When Labatt Blue Light asked to sponsor a post about a pair of Longhorns who stand out as magnificently as the Blue Light Refreshment Duo, we didn't have to think very long about who would make for appropriate honorees: Jordan Shipley and Colt McCoy.

Like the Blue Light Refreshment Duo, they're inseparable, mesmerizing, and-of course-roommates. And like their successes on the football field, among Longhorns fans their names will be forever intertwined... and revered.

It's hard to imagine where the Texas offense would have been this season without McCoy and Shipley, and in fact for much of the season McCoy-to-Shipley was the entire offense for Texas. An otherwise forgettable offensive evening against Colorado was highlighted by the 11 passes McCoy completed to Shipley, totaling 147 yards and including a beautiful touchdown featuring a double-move shake by Shipley that is one of the best you'll ever see. It was McCoy-to-Shipley that broke open the game versus Texas A&M, as it was those two who converted the pass play that got Texas into field goal range with less than a minute remaining in the Big 12 Championship Game.

And is there any doubt at all that had fate not cruelly separated the two in the BCS Championship Game, that one or both of them would have been hoisting the Rose Bowl MVP trophy above their heads amidst a sea of confetti? Alabama struggled enough defending Gilbert-to-Shipley; there's no telling how much damage the pair would have inflicted if Colt McCoy would have been in the game.

When it was all said and done, Colt McCoy graduated the winningest quarterback in NCAA history and the most productive quarterback in the history of Texas Longhorns football. For his part, a strong case can be made that Jordan Shipley departs the best receiver ever to don the burnt orange. As football players, they were excellent individually, but they were brilliant as a pair.

As far as standout duos, Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley are as good as it gets.
