After committing to Texas a little more than a week ago, all DeMarco Cobbs had to do was finally make it down to Austin to speak with Mack Brown and confirm his intentions to sign with the Longhorns. While that sounds pretty simple, given his history of being unable to make it down to Central Texas, it was hardly a given that Cobbs would come through this time.

Fortunately for Texas fans excited about seeing the playmaker in burnt orange, Cobbs did make it into town. After leaving Tulsa late Friday night after his final regular season game, Cobbs and a friend stayed in Dallas overnight and left for Austin. Following the Texas victory over UCF, Cobbs sat down with Brown, telling him that he does not plan to keep in contact with any teams. Barring any unexpected developments, then, Cobbs will officially become a Longhorn in February.

Texas has NBA-level players at four positions (freshmen Avery Bradley at shooting guard, freshman Jordan Hamilton on the wing, seniors Damion James and Dexter Pittman up front), and a dynamic freshman point guard named J'Covan Brown who seems to impress everybody who watches a Texas practice or pickup game, including myself. Add Justin Mason, Gary Johnson, Varez Ward, Dogus Balbay and Jai Lucas (Florida transfer who is eligible in December) to the mix, and Barnes will have a hell of a time trying to find enough minutes to keep everybody happy. While it's disappointing that he's not completely ready to play, if he's not completely healthy, there's no reason for him to play. Earl Thomas fits quite nicely into the nickel back position and Nolan Brewster needs the reps. Just get all the way healthy, A-Will.

Just my opinion of a REAL top 25, complete without South Carolina, Wisconsin and Clemson. I was just sick of seeing all the crummy preseason top 25's with Va Tech in the top 10 (lol), USC at #4, etc. So below I am putting out there a real (maybe biased as well) top 25 that is how college football should look right now: 1) Florida 2) Texas 3) Bama 4) Cinci 5) Boise State 6) TCU 7) Iowa 8) Oregon 9) Georgia Tech 10) Penn State 11) Pitt 12) Houston 13) USC 14) LSU 15) Utah 16) Miami 17) Notre Dame 18) Ohio State 19) Cal 20) Oklahoma 21) Central Mich 22) Oklahoma State 23) Arizona 24) BYU 25) WVU Crazy? Yes. But this is prolly what it will look like at the end of the season for each team. At least IMO

Gazelles finally fall

Texas faced it's toughest test of the season last night, and despite another stellar performance from Destinee Hooker they couldn't get the job done, falling in five sets to ISU in Ames. It was close (12-15 in the 5th set) but no cigar for the no-longer-perfect Gazelles. The loss to the 8th ranked Cyclones on the road shouldn't knock Texas from the #2 ranking, but probably puts paid to any hopes of the overall #1 seed in the post-season, as PSU has no more challenges left on their schedule. Texas will now likely end up with the #2 seed and be sent to Minneapolis for the UM regionals.

Still all to play for at this point, but a perfect season sure would have been a nice way for this remarkable senior class to finish their careers.
