Breaking News: Rumsfeld Out, A&M President In

Leave the politics out of this discussion, folks. We'll delete it.

Just one week after I published this piece on Texas A&M president Robert Gates, the Associated Press is reporting that he will resign his position at Texas A&M to take over as Secretary of Defense of the United States of America. Donald Rumsfeld will step down as the head of the department, but remain at the Pentagon in an advisory capacity.

This isn't completely sports-related, though I'd urge you to read the article I wrote last week for some perspective on Gates and what he was bringing to Texas A&M. What will happen to his quest to change the culture in Aggieland?

Update [2006-11-8 14:3:39 by HornsFan]: The other Andrew notes that A&M still has a long, long way to go. Wow.

Knew it
I knew he wouldn't last long at a&m, but 1 week?  Granted these are also different circumstances by which he is leaving.  So much for change at a&m...

I think he has been there a while.....
I saw him speak at an IT Conference a few years back and it showed he was the e"aTm"e pres.

If you are incled to go to the link below, read the line below Texas A&M University.  It explains it all.

I could have said that better
I meant 1 week since the publication was introduced.  Not since he started.  And this may have been his mission since the beginning, but I wouldn't know.  I couldn't care less about a&m.

I wonder
If he'll take all the minorities he's brought to A&M with him.

Just in time too
He wont have to deal with the latest "shit-meets-fan" scenario:

This just in... VY good at football
and Some Aggies are Racists

President Bush said he had been interviewing
candidates for a while, so I'm wondering if Gates knew that he might be leaving A&M so soon after starting.  Interesting.

Good luck Mr. Gates.

Wow, indeed
What idiot in this day and age, accepted to a supposedly "major" university, could think that's acceptable?

An Aggie idiot (pardon the redundancy).  Or three.

I hope
that the next President of Texas A&M continues to improve the image of TAMU. The great state of Texas deserves two great state institutions.
