What's Next?

It's been one hell of an awful week for the burnt orange faithful. Let's recap how awful this week's been:

Friday: Texas drops its regular season finale to its in-state rival. At home. On senior day. Against a team that barely beat Army. Sweet.

Saturday: Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State to sneak into the Big 12 championship. With the win, Texas fans have to contemplate having defeated both of the Big 12 title game participants, but sitting on the outside looking in. Two games, two losses. Kansas State. Texas A&M. Barf.

Sunday: A brief moment of bittersweet reprise, as Vince Young scorches an opponent for 24 fourth quarter points. But he's playing for Tennessee these days, not Texas.

Monday: Defensive coordinator Gene Chizik is hired away from Texas to be the new head coach at Iowa State. Longhorn fans are left to wonder whether his departure a) had any effect on the team prior to the A&M game and b) may yet have some impact on the 2007 recruits.

Tuesday: 54b guides Longhorn fans through the 20 worst losses in Texas history.

Wednesday: Reports surface that Jevan Snead intends to transfer from Texas, leaving Texas in an awkward situation in the short term.

Thursday: John Dawson tells us about Steve Spurrier whispering sweet nothings in John Brantley's ear.

Friday: I'm not sure I'm going to get out of bed tomorrow.

Agreed
I wish I was dead.

Too dramatic?

I have a commitment to the truth.

Damn
Now that IS funny.  Not if it happened, just considering what's already went down.

Talk to me Goose, errr, Mack!

Transfer
Someone should remind Jevan that transfers, as a general rule, do not work out.

Actually, on Friday...
Big Perm, I mean Big Worm, threatens RT for outstanding pot IOUs. But don't worry, Smokey (played by Terrel Brown) and Craig (played by Aaron Harris) hatch a plan to borrow Tyrell Gatewood's 9mm and save the day. Hilarity ensues.

It's hard out here bein' a Longhorn pimp. Word.

Yeah, should have added:
Thursday: Bowl officials confirm Texas will be going to the Gator or Alamo Bowl - probably the latter.

Yee-haw!

Not all that bad
Saturday was ok for me. I won the pick 'em game for the second week this year. Came up just shy of winning the overall title. Do I get another T-Shirt? My wife is a closet Horns fan and would love a BON T-shirt.

Not all that bad, indeed
Black shoes, Congrats on the pick 'em win for the week.  Thought I had a chance going into the last 3 games of the night.  Instead, I came up just short on 2 of 3 games (sounds awfully damn familiar).

Regardless, no matter how many bad things have occurred over the last week or so, at least I'm still a Longhorn.  Can you imagine all that stuff happening AND being a sooner or an aggie or a red raider or...?  You get the idea.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........
"After OU dismantles Nebraska in the Big 12 Champ"

We will see young padawon.  You thought Memorial Stadium was loud, Arrowhead is louder, hehe.  I'm not saying the Huskers will win, but dismantled?

Man I hope you're wrong....

Arrowhead's loud
when the Chiefs are playing.  Don't know about the Big XII though.

Still, after being put in this position, I only have one thing left to say about Saturday:
Go Huskers!

by boomhauer25 on Nov 30, 2006 1:42 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Nebraska fans bought at least 60,000 tickets
out of 79,451.  The ticket sales were tracked by zip codes.

Remeber, Husker fans are freaks.  A lot of people had them bought back in MAY!

Onlt thing that is left is: Go Huskers!

Miserably hoping for the Alamo Bowl
Sure the Alamo Bowl seems about 2 steps above the Poinsettia Bowl. Good news is, we will be playing a Big 10 team. The ultimate goal is a 10-win season (what's our streak on that accomplishment, 5 straight years?). We need to keep that going.

I live in Colorado, but this year I will be traveling home (to San Antonio) for xmas/new year's for the first time in 7 years. I've been out of the area for most games the Longhorns play. I'm hoping to catch this game, as it may be the only real consolation for me this year. Seeing another live bowl game to finish the year in style.

I did manage to fly solo (on a C-17) from Hawaii to March AFB in California to catch the 2005 Rose Bowl versus Michigan. That was well worth the price of admission, and my favorite game of all time (until the 2006 Rose Bowl).

I was also able to drive to Lincoln this year to catch the Longhorns pull out a stunner. That was also my 5-year old son's first Longhorns game, so I was a proud burnt orange father.

I will say I was hoping to play Nebraska in the Big XII title game for 2 reasons. 1) to win the Big XII and go to the Fiesta Bowl and 2) to replay one of the most exciting contests of the year against an equally historically powerhouse team.

I will also have to say, the Nebraska fans truely are fantastic. Whether they were watching the opening kickoff returned inside their own 10, watching us win, watching them comeback, watching them 3 yards away from sealing a win, watching us force and recover an impossible fumble, or watching us drive down inside the 10 to kick the winning fieldgoal they were always extremely respectful and gracious. This was especially important as (as mentioned before) I had my 5 year old son with me.

For this reason, I will always have a small cheer for the Huskers. (I was also able to catch the '97 or w/e Big Xii title game in the Alamodome versus the Ags, which the Big Red managed to dominate). And this game gives me yet another reason to root against the Spooners.
