One of the nation’s top 2019 prospects continues to see his recruitment gain momentum with South Garland shooting guard Tyrese Maxey picking up an offer from Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday evening.

A four-star prospect from the Dallas-area, Maxey is already up to double-digit offers with Texas joining programs such as Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, SMU and Oregon in the mix.
Maxey visited Waco last month and though Bill Self is yet to offer, the rising sophomore also visited Kansas in January. Residing just a few shorts hours from Austin, expect the Texas staff to try and get Maxey on campus for a visit as some point in the relatively near future now that there’s an offer on the table.
Texas now has offers out to eight 2019 targets and similar to the majority of those already holding invitations from the Longhorns, Smart and his staff will need to prioritize Maxey early and often to remain a player in his recruitment.
As a sophomore, Maxey stuffed the entire stat sheet, averaging 21.9 points on 52 percent shooting, along with 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.8 steals.
Maxey is ranked as the nation’s No. 17 player by Scout, No. 26 player by Rivals and No. 63 player by 247Sports.
