Big 12 Expansion is Back!

Florida State and Clemson are coming to the Big 12 in 2013. Absolutely confirmed? Not yet. Chances are better than good, however. With W. Virginia's addition to the league, it was only a matter of time that the BIg 12 sought to increase its eastern membership. It's happening, and the SEC will get the payback it so richly deserves. Full on Big 12 recruiting will soon be happening all over Florida.

Miles Onyegbule...why not TE?

In one of my previous post, I was asking you fellas to give me your opinions on a few players for the upcoming 2012 football season. As I hoped, most of you gave some really good points and thoughts for the highly anticipated (7 months!?!?) upcoming season. As I was reading through them, GoHornsGo really got me intrigued by one of his thoughts. He was suggesting that Miles Onyegbule move to TE. For those of you that aren't aware, Miles is a 6'4" 220 pound 19 year old. He is possibly the best blocking WR on the roster and from what it sounds like, he actually LIKES to block. With so much presumptive talent at the wide receiver position, why not take him, beef him up to about to about 240 pounds, and pray for the next Jermicheal Finley? With no TEs in this recruiting class, and no TEs on the 40 acres (or at least none that have me fired up), my question is....why not? Hook em

Early Predictions for Fall Depth Chart (Defense)

And now it's time to prematurely project the two-deep for Manny's Mighty Men...Diaz's Devils...The Burnt Orange Beasts... (Please come up with a better name than those).

Follow the Bouncing Ball

So the rumors just get stranger and stranger. Seems the latest fad in hand-to-eye coordination drills has come to Stair Ball...which is exactly what you would guess: kicking or throwing a lightweight, air-filled ball up a flight of stairs. What will the gods of sports development come up with next...chair-staring? I can see how that would improve concentration and focus. Call me a skeptic, but I have yet to hear a solid case defending the employment of Stair Ball. Maybe some of you could oblige?
More after the jump...

ALL my Austin people...

i now have iHeart radio, i was wondering what channel do the longhorns have shows? what channel and what time does Mack come on? What Austin radio station talks Texas football? Im living in Houston, so talk radio is great, but college wise its too much of a mixed bag. I hear waaaaaaaaayyyyy to many aggies calling in about whatever it is that excites aggies. From what Ive heard from my cousin that lived in Austin for 20 years, there is definitely networks and shows that I can listen to from Austin that will fulfill my Longhorn need. Mack Brown is my hero, a true CEO that knows who and how it works. There were some hilarious rumors about Mack leaving this past year, and frankly they (at the time) scared the hell out of me. Will Muschamp is who I wanted to be our next head coach and look what he did at Florida (i know its a unique situation, i love Boom). HELP A BROTHA OUT!!!!

Listening to Mack talked to Craig Way....i really think Mack could be the next governor of Texas, what a smooth cat. His word about Torshiro made me want to a few jumping jacks..."Torshiro is a lot like Brian (Orakpo) was coming out of high school, except quicker..." WOW!!!!!!!

What to do with a few guys...?

Where do you guys see the following guys fitting in with NEXT seasons team...if at all...? I see these 6 players as names that did not have the biggest impact on last years team but could seriously contribute in 2012.

Reggie Wilson?

Joe Bergeron?

Demarco Cobbs?

DJ Monroe?

Miles Onyegbule? (the guy is 6'4" 220)

Mykkele Thompson?

I see Reggie as a guy that could play inside in passing situations but I really haven't been overly impressed with him off the edge.

Joe Bergeron has the potential to be the goal line back of Mack's dreams. He should help us inside the 20s, as long as we don't give him 29 FREAKING CARRIES in a game again. Which Harsinwhite won't.

Demarco Cobbs has always been a player Ive been excited about. I think he is much like Emmanuel Acho athletically, lets just hope he can diagnose plays like ManAcho.

DJ Monroe...isnt it funny how a couple years ago we were all upset with DJ not getting the ball enough. Now we have a few "DJ Monroe's" on campus and touches could come at a premium. I see him taking a few jet sweeps and such but he better learn how to catch the damn ball.

