New Blog: Backing the Pack for NC State Fans!

And The Nominees Are...

I'm honored and pleased to be bringing you a portion of the official nominees for the First Annual College Football Blog Awards. Joel got the party started this morning, before handing off the first nomination announcement to Brian. Before reading on, please take a moment to see the first series of nominations.

Before I roll out the second set of nominations, allow me to note that the third series of nominations are forthcoming in one hour at Every Day Should Be Saturday.

Nominations after the jump...

Barbs is impressed with this year's nominees, too.

Star-divide

Editor's note: All links will pop to new windows. You know, to encourage you to check out all this good stuff without losing your place.

The Keith Jackson Circa 1995 Award

For: The blog with the most consistently expressive and excellent writing.

Criteria: Mechanical competency, yes, but the ability to turn a devastatingly funny phrase or write something compelling is probably more important. This isn't an award for copy editing; it's an award for kickin' prose.

Official Nominees

DawgSports

Every Day Should Be Saturday

MGoBlog

Ronald Bellamy's Underachieving All Stars

Sunday Morning Quarterback

The Tyrone Prothro and His Amazing Catch Award

For: The finest individual post of the college football year.

Criteria: Best post for whatever reason.

Note: Not surprisingly, many of our nominees for Best Writer are authors of the nominations for Best Posts.

Official Nominees

"Dear Diary: Chris Fowler," written by Sunday Morning Quarterback

"Eleven Swans," written by Brian Cook, MGoBlog

"Four Plays, Parts 1-4: The Bomb, The Reverse, The Play-Action, The Conclusion," written by Blue Gray Sky

"Requiem," written by Johnny, Ronald Bellamy's Underachieving All Stars

"YOUR SCHOOL'S PROMOTIONAL AD IS TEH SUX0RZ! GRAND CRU: APPALACHIAN IS HOT HOT HOT!" written by Orson Swindle, Every Day Should Be Saturday

The Jenn Sterger's Rack Award

For: The best photoshop or other gag of the year.

Criteria: Could be a photoshop, a Motivational Poster, an On Notice
Board, a fictional post, or something similar, as long as it elicited more than a mere smile.

Official Nominees

"Dear Diary: Chris Fowler," by Sunday Morning Quarterback

"Georgia over Georgia Tech Commemorative Posters," by Doug, Hey Jenny Slater

"Les Miles' Hat Monday," by Tiger Smack

"Coaches' Halloween costumes," by Yost, The M Zone

"I Hate Your Favorite Team," by  Fire Mark May

"Motivationals: The Final Chapter," by Orson Swindle, Every Day Should Be Saturday

"Waaaa, Waaaaa, I Have Cancer," by Tressel's World

Don't forget to check in at EDSBS around 2:00 EST for the next series of nominations.

Ok, I admit I was speed-reading...
... but I haven't found any instructions for voting on the nominees.  Will that information come in the final set of nominations?

Wow
So far I'm really impressed with the first two rounds of nominations.

I haven't seen anything on voting yet either. But if I'm not mistaken, only bloggers will get a vote. We'll probably use Brian's Blogpoll thingy to do the voting. Now that the final blogpoll came out he's probably frantically working on setting it up.

Voting
The nomination process was open to everyone, but voting will be restricted to bloggers only, for a host of reasons.  Mostly, it would be an administrative nightmare and too susceptible to fraud and what not.

This keeps it simple.

Commentary on the nominees is welcome and encouraged.

non College Football Bloggers? We're people too.

I agree
"I hate your favorite team" was my nomination for that catagory. That and SMQ's "Dear Diary" were the funniest posts of the year IMHO.

Dammit!
I'm very disappointed about the dropping of the smack talk award. I know it's for the best in more than one context, but still. It takes years to work up bile like that.

Fear
I think we feared violence.

Ha!
A slapfight outside the Woodley Park Starbucks, maybe, followed by recriminations and a double latte.

That's where the somewhat effete nature of Pac-10 football really comes to the fore.

Pffffffft
So now I have to hate on Who?CLA just for the pure enjoyment of hatin' on 'em?

I had the same reaction
when I first read this post. Unfortunately, I've pretty much turned BON into my second home and wouldn't know what to do with myself if I couldn't check this site once an hour. Oh, the humanity.
So take that.
