How far do the Longhorns need to make it in March for you to be satisfied?

I'd like to get y'all's vote at SB Nation Dallas-Ft. Worth, if you don't mind.

Mack Brown’s first choice for offensive coordinator, I am told by two sources, was Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, and the Texas head coach all but considered it a done deal that the former Notre Dame head coach would join his staff in Austin. However, Weis’ high school senior son had bonded with Longhorn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and had planned to learn under him at Texas until Muschamp bolted to Florida and the entire Weis family followed to Gainesville."

AAS columnist Kirk Bohls revealing that Mack Brown may have targeted current Florida OC Charlie Weis for the same position at Texas.

Longhorns Shoot Up the Polls to #3

Both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls slot our Horns at #3. Sky's the limit for these men. Beat aggie!

Feb. 2 - not just signing day. Also, Team USA vs. The World

Jaxon Shipley is a late entry onto the team. Per Bevo Beat: Wide receiver Jaxson Shipley has become a late addition to a USA team that will take on a team of international players in the "Team USA Vs. The World" all-star football game that will be played Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Westlake High School. Brownwood’s Shipley will be one of three Longhorns commitment in their 2011 recruiting class who will play in the game. He will join running back Joe Bergeron of Mesquite and defensive back Josh Turner of Oklahoma City. Another Texas pledge, offensive lineman Taylor Doyle of Lake Travis, was scheduled to play in the game but has withdrawn. I wonder if either of the USA Team or The World Team has any OL we should be scouting.

Harrison Smith: Where is he now?

Everyone remembers Smith as the walk on who wowed us with his 12 point performance in a loss @ OSU two years ago. He transferred to Stephen F. Austin, then transferred again to Texas Southern University, where the school is tied for 1st place in its division and making a run for a trip to the NCAA tournament.

Titans will try to trade Vince Young

"The Tennessee Titans intend to try and trade quarterback Vince Young rather than release him, according to league sources. Young is due a $4.25 million roster bonus 10 days after the start of the league year, whenever there's a new collective bargaining agreement. It originally had been thought Young was due the bonus March 10."

Bruce Chambers Out, Tim Brewster Back In?

IF (BIG IF) Jesus is right, then this would be another slam dunk replacement...Chambers is rumored to be taking a job at DISD, and Brewster (our old TEs coach) who was just fired from his heading coaching job at Minnesota (and didn't get either of the heading coaching jobs at North Texas or Texas St) may be willing to come home. If I'm not mistaken he coached all three of our TE's in the NFL (Bo Scaife of the Titans, David Thomas of the Saints, and Jermichael Finley of the Packers).

Any insight? Am I embarrassingly late on this?

Homophobia still impacts WBB

ESPN The Magazine has a well-balanced and well-researched look at the impact of homophobia on the lives of coaches and players in the womens basketball game today. Though still present across all sports - mens and womens - it seems to be most deeply rooted in both college and professional WBB. The article makes for an interesting read, in part because of the striking parallel between Mack Brown's "family friendly" atmosphere in the Texas football program and the subtle way that the same concept appears to be used in Iowa State WBB recruiting. There are two situations that hit fairly close to home. One was the sad story of Emily Niemann, who was one of the main reasons Baylor won the national championship game in 2005. Her sudden - and at the time unexplained - departure from the school at the end of that season may well have cost Baylor a chance at a repeat. The most notorious case for Horns fans who have been following WBB at Texas for many years involved one of the greatest players ever to come from the Lone Star State - Sheryl Swoopes. It has long been the view of Texas fans that Texas Tech used negative recruiting about the "lesbian atmosphere" at Texas to lure her away to play in Lubbock - where she helped Tech win a national championship. Ironically Swoopes came out after many very successful years playing in the WNBA.