Miles Onyegbule...as I said early, he's huge! We need that big guy down around the goal since we are inept at TE currently. With that size, Harsin should be able to create 1 on 1's in the red area. I feel we really need this to help out whoever is going to be our QB next season.

Mykkele Thompson...with all the talent at DBU, can this talented db find a spot to actually play? We have so much young talent at his position, does he get a real look next year in the nickel?

You thoughts? Hook Em

Y'all Can Still Call Me GoBR

As you may have noticed over the last couple of days, I've starting using my real name on here, with GoBR in parantheses at the end just so people don't get too confused. I'll probably have that removed in the near future.

I was planning on providing some explanation when I made the change, but I got caught up in Signing Day and the aftermath, so I haven't had a chance until now.

It wasn't an easy decision to make, as the handle GhostofBigRoy has become a pretty big part of my identity as I've grown as a writer here on the site.

There were a couple of factors that pushed me over the top in this decision.

As I've spent more time recently going out and covering events (the Army game, the International Bowl, high school games, 7on7 in the summer), it's become increasingly annoying to basically have to introduce myself multiple times. As I try to gain credibility in those situations (and to open up more of those opportunities), posting semi-anonymously on a blog doesn't exactly help either.

Even in conversations with friends, I've had several people who had read my writing here at BON, but didn't make the connection between GoBR and Wescott Eberts. Can't say I really cared for that too much -- I want people to make that connection without doing research or requiring an explanation from me.

And I'm not sure that this is quite the time or the place for an announcement, but there are some exciting things brewing that I'm going to be a part of that made this decision substantially easier.

The other major part of the equation is that the whole impetus behind why I began using GhostofBigRoy on here has faded over the years. Limas Sweed graduated and then flamed out in the NFL. Dan Buckner, um, did stupid things to get himself kicked out of Texas and never seemed particularly worthy of the #4 when he was here. Darius White was a bust and left the program after trashing it to the biggest recruit in the country. While he was busy poisoning Mike Davis, that is.

And it was probably that decision from White that represented the final straw. I had thought that White was the second coming of Roy Williams (despite the fact that they weren't particularly similar physically) and kind of put myself out there with an open letter to him a fair number of people just didn't understand anyway, much to my dismay.

As I told it to my friend last week (what up Heather, if I shout you out maybe I can convince you to log on here), Darius White killed the Ghost. Dead. Shot through the heart. I'm not sure that it can even exist any more, even if Cayleb Jones will give his best shot to honor the number.

And then there's the namesake, Roy Williams, whose NFL career has mostly been an embarrassment. Keep making excuses for dropped passes, buddy. Sheesh.

Anyway, as I attempt to seek more legitimacy as a (sort of) journalist, not using my real name here came to seem like a hindrance without any real advantage, especially post-Darius White being the worst teammate ever.

So there's the (overdue) explanation, but before I post this, I want to thank everyone in this community for making all the effort worthwhile and to PB for giving me this opportunity and bringing me aboard at a time when I had no idea that doing this here would become such an important (and perhaps even defining) part of my life.

And, finally, cheers to the future. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

To Shirt or Not to Shirt? (Defense)

Manny Diaz. Bo Davis. Duane Akina. Oscar Giles. These are the winners from the 2012 Longhorns defensive recruiting haul. A nearly perfect class should stock the coaches' cupboard for years to come with play-makers and draft picks. Let's take a look at who the early contributors might be for next season.

Defense

DT Malcolm Brown - Like Jonathan Gray on offense, Brown is the can't miss defensive talent in this class. He may or may not end up starting next year, but he most assuredly will see the field and make his presence felt. Pairing Brown,

To Shirt or Not to Shirt? (Offense)

The 2012 Texas Longhorn recruiting class is in, and the dust has settled. Let's take a quick look at who may have an immediate impact on the 2012 season.

Offense:

RB Jonathan Gray - The headliner of all headliners should not only see the field, but immediately move into Fozzy Whitaker's role in the WildHorn. Some think he may bring more than that to the table, however, as a freshman...
