Texas vs. Georgia 2007?...probably not but still

as noted at Dawg Sports, Texas and Georgia both have an open date on September 1st of next season. This matchup, albeit unlikely, could be perfect for our horribly weak OOC schedule next year.

I don't know what we could do in forms of lobbying the program. Perhaps all we can do is pray for this matchup, as it would be a much better opening game than North Texas, Louisiana Lafayette, or New Mexico State (the Sunbelt triad).

I'd have more hope for it if it weren't the first game of the season. Mack likes to work out the kinks against the Sun Belt's finest.

No, but this might work...

On the 15th, UT plays UCF and Georgia plays Western Carolina. Reschedule the UCF game for the 1st. Georgia reschedules Western Carolina for the 1st, and UGA and Texas play on the 15th.

I don't think this will happen, but it's a lot better than another Sun Belt team

Not that I could see

I looked for both, and the only mention of 2007 scheduling for either team was UGA and Alabama for W. Carolina, and Texas for UCF. Also, neither team has a traditional Week 1 rivalry or conference game, so the 1st is, as far as I know, an open date for all teams. Correct me if I'm wrong, but mid-major teams' schedules are typically set later than those for BCS schools.

UGA in New Orleans

What a great set-up. And I don't have a problem with it being the first game of the year. If you lose, you want to lose early. And in New Orleans would be ideal... about 500 miles from each school. Not to get politcal, but it would also help the "rebuilding" in New Orleans.

Can't Tom Benson (Saints owner and UT alum) help set it up?
