Vince Young To Houston
The Houston Oilers took Vince Young.
As for the Houston Texans, I think I speak for 99% of Longhorn fans: f*ck 'em. They had a chance to convert many of us to Houston Texan fans, and chose not to. Meanwhile, ESPN reported that the first hats to sell out at the NFL draft were the Tennessee Titan hats. No surprise.
Only time will tell how well this works out for all the involved parties, but one thing is for sure: there are a LOT more Tennessee Titan fans this afternoon than there were this morning. And a lot fewer Houston Texan fans.
We'll have a full draft analysis in the next couple of days. For now, enjoy the thought of Vince Young and LenDale White punishing defenses together. And start planning your annual trip to Nashville; for those that have never been, it's a really fun city.

WOW
LW is scoring some big points. Gave VY major props during his interview with Suzy Kulber. This will be fun to watch.
Mock, yeah! Draft, yeah!
Right after the Texans made it official that they'd be taking Williams instead of Bush, half the pundits incredulously rebuked the choice as if they know better than NFL GM's and the other half feverishly rushed to change their tainted mock draft boards to save needless face.
I also have to wonder what effect (negative it seems) the press has on the actual draft...
Did all the talk about Leinart slipping cause the Jets to pass on him? The fact that the Titans took VY with Norm "I'm Matt's suragate father" Chow as the offensive coordinator still amazes me. I'm happy for VY and I think the Titans made the right choice, but how much was it effected by the press?
In a twisted sort of way, I hope Mario Williams turns out to be average and Matt Leinart goes on to have a very successful career. And to quote a line from Major League, "every time Vince plays against Houston, he shoves it up their f'ing asses."
As usual, the lesson here, we're all full of shit (including me) and we will have learned absolutely nothing from today's results. By tomorrow, everyone will begin their commentaries with, "yeah, I was thinking (insert team here) might do that."
Man, what the hell would we do without sports? Probably start second guessing ourselves. Nahhh...
Disclaimer
may have to tune in to Titans
Big Winners of Day One
Tennessee
Denver
I feel sorry for Houston and New Orleans, who now have to face the wrath of Vince. I'm sure he'll forgive NO for taking Bush, since they already had a QB. But don't you think VY will take special delight in trouncing the Texans every time he plays them for the next 10 or 15 years?
I also look forward to watching Tennessee playing Arizona in the years ahead, if VY and Leinart both stick with their current teams. Best way to settle the "who's the better QB" debate - on the field. I guess the same goes for Tennessee playing Denver, once Jake the Snake retires.
All the talking heads are chipping in with their grades for Day One, but so far the best I've read comes from John Clayton at ESPN.
"Give Floyd Reese some credit. He was in a tough situation. His coaches wanted Leinart. His owner wanted him to draft Young. It was a debate that carried into Saturday morning. Reese found a way to satisfy everyone. In Young he got a quarterback back whom he believes will be better than Leinart in two or three years. Young might not do much during his first season, so Reese gave the coaching staff White, a big, bruising running back who can help immediately."
He also points out the obvious - it was a BAD day for Trojan Fan.
"First, they lose to Texas in the Rose Bowl. Now, they lose to Florida State, Ohio State and NC State in the draft. While the Seminoles had four defensive players in the top 19, the Buckeyes had five first-rounders, and the Wolfpack had three, the Trojans saw a number of their players slip. Bush negotiated himself out of being the first pick. Leinart went No. 10 to Arizona."
"Had he turned pro after his junior season, Leinart might have been the first pick in the 2005 draft. Even now, most would considered him a higher-rated player than 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, the first pick in the 2005 draft. Financially, this is a disaster for Leinart. Smith received $20 million in guarantees. Leinart goes into a slot that last year paid $13.5 million -- total -- over the five-year contract."

maybe I'm just not enough of a fan...
Leinart knew the risks of not going in 2005, and $13.5 million is a heap of cash more than I will see in my lifetime, never mind the next 5 years. If he proves to be successful, he'll make it up on renegotiations or on free agency.
Same Here....
I only "root" for the Jets because my wife is a die hard Jets fan. I really don't care about the NFL.
In the end I want former SC players to do well but I don't live and die with them once they leave SC.
As A Cowboys Fan...
Clearly the Toxins are angling for the 1st pick next year, too. Go Vince!
