Texas Longhorns spring football: Mack Brown press conference open thread

Mack Brown was exultant after the Alamo Bowl. Not so much on NSD - USA TODAY Sports

Happy spring practice, y'all.

The Texas Longhorns will hold the first of 15 spring practices on Thursday, but not before head coach Mack Brown meets with the press for his first public comments since National Signing Day.

The presser is at 2:30 pm CT and is available via live stream at MB-TF and on the Longhorn Network.

When Brown met with the media to talk about the 2013 signing class, he was rather curt for most of his interview, answering several questions by either repeating the question or providing a one-word answer.

So how does Brown look and sound after putting some distance between himself and the disappointment that heavily characterized a signing class that lost some major star power in the five decommitments?

Is there any new injury information on players like Trey Hopkins and Demarco Cobbs, both of whom were hurt late in the season and missed the Alamo Bowl. Will Hopkins participate in spring practice at all? Did Cobbs actually tear his ACL?

Position changes for the spring were already announced on Signing Day when Brown revealed that Caleb Bluiett has made the move back to defensive end after spending last year at tight end and that Hassan Ridgeway is moving inside a bit from defensive end to defensive tackle, as well as John Harris moving to flex tight end, so don't look for any big news there.

What other players does Brown point to as standouts from workouts? Obviously, he hasn't been able to watch, but he gets progress reports on who is doing well and who needs to step it up from Bennie Wylie and the other members of the strength and conditioning program at Texas.

Will there be open practices in advance of the spring game? There were last spring, though practices during the fall were closed last year.

The spring showcase was moved from Easter Sunday to the Saturday before and will be the first spring game held at night in recent memory, providing fans an opportunity to spend the aftenroon tailgating and could lead to a bigger, louder crowd on March 30th.

What does Brown have to say about where Quandre Diggs will play this year? About the development of David Ash, who is entering his first offseason as the clear and unquestioned starter.

This will be the first press conference devoted solely to the state of the football program since before the Alamo Bowl, so there should be some interesting stuff from Brown today.
