Tevin Jackson to miss remainder of spring with shoulder injury

The Longhorns will be without one of the contestants for a starting linebacker spot for the rest of the spring.

The Texas Longhorns will be without junior linebacker Tevin Jackson for the rest of spring practice after the school announced on Monday evening that Jackson suffered a dislocated shoulder in practice last week.

Jackson, a Garland product who finished with 30 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks last season after earning significant playing time late in the season, underwent successful surgery on Monday, but is not expected to return until pre-season camp in the fall, meaning that he will miss summer work as well.

And as well as Jackson did play late in the 2012 season when he ascended to the starting strongside linebacker position, he was still a bit raw at times and drew some fire from defensive coordinator Manny Diaz in open practices for some missed run fits.

Due to an issue with his transcripts, Jackson wasn't able to enroll with other members of the 2010 class, so he had to spend a year back home in Garland, which set back his development on the football field. This injury will set him back once again and could keep him from making the leap in 2013 that he would have been capable of making with the extra reps during the spring and the summer.
