It's True: OU Sucks Beer Is Here

I had been hearing rumblings about a beer released this week by Austin's Independence Brewing Company called "OU Sucks Beer."

Funny internet prank or real beer?

Despite what I'd heard, I dismissed the beer as an internet hoax of sorts - a nice little internet bit propogated by a site very much like this one.

But no. That's not the case. I was at Central Market today picking up some chicken breasts and, voila, there it was - OU SUCKS BEER! Yes, it was pricey ($16.99 for a 12 pack), but really, did I have any choice but to buy a case? Of course not.

I bought the beer, and loved every last drop of it. It reminded me of Redhook Brewery's Blackhook Porter - dark, rich, very malty - a great, lasting finish. And you really can go get your own OU Sucks beer at Central Market here in Austin.

Have you ever had Redhook's Blackhook Porter?

Reminded me of that. Very dark, rich, malty flavor.

homesick expat

I've been reading this blog for months and never felt compelled to comment till now. I'm a transplanted Austinite/Texas Ex in Los Angeles and when I hear y'all talking about Central Market and other places around town I get the the homesick pretty bad. I wish I could've been there last January. (just for perspective -- before your time -- I was a student in the late '70s, when we went to #1 after beating OU, then eventually blew it against Notre Dame in the Cotton bowl. After the OU game, we took the streets in an impromptu parade, shouting, "We're number one! We're number one!") I've been back and forth a couple of times, most recently returning to LA in 2000. Long story, sorry, all I'm saying is I miss the town, especially Central Market, the Hole in the Wall (still there?) and Barton Springs. PB, you should thank your lucky stars you're back there.

P.S. check this out - I'm also an alumnus of USC.
