

What they do have is a good head coach in Jamie Dixon, who is known for fielding physical, defensive-minded teams designed to compete in the Big East.  Dixon coached the USA under-19 team to a gold medal in the off-season, where Pitt guard Ashton Gibbs (So - 16.7 ppg / 1.3 rpg) played regularly and looks to have developed into a nice option at the point.  He shoots well, especially from behind the arc, and seems to be doing a better job taking care of the ball.

Brad Wanamaker (Jr, 12 ppg / 1.3 rpg), a 6-4 guard, is also back.  He too can hit the three (44% in BIg East play last yr), and plays good defense.  5-11 Travon Woodall (7.7 ppg / 3.7 rpg) is a redshirt freshman who is quick, can penetrate, score, and plays pretty physically for his size.  Don't know much about Chase Adams (Sr, 2.7 ppg / 1.7 rpg), other than that he is a 5-10 transfer who averaged 2.7 steals/gm last season.  Lamarr Patterson (Fr, 4.3 ppg / 1.7 rpg) is a 6-5 wing with good length, ball control and vision.

Donte Taylor (Fr, 8 ppg / 7 rpg) is a McDonald's All American expected to make an impact early.  He's a 6-9 power forward, is a good post-up player, has some range and can run the floor.  Nasir Robinson (So, 10.3 ppg / 6 rpg) is versatile at 6-5, works hard on the boards and can get to the basket.  JJ Richardson (Fr) is a 6-7 high energy forward who has a nice touch and will look for blocks and rebounds when on the floor.

Gary McGhee (Jr, 6.7 ppg / 6.3 rpg) is the only player listed as a center.  6-10/250.  Pretty big, strong dude who is slow and has little range.  He has improved a lot the past couple years; he used to be good only for a couple minutes and some quick fouls.  Not sure how he'll match up against Pittman, but he won't score much unless he has the ball right under the basket.

As previously stated, Pitt will play some tough defense, will challenge the Longhorns for rebounds, but in the long run they probably do not have the talent, experience, or depth to pull off the upset.  Pitt is also subpar from the free throw line (58%).  Multiple Texas turnovers and some high percentage 3-point shooting by Pitt could keep the game close for a while, but Texas will likely pull away at some point.  It will be a good litmus test for both teams to see where their young players are (If I were a betting man, which I am,  I would say Texas' are farther along than Pitt's).

Thoughts After My Last Game at DKR (as a student)

During the last minutes of the Kansas game, my friend and I snuck down to the railing, and congratulated my fellow seniors walking the field afterward. As I left, I turned to look at the field. I had watched so many incredible things happen there over the past four years. It was really hard to leave.

Mystery Recruit?

We know Darius White and Jackson Jeffcoat were in town and some "NON-PAY" boards had posted a "Mystery Recruit" coming in as well. I always look to the BON on any such ramblings for authenticity. So far all has been mum.

All I'm seeing on the BON right now is what we already know. The Aggies are holding their swords preparing to aggravate and assault the cheerleaders in fear of the eminent invasion at Kyle Field. The only thing coming out of it's sheath so far have been wannabe yell leaders posting the traditional nonsense. The game has not sold out from Aggie fans. Could it be that another in state Burnt Orange deluge falls on an opposing venue? I can hear the chants now Slocum, Slocum, Slocum, Slocum, Slocum.

A reprieve is called for. Give me some recruting juice. The most noted guess on the mystery recruit has been in the direction of Mike Davis a current LSU commit and stud receiver. All kind of arguments arise about another receiver, but the most evident denotes the available scholarship vacated by Ross Apo. Darius White and Cobbs were in the mix when that went down, so it;s not like the staff is taking a positional scholly away to make a Davis thing happen.
That could also make the Cobbs positional decision easier if Darius comes as well as Davis. Cobbs would then seemingly go to defense.

This post from ESPN shows his performance in the state playoffs this weekend. Guess what? He was matched up against Adrian White.

Mike Davis, WR (Dallas/Skyline)
Stars: four | Scouts grade: 82
ESPNU 150 rank (position rank): 55 (10)
LSU-bound wideout Mike Davis had 263 yards receiving -- scoring on plays of 74, 71 and 57 yards -- for Skyline (Dallas) in its 41-36 victory over DeSoto (Texas), according to the Dallas Morning News.
