Nothing wrong with kicking a team when it's down
Pales in comparison with the shit we put up with during the Five Years That Will Not Be Named.

My two cents
Of course, the day I'm out of town on business, OU drops the bomb shell of all bomb shells.

Though it looks like it's all been said already and now we even have pics like the one above to say it without words, here is my two cents for what it's worth:

  1. How dumb does one have to be to take slush money and then file a tax return on it? Even SMU in thier cheating hey day didn't leave a paper trail that obvious.
  2. My guess is a ton of people at that car dealership just quit (or were fired) and went looking for a new job. That car dealer will be lucky if gets out of town alive, much less sells another car.
  3. OU's season outlook can now be considered precarious to say the least, but the last time Stoops got himself a transfer QB, he won a title in two years. Doubt that'll happen again but for those of you already counting Oct. 9 as a W, I wouldn't be so quick. This simply levels the playing field, it doesn't ice it for us.
  4. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm not taking a little bit of purient glee in hearing this news, but I think it hurts the Big XII overall and I really wanted Texas to get a shot at beating a Top 5 OU team to get a little payback for those five straight losses. OU got the satisfaction of beating highly ranked UT teams who had no excuse for losing. Last year was nice in all, but I sure didn't get any satisfaction or feeling of payback for the 65-13 or 63-14 debacles.
  5. This should serve as a sobering reminder that no matter how hard a coach tries to run a clean program, there are always going to be outside agents who can flat out destroy a program. Ultimately, accountability is still in the hands of the individual and those individuals just happen to be 18-year old impressionable players in uncharted waters. It's easy to call Bomar an idiot, but think back to when you were his age and what you might of done if someone waived 18,000 in your face. I'm sure getting caught never even crossed his mind. Maybe he can blame all those hits to the head he took last year.
  6. If anything, the spotlight on UT is going to be even brighter and the desire to find wrongdoing even stronger than ever. Thanks in large part to the scandals surrounding Bonds and Landis and on a college football front, USC/Bush tOSU/Clarret, the sporting climate seems to be one of, "if you win, then you must have cheated some how and the media is going to keep digging until they find something."
  7. Lasty, "hey Peterson, can you say 11-in-the-box?" Don't know where Bomar is hiding right now, probably the Dusty Devorcek Cantina, but if Peterson finds him, I'm guessing that he'll make that hit Robinson had on Bomar look like a love tap. No doubt, Peterson knows he'll be lucky to get through this season injury free carrying the load again like last year, much less challenge for an MNC.

Peterson
Is it too late for him to apply for early entry?

:-)

Do you really think Stoops is trying that hard?
It is probably my burnt orange tinted glasses, but scruples is not something I have associated with Stoops.

Compared to what?
Just look down the hall at the Men's Basketball program.  That's the main difference between the two athletic departments.  We've to Dodds, they've got Castiglione.  Dodd's has hired coaches that instill a family culture, and stress team, academics and ethics.  Look at Brown, Barnes, Conradt, Garrido, Elliot, Clark, and on down the roster....  Ramonce is the exception, not the rule, at UT.

Call it burnt-orange glasses if you want, but the programs speak for themselves.

The 18,000 dollar question still remains
why were they paying him?  He was already enrolled at OU, it's not like he was going to transfer.

A Couple More Thoughts
  1. Yes, I do think Stoops tries hard to run a clean program. He doesn't instill that family feel that Mack does, but he's a no non-sense kind of coach and he also has a track record of disciplining bad elements. I think he handled the Dusty Devorcek situation as good as any coach could have. He helped turn that kid's life around instead of just making him an example. I don't like Stoops, but I respect him.
  2. Just got an email from a friend who says Paul Thompson is the odds on favorite to take the QB helm. If you're Thompson, are you licking your chops because you always wanted to be QB or do you feel like the fat chick that got a last minute invite to prom? Think about it...the coaching staff has basically said in no uncertain words that you're not QB material, so if you have any hopes of making it to the pros, it's going to be as a WR. Now your coach says, I know what I told you, but we need you at QB. There's no question he's going to play QB as it's not like there will be another OU QB who can throw him the ball anyway, but I'm sure his road to the NFL just got a lot harder if it wasn't hard enough already and feels like Major Applewhite did when Mack would ask him to go clean up Simms' messes.
  3. I think the people who got the most joy over this news are probably the Aggies. They have a cake schedule the first 9 weeks of the season and then they get OU and Nebraska at home and finish at UT. It they can go 10-2, they just may save Fran his job afterall. And if they really come together and Texas' QBs end up floundering, they've got a shot at the Big XII South. Maybe not a realistic shot, but it looks a hell of a lot a better than it did yesterday. And if Herbsteet "the Omniscient" penciled the Aggies in as Big XII champs last year, he's probably tatooing it on Corso's ass this year.

OU radio
is reporting the same thing about Thompson.

Smart move...IMO.

Why risk turnovers when you have AP and a running QB?

I'm applying to Oxford and the Sorbonne. Harvard's my safety
