What True Freshmen Will Crack the Fall Two-Deep?
Check out my list below, and give your thoughts...
QB Connor Brewer--shows enough over the summer to pass Case?
QB Jalen Overstreet--with Swoopes coming, could he be the experimental WildHorn QB?
RB Jonathan Gray--leapfrogs Brown or Bergeron?
RB Daje Johnson--pass-catching ability might push DJ Monroe for time
WR/RB Kendall Sanders--see above, but with a different skill set
WR Cayleb Jones--will the Shipley/Davis/Goodwin/Hales/Harris combination be enough to shirt him?
OT Kennedy Estelle--OL depth a potential concern
OT Camrhon Hughes--see above
OG Curtis Riser--will be at least 3rd or 4th best guard upon arrival
DT Malcolm Brown--takes advantage of Calvin Howell's departure?
DE/OLB Torshiro Davis--will Cedric Reed or Reggie Wilson really keep him off the field?
DE Hassan Ridgeway--see above
MLB Dalton Santos--would it take that much to jump Aaron Benson?
CB Duke Thomas--he's turned heads, but can he pass White or Turner?
LB Peter Jinkens--LB depth not our strong suit...could push him onto field
PK Nick Jordan--kickers looked slightly better in spring game, but Nick should have every chance to start
It's doubtful all these guys will crack the two-deep. Many may even shirt. But these were the ones I saw having the best chance. Any others I missed?
Beam Me Up Scotty! I'm Headed to the Mothership
Back just before NSD, I announced that I was going to start using my real name on this site. While it was a change that I'd been contemplating for some time, a major part of the impetus behind that decision was something that I was only able to tease at back then.
I know that there were some concerns that I would move my work behind a paywall some time, especially with the Recruitocosm guys heading over the Inside Texas some months ago (and killing it over there, as well, I should add).
Without further delay, then, I'm proud to announce that I'm joining national recruiting editor Bud Elliott over at SBNation.com, where I'm going to be covering recruiting in the state of Texas and around the Big 12, while still continuing my normal contributions here at BON. If you haven't been following what Bud has been doing over the last few months since SBNRecruiting launched, now is a fantastic time to start.

Kevin Thomas coming back?
Is Kevin Thomas coming back to play next year? Is he going to be eligible or what? I haven't heard of how he did at community college or if he even played. I think he would add a lot of depth to our team next year and help out a lot. He seems similar to Devonta pollard, a long lengthy lefty that can shoot from anywhere. If we could get Kevin Thomas or Devonta Pollard that would be good for the team next year.
Class of 2014 QB
This kid is from a very small school, but has some real talent. He has been a two year starter and has 2 more years left. He has good size and should grow more since he is only 15 now. Texas Tech and Oklah St have been looking at him. Will be neat to see where he ends up going. Sometimes great players come out of smaller high schools

2nd Half Gamethread: UK vs KU
Didn't see one up, so I'll throw one up in the fanposts for those who want to discuss the national championship game. The scumbag Calipari's team is admittedly well-coached and fully loaded, and they dominated the first half against Kansas. We'll see if the Jayhawks have one more second half rally in them, but I'm not holding my breath. Anthony Davis is dominating on the boards and on defense and Kansas' star, Thomas Robinson, can't get much going.
41-27, Wildcats. For those Calipari haters, take solace in the fact that even if they win this game, chances are he'll leave in a couple of years and we'll find out some creative recruiting practices that leads to this season being wiped off the books for him. Again.
Why Rick is NOT John
The truth about Rick Barnes is multifaceted. Before we investigate anything regarding the comparisons, we have to examine the future disparity. There are some here who have questioned the basketball relevance of our own Coach Barnes. Soon we will see the truth. There is in an era of spring games, endless recruiting seasons (with their accompanying violations) a willingness to overlook facts, statistics, and skills for an ESPN fed diet of soundbites and 40 yard dash times. On the basketball side you have the whole AAU debacle which needs no elaboration.
John Mackovick was the coach of the Longhorns football team, and despite those of you who would argue to the contrary he was not unsuccessful. He reestablished our offensive recruiting prowess, and brought us some memorable wins. He actually won 3 conference championships. Check Mack Brown's record on that regard. Still no one would say that the Mackovick era was great. WHY? Consistency. Rick Barnes is consistently good. Those of you who would deny this point have failed in a moment of logical crisis. You say, "But Texas should win championships." I ask you, "Why?" Mack Brown doesn't regularly. Coach Barnes is a solid and righteous coach with a sense of consistency, virtue, and destiny. Mackovick was flighty. He soared to the skies but then crashed into the slime of quicksand which led to losses to the Fighting Bears of Baylor University and the Rice University Owls football team (even though the band did not lose).
Why, how, and when? Essentially, the Spring Game is today. We will watch it, but in watching be grateful that we do not need such a spectacle to ensure success. It is a celebration of football power. However it is also a celebration of sports power. We may not win everything, but we are a consistently strong sports presenting university and state with millions of fans both in Texas and around the world. To sum it all up.....Rick is not John.
Cameron Ridley to Sign
https://twitter.com/#!/DaveTelep/status/184709746752880640
Cameron Ridley said he will sign with the University of Texas and be a Longhorn. He made that clear.
This is obviously huge news, especially with the class we are bringing in and I trust Dave Telep to be reasonably connected as one of the preeminent recruiting writers and lead for ESPN. This should make us a strong 2-deep at every position next year assuming J'Covan stays, and even if he doesn't, should take a lot of the scoring burden off of the guards and in particular McClellan. Having 3 guys at 6'10+ coming in next year should definitely help solve a lot of the issues we had matching up with bigger teams and should create mismatches for us, because as the old saying goes, you can't teach tall. Definitely a reason to be hyped for next season where we in theory should be vastly improved over a team that already had made the Tourney.
And it's goodbye to Frank Martin?
So it appears Frank Martin, long a thorn in the side of Longhorn fans, shall no longer torture us. Even more important is the situation K-State is left in. It appears the administration of the Wildcats alienated him to the point where there was minimal effort to keep him from USC and their roster may be in flux (also apparently big-time recruit Robert Upshaw never signed his LOI so that would be a huge loss) . He had an immaculate record in Manhattan (especially against us) and had a winning record in the Tourney so it's safe to assume their next coach will not be as successful as he. While I am sad to see Martin and his fiery temper go I am glad the road to a Big 12 title will be a little bit easier in the future hopefully.
Texas Rugby going to College Rugby Championship
via www.utrugby.com
Dear BONizens,
I have been reading this blog for five years, since my senior year in college. Since my freshman year I have played for the University of Texas rugby team. Every game I play in I revel in the honor of putting on the burnt orange and playing for my university. After the jump I I would like to let know where UT Rugby currently sits in the rugby world and how you can help.
