Two Cents: One Defining Play

As the season winds down, it's time to look back at the season. I want to know your thoughts on the one defining play of the season. This is not, mind you, necessarily the best play of the season, but instead one that serves as a microcosm.

One could be negative and choose Colt's injury or the Kansas State TD on their second straight trick play or the final Aggie TD off that same little option play, but let's keep this positive. What moment defines this season best?

The Cotton Bowl

When we were in the tunnel jumping up and down and doing a chant im not familiar with, with the ou boys walking by looking like they had already lost. That put a positive spin on the season for me.

Sweed fumbling on the 2 yard line.

Texas got close, but in the end they fumbled away their opportunities.

Colt's Pick Six @ Tech or Ross' FF @ Nebraska

Colt could have crumbled at that point but rose above it and led the comeback. I think that game was what really sold me on Colt as a leader.

Pure and simple, the forced fumble by Ross is the only reason we won the Nebraska game. Had Nunn held onto the ball... first down, game over.

If either one of those games had gone the other way, the season would have been completely different. We definitely would not have been in the talk of National Championship defense.

The effect those games would have had on the team and the rest of the season (had they been losses) is impossible to know. My guess is that it would have woken this team up and the losses to K-State and AtM would not have happened.

Colt's injury against K-State

If that doesn't happen and Colt stays on his record pace we're a one loss team in the Big 12 championship stating our case for the BCS Championship.

I thought that, too

But I don't think that defines our season as a whole. Colt was playing out of his mind most of the year. I would say the one thing that defines the season would be a defensive play that went horribly wrong. Maybe the 1st play from scrimmage for Baylor that went 67 for a touchdown. That just accentuated the fact that the secondary was an easy target for the opposition this year.

If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

Defining Play

Pitman's fumble near the goal in the first quarter against Ohio State. Several significant things here. First our RB's were eating up 10 or 15 yards every play and we had an inexperienced QB. Inside the 10. You keep doing what is working right? Wrong! Either in an insane obsession to be balanced or to do the unexpected, we pass. It is complete but fumbled. Had we scored here, we would have had the lead and the momentum and perhaps the game and the whole season is different. We had four main problems this year: (1) untimely turn-overs, (2) inexplicable play-calling at times, (3) inability to score in the red zone, and (4) lack of pass defense. This one play epitomizes 3 of them.

That play gained 6 yards

It was a good play call, the fumble was just Pitman trying to go for too much.

A good play call?

Admittedly, it was a "good call" because it gained 6 yards, but I still maintain when your running game is going well, you have an inexperienced QB early in a big game, and you are inside your opponent's 10, it is not the time to put the ball in the air. The fact that it worked (until the end of the play) doesn't change that.

Good play call

And if Pittman hangs onto the ball and scores or we score on the next play, no one would be questioning whether that was a good play call or not.

Bottom line, I say the play call was fine, it was the fumble that sucked - and that could have happened just as easily to our talented RBs who developed serious fumbilitis as the season rolled along.

Overall, I would have to say that was a very defining moment to the season... So close, and yet so far. Heck, we even challenged the ruling on the field.

In honor of Colt

I was just on Youtube and saw a vid of the Late hit after the interception. I dont wish ill on anyone but that A&M DLineman that hit Colt needs to get flattened the next time Texas and the Aggies play. I know i'll probably catch a ton of crap for this

...but that hit, EVEN FOR A QUARTERBACK, was not impressive at all. I think McCoy is an outstanding and very capable quarterback but c'mon man, that is nothing to get excited about.

You can't be serious

As lalonghorn said, he was a freshman QB taking out a D Lineman. And the dude left his feet! It wasn't like he just got sidetracked out of the play. He was put on his back while running toward Colt. And Colt didn't move! How is that not impressive?
