How To Pick A Fight With Texas
If you thought the billboard wars were over, think again...
The Mayor T Kyle King is Messin' With Texas over at Dawg Sports.
We gleefully promise a zeropeat.com billboard campaign for Athens sometime soon.
(As always, great stuff Kyle.)

Mea culpa
What I wrote was that Georgia "has a pretty good argument for second place." If I phrased that poorly, I regret it. What I meant was, given the undeniable fact that Texas is No. 1, I believe Georgia has as good an argument as any of the other contenders for No. 2. The top spot is beyond dispute, but I'll take my chances arguing with any of the other contenders for the runner-up position.
I'm proud of my alma mater, but, like a fellow Bulldog blogger, I'm a realist. If my humor and my humility did not come across, MMHorns, I apologize to you publicly, as well as to any other Longhorns fans who were similarly offended. As Peter can tell you, I publicly stated before the Rose Bowl that I was rooting for Texas and that I believed Texas would win.
My joke was intended to be at the expense not of Texas---an institution I already respected, and one I respect all the more for the quality of fans who write and read Burnt Orange Nation---but of the "Onepeat" crowd, whose arguments I find lacking and whose focus on another team rather than on their own I find sad.
I believe opposition to the "Onepeat" folks does nothing but show respect for Texas, as it affirms the quality of the opponent the Longhorns defeated in Pasadena and confirms that---after several years in which there were arguments about the championship, the outcome of the championship game, or which teams ought to have been in the championship game---Texas won an absolutely undisputed, and indisputable, national title.
I regret the misunderstanding and I thank you for taking the time to respond. As for your estimation of Georgia's athletic program, I believe you will find that, although Texas fairly well co-opted the national titles in the major sports, the Bulldogs did pretty well in what are "non-revenue," yet still competitive and legitimate, athletic endeavors.

well jeez
jk - Kyle - I lived in SEC country for 7 years and in ATL for 2.5. Let's just say that not every SEC fan is as gratious or as open minded as you, so I have become a little abrasive.
The most similar U to Texas in the SEC is UGA; not necessarily sports wise, but all the other good stuff you want out of a school. So although LSU is most likely the best all around sports U in the SEC, you guys are not far behind and a much better school.

Much obliged
You're right about Texas and Georgia as universities. Whenever they come out with those "best buys in education" lists, Athens and Austin almost always come out as your top two options when it comes to getting a first-rate education at a (relatively) bargain-basement price.
Also, they both have great-looking girls, outstanding college towns, and perennial top 10 football teams. What more could a fellow want?
